Abstract
Inspired by the outstanding nature of flavonoid derivatives in the fields of chemistry and medicine, in this work we mainly focus on exploring the photo-induced properties of the novel Et2N-substituted flavonoid (ENF) fluorophore theoretically. Considering the potential photo-induced properties in different solvents and the chalcogen atomic electronegativity-associated photoexcitation, by time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) methods we primarily explore the intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions and photo-induced charge redistribution behaviors. Via comparing geometrical data and the infrared (IR) spectral shifts-associated hydroxy moiety of ENF, we confirm that the intramolecular hydrogen bond O-H···O should be enhanced with facilitating an excited-state intramolecular proton-transfer (ESIPT) reaction. Particularly, the charge reorganization around hydrogen bonding moieties further reveals the tendency of ESIPT behavior. Combined with the construction of the potential energy surface and the search for reaction transition states, we finally confirmed the solvent-polarity-regulated behaviors as well as the chalcogen elements' electronegativity-dependent ESIPT mechanisms for the ENF fluorophore. We sincerely wish our work could accelerate the further development and applications of flavonoid derivatives.

Abstract
Protein misfolding has been extensively studied in the context of neurodegenerative disorders and systemic amyloidoses. Due to misfolding and aggregation of proteins being highly heterogeneous and generating a variety of structures, a growing body of evidence illustrates numerous ways how the aggregates contribute to progression of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and prion disorders. Different misfolded species of the same protein, commonly referred to as strains, appear to play a significant role in shaping the disease clinical phenotype and clinical progression. The distinct toxicity profiles of various misfolded proteins underscore their importance. Current diagnostics struggle to differentiate among these strains early in the disease course. This review explores the potential of spectral fluorescence approaches to illuminate the complexities of protein misfolding pathology and discusses the applications of advanced spectral methods in the detection and characterization of protein misfolding disorders. By examining spectrally variable probes, current data analysis approaches, and important considerations for the use of these techniques, this review aims to provide an overview of the progress made in this field and highlights directions for future research.

Abstract
Fluorescent probes with excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) properties play a significant role in the research of life science and material science. Guo et al. designed 3-hydroxy-2-(6-Methoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-4H-chromen-4-one (MNC) as a control to achieve the dual-color fluorescence imaging of lipid droplets and endoplasmic reticulum (ER). They deemed that the ESIPT process would be turned off in ER with high water content [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2021, 143, 3169-3179]. However, contrary to the conventional ESIPT off case, the enol* state fluorescence intensity that should have been enhanced was severely quenched in water. Here, combined with ultrafast spectrum, steady-state fluorescence spectrum and potential energy surface, the mechanism of ESIPT process of MNC turned off in water is revised. Furthermore, the formation of aggregated states in water is responsible for the quenching of MNC fluorescence. This work is expected to provide broader ideas for the design of hydrophobic fluorescent probes.

Abstract
The compound in solvents with triple fluorescence feature of excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) has a broad prospect in fluorescent probes, dye sensors and molecular synthesis of photosensitive dyes. An ESIPT molecule hydroxy-bis-2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-oxadiazoles (compound 1a) emits two fluorescence peaks in dichloromethane (DCM) and three fluorescence peaks in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). [Dyes and Pigments 197 (2022) 109927]. Two longer peaks were attributed to enol and keto emission in both solvents and the shortest third peak in DMSO was just attributed simply. However, there is a significant difference in proton affinity between DCM and DMSO solvents which has influence on the position of emission peaks. Therefore, the correctness of this conclusion needs to be further verified. In this research, density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory method are used to explore ESIPT process. Optimized structures indicate ESIPT occurs through molecular bridge assisted by DMSO. The calculated fluorescence spectra demonstrate two peaks indeed originated from enol and keto in DCM, while interestingly three peaks are originated from enol, keto and intermediate in DMSO. Infrared spectrum, electrostatic potential and potential energy curves further prove existence of three structures. We reveal the mechanisms that compound 1a molecule occurs ESIPT in DCM solvent and undergoes an ESIPT through assisted by DMSO molecular bridge. Additionally, three fluorescence peaks in DMSO are reattributed. Our work is expected to provide an insight for understanding intra- and intermolecular interactions and synthesis of efficient organic lighting-emitting molecule.

Abstract
Nonradiative decay pathways associated with vibronically coupled S1 (ππ*)-S2 (nπ*) potential energy surfaces of 3- and 5-hydroxychromones are investigated by employing the linear vibronic coupling approach. The presence of a conical intersection close to the Franck-Condon point is identified based on the critical examination of computed energetics and structural parameters of stationary points. We show that very minimal displacements of relevant atoms of intramolecular proton transfer geometry are adequate to drive the molecule toward the conical intersection nuclear configuration. The evolving wavepacket on S1 (ππ*) bifurcates at the conical intersection: a part of the wavepacket moves to S2 (nπ*) within a few femtoseconds while the other decays to S1 minimum. Our findings indicate the possibility of forming the proton transfer tautomer product via S2 (nπ*), competing with the traditional pathway occurring on S1 (ππ*).
