Abstract
Morin (MRN), an intriguing bioflavonol, has received increasing interest for its antioxidant properties, as have its metal complexes (Mz+-MRN). Understanding their antioxidant behavior is critical to assess their pharmaceutical, nutraceutical potential, and therapeutic impact in the design of advanced antioxidant drugs. To this end, knowing the speciation of different H+-MRN and Mz+-MRN is pivotal to understand and compare their antioxidant ability. In this work, the protonation constant values of MRN under physiological ionic strength and temperature conditions (I = 0.15 mol L-1 and t = 37 °C), determined by UV-vis spectrophotometric titrations, are introduced. Thus, a reliable speciation model on H+-MRN species in aqueous solution is presented, which exhibits five stable forms depending on pH, supplemented by quantum-mechanical calculations useful to determine the proton affinities of each functional group and corresponding deprotonation order. Furthermore, potentiometry and UV-vis spectrophotometry have been exploited to determine the thermodynamic interaction parameters of MRN with different metal cations (Mg2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, Al3+). The antioxidant ability of H+-MRN and Mz+-MRN has been evaluated by the 2,2'-diphenyl-1-benzopyran-4-one (DPPH) method, and the Zn2+-MRN system has proven to afford the most potent antioxidant effect. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of Mz+-MRN species at all possible chelation sites and under explicit water solvation allowed for the fine characterization not only of the metal chelation modalities of MRN in explicit water, but also of the role played by the local water environment around the metal cations. Those microscopic patterns reveal to be informative on the different antioxidant capabilities recorded experimentally.

Abstract
Chinese Baijiu (Liquor) is a popular alcoholic beverage, and the ethanol content in Baijiu is closely related to its quality; therefore, it is of great significance to explore a facile, sensitive, and rapid method to detect ethanol content in Baijiu. Hydrophobic carbon quantum dots (H-CQDs) with bright red fluorescence (24.14 %) were fabricated by hydrothermal method using o-phenylenediamine, p-aminobenzoic acid, manganese chloride, and hydrochloric acid as reaction precursors. After the introduction of ultrapure water into the ethanol solution dissolved with H-CQDs, the aggregated H-CQDs resulted in significant changes in fluorescence intensity and absorbance. On this basis, a sensor for detecting ethanol by optical dual-mode and smartphone imaging was constructed. More importantly, the sensor can be used for detecting ethanol content in Chinese Baijiu with satisfactory results. This sensing platform has great potential for quality identification in Chinese Baijiu, broadening the application scope of CQDs in food safety detection.

JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2023; 445:130456. Abstract
Developing carbon quantum dots (CQDs) with the solvatochromic effect and exploring multifunctional applications remains challenging. Herein, robust solvatochromic carbon quantum dots (RS-CQDs) with emission shift up to ∼62 nm from yellow to red was fabricated by the hydrothermal method. The RS-CQDs was used to detect water and Sn4+ in the linear ranges and limits of detection of 2.0-97.6% and 0.14% and 6.24-53.18 μM and 66.3 nM, respectively, and was further applied to determine Sn4+ in practical water samples with satisfactory results. In addition, RS-CQDs exhibited bright red emission in oil media with a 9.7-fold increase in fluorescence relative to aqueous media, making them a wash-free probe for specifically staining lipids. Compared to the commercial lipid marker BODIPY 493/503, the RS-CQDs-based probe has significant advantages, such as longer emission, larger Stokes shift, and better photostability, ensuring that RS-CQDs-based marker can implement real-time and wash-free monitoring and imaging of lipids in living cells, liver tissues, zebrafish embryos, and zebrafish larvae. This study provides a novel research direction for the development of metal-doped CQDs by demonstrating RS-CQDs as the viability of fluorescence probes for water and Sn4+ detection and the efficiency of RS-CQDs as a fluorescent marker for lipid imaging.

Abstract
As a representative flavonoid, morin exhibits multi-biological activities, but its abuse endangers human health. Developing advanced technology for morin determination is urgently needed. In this study, a dual-responsive approach was reported for morin based on the complexing of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and polyethyleneimine (PEI). The CQDs were fabricated via an improved hydrothermal method employing tyrosine and malic acid. Binding with PEI induced an 8-fold emission enhancement and a slight red-shift to 445 nm of CQDs because of the complexing of PEI and CQDs. Further morin introduction led to the blue emission (445 nm) quenching of CQDs-PEI and a yellow emission (560 nm) generation, which contributed a ratiometric fluorescence approach for morin determination between 2.0 and 32 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 45 nM. Meanwhile, under sunlight the color of CQDs-PEI became yellow upon morin addition, which developed a colorimetric method for morin determination in a wide range between 2.0 and 100 μM (LOD = 69 nM). The developed dual-responsive method either displayed accurate results for morin in diluted human and bovine serum, being potential for actual sample analysis. Finally, a visual detection based on the smartphone was constructed and applied for the real-time determination of morin.

Abstract
In this research, a novel hydroxyl functionalized covalent organic framework (COF) with fluorescence properties was rationally designed based on the reaction between 2,5-dihydroxy-terephthalic-dihydrazide (DHTPz) and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxaldehyde (Bt) for Zn2+ detection. The prepared DHTPz-Bt exhibited strong fluorescence, while the apparent quenching of fluorescence was observed after the introduction of Zn2+. Meanwhile, DHTPz-Bt exhibited high sensitivity and promising selectivity during the detection of Zn2+. Additionally, the recognition process was revealed to be attributed to the coordination between the hydroxyl groups on the phenyls of DHTPz-Bt and Zn2+ ions, as verified by using Fourier-transform infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectra. This work demonstrates the great potential of fluorescent probes by rationally introducing metal ligands, which will lead to a suite of new COF materials for metal ion sensing in a practical manner.
