Colorimetric recognition of hydrazine in aqueous solution by a bromophenol blue-tethered ion-pair-like ratiometric probe

A new carbazole based fluorescent probe with AIE characteristic for detecting and imaging hydrazine in living cells, mungbean sprouts, Arabidopsis thaliana, and practical samples

In this study, we report a new carbazole-malononitrile fluorescent probe CBC with an interesting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristic. Probe CBC could rapidly and selectively detect hydrazine (N2H4) in ～100% aqueous media, and also exhibit an exceedingly low detection limit of 6.3 nM for sensitively detecting N2H4. The sensing mechanism of CBC towards N2H4 has been well demonstrated through the spectra of 1H NMR, HRMS and FTIR. Interestingly, probe CBC was applied to visualize and detect gaseous and aqueous N2H4 with sensitive color changes. Importantly, probe CBC was applied to effectively detect N2H4 in practical samples such as soil, human serum, human urine, plants, foods and beverages, as well as sensitively sense and image N2H4 in biological systems including living mungbean sprouts, Arabidopsis thaliana, and HeLa cells.

Advances in Optical Probes for the Detection of Hydrazine in Environmental and Biological Systems

Hydrazine, as a crucial raw material in the fine chemical industry, plays an indispensable role in fuel, catalyst, pesticide and drug synthesis. Due to its good water solubility and high toxicity, hydrazine can cause irreparable damage to water and soil in the environment, and it can also be released by taking certain drugs, which brings potential risks to human health. Therefore, it is vital to develop a method that can specifically detect hydrazine in the environment and in vivo. As an effective analysis and detection tool, fluorescence probe has attracted extensive attention in recent years. In this review, we summarized and classified hydrazine fluorescence probes based on various reaction mechanisms, and discussed their structures and applications in the past ten years. At least, we briefly outline the challenges and prospects in this field.

A highly sensitive ratiometric fluorescent probe based on fluorescein coumarin for detecting hydrazine in actual water and biological samples

Hydrazine (N₂ H₄ ) is a highly toxic and harmful chemical reagent. Fluorescent probes are simple and efficient tools for sensitive monitoring of N₂ H₄ enrichment in the environment, humans, animals, and plants. In this work, a ratiometric fluorescent probe (FP-1) containing coumarin was used for hydrazine detection. The proposed FP-1 probe had a linear detection range of 0-250 μM and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.059 μM (1.89 ppb). A large red Stokes shift was observed in fluorescence and UV-vis absorption spectra due to the hydrolysis of ester bonds between FP-1 and hydrazine. The hydrazine detection mechanism of FP-1 was also investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Finally, FP-1 could sensitively and selectively monitor hydrazine in actual water samples and BEAS-2B cells. Therefore, it has great application potential in environmental monitoring and disease diagnosis.

A fluorescent probe for the detection of N2H4 in solution, steam, and the biological system

Improper use of N₂H₄ will cause serious harm to the environment. Inhalation or skin contact with N₂H₄ will also cause a variety of diseases for humans and animals. Herein, a fluorescent probe (HFOAc) for the detection of N₂H₄ in solution, steam and the biological environment has been designed and synthesized.
