Abstract
Dual sensing chemosensors for copper(II) and iron(III) ions are molecules or compounds designed to selectively detect and differentiate between these specific metal ions. Because metal ions like copper(II) and iron(III) are essential to so many industrial, biological, and environmental processes, their detection and measurement have become increasingly important. In this work, a novel dual-sensing chemosensor that combines high selectivity and sensitivity is presented. It is intended to detect copper(II) (Cu2+) and iron (III)(Fe3+) ions concurrently. The chemosensor combines two different recognition components into one platform and achieves dual-mode detection by combining optical and electrochemical sensing approaches. Using a dual sensing chemosensors for two cations can save money and time compared to preparing two separate chemosensors to sense each of those cations separately. We often use various techniques, including spectroscopy, fluorescence, and electrochemistry, to monitor and measure the changes induced by the interaction between the chemosensors and the metal ions. Discussions have been held on the excitation and emission wavelengths, media used in the spectroscopic measurements, binding constant with coordination binding mode, detection mechanism, and detection limit (LOD). This extensive review paper investigates colorimetric and fluorometric dual sensing analysis for Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions which includes more than sixty papers from the year of 2017 to 2023.

Abstract
Three novel acetalophanes 1a-c have been designed, synthesized and characterized. The receptors 1b-c, featuring bulky anthracene groups, displayed significant selectivity for Fe3+ ions, resulting in a turn-off fluorescence mode in a DMF-buffer solution. Conversely, the non-steric probe 1a could serve as a versatile sensor for the simultaneous detection of Fe3+ and Cu2+ ions in MeOH-buffer solution. The sensing mechanism for the capability of 1a was demonstrated to be different, as evidenced by the addition of cyanide ions. The probes with Fe3+ exhibited a sensing mechanism that resulted in the deprotection of acetals to the corresponding starting materials, as confirmed by 1H NMR, IR spectra and TLC analysis. The attractive features of these practical and efficient sensors are selectivity, sensitivity (limit of detection = 0.15 µM by 1a, 0.16 µM by 1b and 0.14 µM by 1c), rapid response (less than 5 s). The on-site monitoring of various real samples, including well water, apricot, and green tea, proved to be successful for the quantitative and cost-effective detection of Fe3+. The method demonstrated good precision, even in the presence of other interfering materials.

Abstract
An easy prepared probe, BHMMP, was designed and synthesized, which displayed a significant fluorescence enhancement (over 38-fold) and obvious color change in the recognition of Al3+. The binding ratio of probe BHMMP to Al3+ was determined as 1:1, according to Job plot. The binding mechanism was fully clarified by the experiments, such as FT-IR spectrum, ESI-MS analysis, and 1H NMR titration. A DFT study further confirmed the binding mode of BHMMP to Al3+. The limit of detection (LOD) for Al3+ was determined as low as 0.70 µM, based on the fluorescence titration of BHMMP. Moreover, the results from real sample experiments, including real water samples, test papers, and cell images, well-demonstrated that BHMMP was capable of sensing Al3+ in environmental and biological systems.

Abstract
Dual-responsive chemosensors have garnered much research interests owing to the ability of recognizing two analytes simultaneously. Herein, the chemosensor BPIS composed of hemicyanine and 2, 2'-dipyridylamine (DPA) was facilely synthesized for sensitive and expeditious recognition of Cu2+ and HSO3- in 100% aqueous solution. By adding Cu2+, BPIS showed substantial spectral changes accompanied by a noticeable color change from pink to yellow under daylight. The absorbance and fluorescence intensity were linearly correlated to the Cu2+ concentration, enabling the quantitative recognition of Cu2+. The limit of detection (LOD) for Cu2+ was down to 4.02 × 10-9 M. The response time of BPIS towards Cu2+ was 10 s, imparting BPIS great potential in real-time detection of Cu2+. Meanwhile, BPIS manifested ratiometric fluorescence response by introducing HSO3- owing to the 1,4-addition between HSO3- and the unsaturated CC bond of BPIS. The color of the BPIS solution progressively faded from pink to colorless with increasing HSO3- concentration, and a LOD of 3.47 × 10-9 M was obtained. In addition, BPIS-coated test paper was found to be an efficient tool for fast, sensitive, portable detection of Cu2+ and HSO3- by naked eyes. More importantly, the precise detection of Cu2+ and HSO3- in real water and sugars were realized, respectively, by capitalizing on BPIS as the signal tool.

Abstract
The present work reports a highly efficient Ca doped Eu: Y2O3 i.e Ca0.05Eu0.01Y1.94O3 (CEY.) nanophosphor material synthesized through a facile combustion method, as a simple and selective turn-off fluorescence probe for the quantitative analysis of iron ions (Fe3+). The proposed sensor allows the quantification of iron in the range of 10 µM-90 µM with a limit of detection (LOD) ∼ 63.2 nM under the natural pH range. Moreover, CEY nanophosphor shows an excellent fluorescence phenomenon with a gradual increase in the Fe3+ ion concentration. It has been observed that the corresponding PL intensity gets completely quenched with 500 µM Fe3+ ion concentration. Furthermore, the applicability of the sensor as an efficient probe has been investigated with real water samples, iron tablets, and human blood serum (HBS). The selectivity of the probe has also been analyzed with various metal ions and biomolecules. Thus, in turn, the as-obtained sensing probe illustrates an excellent accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity, and offers potential application in clinical diagnosis, biological and real water sample studies, with the detection of Fe3+ ion. Furthermore, it does not require any acidic medium for a level-free, and non-enzymic detection of a real sample with almost not affecting the sample quality and henceforth provides more reliable results.

