Abstract
Abstract
Schiff bases are in the field of medicinal and material chemistry for a long time. There are several advancements from time to time towards facile synthesis and potential applications. As medicines they have been applied as organic molecules as well as their metal complexes. The activities of metal complexes have been found to increase due to increase lipophilicity in comparison to the corresponding free ligand. Besides simple coordination compounds they have been applied as ionic liquid (IL)- supported and IL-tagged species with far enhanced efficiency. Among metal complexes recent advancement deals with photodynamic therapy to treat a number of tumors with fewer side effects. Schiff bases are efficient ligands and their complexes with almost all metal ions are reported. This mini-review article deals with complexes of Schiff bases with biologically compatible metal ions, Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Pd(II), Ag(I), Pt(II) and their potential uses to combat cancerous cells. Strong hopes are associated with photodynamic therapy and IL-tagged and IL-supported Schiff bases and their complexes.

Abstract
The effective application of cisplatin in the clinic as an antitumor treatment has stimulated widespread interest in inorganic metal drugs. In particular, complexes containing the transition metals platinum and gold have attracted considerable attention due to their antitumor effects. The Pt(II) and Au(III) Schiff-base complexes are potential antitumor agents because of their remarkable biological activities and good stability, lipophilicity, and electroluminescent properties. These complexes act via various antitumor mechanisms that are unlike those of the classic platinum drugs, providing a feasible solution for improving the serious side effects caused by metal chemotherapy. In this review, promising antitumor agents based on Pt(II) and Au(III) complexes containing Schiff-base ligands, and their biological targets, including G-quadruplex DNA and thioredoxin reductase, are comprehensively summarized.

Abstract
Eighteen of the iron(III) and nickel(II) complexes with tetradentate thiosemicarbazidato ligands were synthesized and described, by analytical and spectroscopic methods. Two complexes as an example to the iron and nickel centered ones were crystallographically analyzed to confirm the molecular structures. Cytotoxic effects of the complexes on K562 chronic myeloid leukemia cells were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. For comparison, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was used as a noncancerous cell line. While four of the iron(III) complexes exhibited the antileukemic effect with 50% inhibition of cell growth (IC50 ) values in the 3.4 to 6.9 μg/mL range on K562 cell line, the nickel(II) complexes showed no significant effect on both cell lines. The complexes Fe4, Fe5, and Fe6, bearing 4-methoxy substituent exhibited relatively high antiproliferative activity on both cell lines. Complex Fe3 with 3-methoxy and S-allyl groups exhibited a selectivity between K562 and HUVEC cells by IC50 values of 6.9 and >10 μg/mL, respectively. Lipophilicity, a key parameter for bioavailability and oral administration, was found in the range of -0.3 and +1.3 that desired for drug active ingredients. The results were discussed in the context of a structure-activity relationship.

Abstract
Square planar mononuclear platinum(ii) complexes were synthesized in the presence of neutral bidentate heterocyclic (5-quinoline 1,3,5-tri-substituted pyrazole scaffold) ligands and K2PtCl4 salt. The synthesized compounds were characterized by micro-elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, TGA, mass spectrometry and molar conductivity. Their biological activities were investigated by in vitro brine shrimp lethality bioassay, in vitro antimicrobial study against five different pathogens, in vivo cellular level cytotoxicity against Schizosaccharomyces pombe cells, and in vitro anti-proliferation assay. The binding constant Ksv, Kb, Ka values of the complexes were determined by DNA interaction studies. The gel electrophoresis assay was carried out to examine the effect of the complexes on the DNA nuclease of pUC19 plasmid DNA. The docking energies of the ligands (L1-L5 ) and complexes (I-V) were observed in the range of -265.14 to -284.33 kJ mol-1. The synthesized Pt(ii) complexes (I-V) were screened against the MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma) and HCT-116 (human colon carcinoma) cancer cell lines.

Abstract
The whole mol-ecule of the title compound, C27H26N2O2, is generated by twofold rotational symmetry, with the central C atom of the pentyl chain located on the twofold rotation axis. The compound crystallizes as a bis-zwitterion, and there are two intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generating S(6) ring motifs. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming ribbons propagating along [001], and enclosing R 2 (2)(22) ring motifs.

Abstract
The main target of this paper is to get an interesting data for the preparation and characterizations of metal oxide (MO) nanoparticles using H2L Schiff base complexes as precursors through the thermal decomposition procedure. Five Schiff base complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) metal ions were synthesized from 2-[(2-hydroxy-naphthalen-1-ylmethylene)-amino]-benzoic acid new adduct (H2L). Theses complexes were characterized using infrared, electronic, mass and (1)H NMR spectroscopic techniques. The elemental analysis data was confirmed that the stoichiometry of (metal:H2L) is 1:1 molar ratio. The molar conductance indicates that all of complexes are non electrolytic. The general chemical formulas of these complexes is [M(L)(NH3)]·nH2O. All complexes are tetrahedral geometry. The thermal decomposition behavior of H2L hydrated and anhydrous complexes has been discussed using thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA) under nitrogen atmosphere. The crystalline phases of the reaction products were checked using X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