Abstract
A new thiophene hydrazide derivative TSB was synthesized and utilized as naked-eye colorimetric sensor for Cu2+ by the color changed from colorless to yellow as well as green fluorescent turn on sensor for Al3+ in DMSO/H2O (1/1, V/V) solution. The dual-functional chemosensor TSB for Cu2+/Al3+ sensing displayed excellent properties of special selectivity, superior sensitivity, outstanding anti-interference performance, instantaneous response, wide pH working range and good reversibility. The detection limits of TSB for Cu2+/Al3+ were determined as low as 46.5 nM and 32.7 nM, respectively. The 1:1 binding mode of TSB with Cu2+/Al3+ was proved by spectrometric titrations, Job's plots, FTIR, 1H NMR and HRMS analysis. Moreover, chemosensor TSB was successfully utilized for detection of Cu2+ and Al3+ in real environmental water and food samples with high reliability, demonstrating its practical applicability.

Abstract
A series of benzothiazole-based compounds were synthesized and characterized. Among them, probe Z showed significant dual-functional performance which was capable of sensing pH change and Cu2+. Probe Z displayed fluorescent turn-on under alkaline conditions due to deprotonation of the hydroxyl group along with the obviously color change from colorless to mint green. Interestingly, it further achieved in ratiometric detection of Cu2+ through absorbance or fluorescence signals in strong alkaline condition. The limit of detection was calculated correspondingly as 0.37 μM and 1.35 μM, respectively. Especially, the combination of the XNOR and INHIBIT logic gates could be used to confirm that one medium was in neutrality or alkalinity condition. Moreover, Z was successfully used in real water samples and test paper for fast identification of Cu2+, respectively.

Abstract
A novel "off-on" colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor N2,N6-bis(2-(rhodamine B amido)ethyl)pyridine-2,6-dicarboxamide (RhBEP) has been designed and synthesized, which can selectively detect the presence of Fe3+ with about 75-fold enhancement in fluorescence emission intensity at 585 nm over various environmentally relevant metal cations such as Hg2+, Cu2+, Cr3+, Li+, Na+, K+, Ag+, Zn2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Fe2+, Cd2+, Ni2+, Mn2+, Al3+, Bi3+ and Au3+ in PBS reaction media. The remarkable color change from UV-Vis titration experiments indicates that RhBEP can be used as a colorimetric chemosensor for Fe3+. The ultrasensitive detection limit for Fe3+ in the fluorescence measurement is down to 2.0 × 10-8 mol·L-1. The recognition mechanism of RhBEP to Fe3+ was analyzed by Job's plot and mass spectrometry analysis. In addition, the data from fluorescent cell imaging experiments confirmed that the chemosensor RhBEP has a promising application for the detection of Fe3+ in biological systems.

Abstract
A dual-function probe NAHH based on naphthalene was synthesized and characterized. Based on the combination effects derived from the inhabitation of photo-induced electron transfer (PET) and CN isomerization, probe NAHH achieved in the recognition of Zn2+ and Al3+ both through obvious fluorescence enhancement and color changes detected by naked eye, respectively. Probe NAHH showed high sensitivity with the limit of detection as low as 3.02 × 10-7 M for Zn2+ and 7.55 × 10-8 M for Al3+, indicated the capability of probe NAHH in trace detection for Zn2+ and Al3+. The binding ratio of NAHH with Zn2+ and Al3+ were all 1:1 determined by Job plot, and the corresponding association constant was calculated as 8.48 × 104 M-1 and 4.45 × 105 M-1, respectively. The mechanism was further confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR titration and ESI-MS analysis. Furthermore, probe NAHH was successfully applied in logic gate construction and the detection of Zn2+ and Al3+ in Songhua River and test stripe. Fluorescence imaging experiments confirmed that NAHH could be used to monitor Zn2+ in plant root.

Abstract
An easily prepared benzothiazole-based probe (BHM) was prepared and characterized by general spectra, including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HRMS, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Based on the synergistic mechanism of the inhabitation of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT), the BHM displayed high selectivity and sensitivity for Al3+ in DMF/H2O (v/v, 1/1) through an obvious blue-shift in the fluorescent spectrum and significant color change detected by the naked eye, respectively. The binding ratio of BHM with Al3+ was 1:1, as determined by the Job plot, and the binding details were investigated using FT-IR, 1H NMR titration, and ESI-MS analysis. Furthermore, the BHM was successfully applied in the detection of Al3+ in the Songhua River and on a test stripe. Fluorescence imaging experiments confirmed that the BHM could be used to monitor Al3+ in human stromal cells (HSC).
