Abstract
A lanthanide complex based on europium (Eu) and chelidamic acid was synthesized (Eu-CHE) and characterized. The complex Eu-CHE exhibited intense luminescence at 615 nm under excitation at 300 nm and was further investigated for highly sensitive turn-off detection of l-kynurenine (l-kyn), a cancer biomarker. The probe detected l-kyn linearly from 6 nM to 0.2 μM with a limit of detection and limit of quantification of 1.37 and 4.57 nM, respectively. The probe was investigated for selectivity towards l-kyn among co-existing amino acids and further extended for detecting l-kyn from human serum and urine samples. A low-cost paper strip-based sensing platform was also developed for the visual detection of l-kyn.

Abstract
Nitroaromatic compounds are common explosives and toxic pollutants, the selective and sensitive detection of which is of great importance. Herein, a facile and sensitive fluorescent sensor L was constructed for the sensing of TNP based on the hexahomotrioxacalix[3]arene skeleton. The fluorescence emission of L was drastically quenched in the presence of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP), while other tested NACs, metal ions, and anions induced negligible changes. Under the optimized conditions, the spectroscopic studies revealed that L exhibited extremely sensitive and selective TNP recognition, with a detection limit of 9.17 × 10-7 M and a quenching constant of 2.44 × 104 M-1. The sensitivity of sensor L for TNP was attributed to the formation of a ground-state charge-transfer complex and an inner filter effect, which also contributed to the special selectivity of the sensor among the various nitroaromatic analogues. Compared with previous reports, L can serve as a highly efficient sensor for the sensing of TNP and can be employed over a wide pH range of 2 to 12. Sensor L was effectively used to quantify TNP in real water and soil samples. Additionally, fluorescent test strips were also developed for visual and rapid detection of TNP in both the solution and vapour phases.

Abstract
Water environment pollution is becoming an increasingly serious issue due to industrial pollutants with the rapid development of modern industry. Among many pollutants, the toxic and explosive nitroaromatics are used extensively in the chemical industry, resulting in environmental pollution of soil and groundwater. Therefore, the detection of nitroaromatics is of great significance to environmental monitoring, citizen life and homeland security. Lanthanide-organic complexes with controllable structural features and excellent optical performance have been rationally designed and successfully prepared and used as lanthanide-based sensors for the detection of nitroaromatics. This review will focus on crystalline luminescent lanthanide-organic sensing materials with different dimensional structures, including the 0D discrete structure, 1D and 2D coordination polymers and the 3D framework. Large numbers of studies have shown that several nitroaromatics could be detected by crystalline lanthanide-organic-complex-based sensors, for instance, nitrobenzene (NB), nitrophenol (4-NP or 2-NP), trinitrophenol (TNP) and so on. The various fluorescence detection mechanisms were summarized and sorted out in the review, which might help researchers or readers to comprehensively understand the mechanism of the fluorescence detection of nitroaromatics and provide a theoretical basis for the rational design of new crystalline lanthanide-organic complex-based sensors.

Abstract
Chromium (Cr) is an important material, but also one of the most toxic heavy metal pollutants, showing great threat to human health and ecological environment, thus, accurate and rapid detection of Cr3+ has far-reaching significance. In this work, based on the ligand of 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzoic acid (HPFBA) that does not contains oscillation effect group such as "CH, OH, and NH bond", three rare earth dinuclear cluster of Ln2(PFBA)6(phen)2(H2O)2 (Ln = Tb3+1-Tb, Eu3+1-Eu, Gd3+1-Gd, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were obtained. 1-Tb shows excellent stability and luminescence properties. In depth investigation reveals that 1-Tb shows quick detection towards Cr3+ in water through luminescence "turn-off", with extremely short response time of 1.0 min, very low limit of detection (LOD) of 5.2 ppb and no interference from other ions. The LOD value is much lower than the total content of chromium for water in China (15 ppm, GB9078-1996). In the actual environment such as tap water, lake water, human, and serum, 1-Tb shows excellent detection and recovery rate for Cr3+. More interestingly, a fiber based paper of test paper that based on 1-Tb and ordinary filter paper was fabricated, which can probe Cr3+ by visible color changes to the naked eye under UV light.

Abstract
The level of L-kynurenine (L-kyn) can reflect the health state of human body, and the determination of L-kyn can be used for the medical diagnosis of several cancers and neurological diseases. In this work, a series of air-, water-, and thermo-stable dinuclear lanthanide nanoclusters [Ln2(2,5-DFBA)6(phen)2] (Tb 1, Eu 2, Gd 3, 2,5-DFBA = 2,5-difluorobenzoic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) are obtained by a facial method. 1 and 2 show very high luminescence quantum yields (QYs) of 71.7% and 81.8%, respectively. Interestingly, investigation reveals that 1 is a quick, highly sensitive and selective sensor for L-kyn in real samples of urine and serum. Furthermore, transmission electron microscope (TEM) results reveal that nanocluster 1 is stable in solution and can be uniform distributed on the base, suggesting it can be deposited on various supports to fabricate sensing devices. Thus, 1 is fabricated into a sensitive test paper for the eye-readable detection of L-kyn in real samples of human urine and serum. The limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.3 μM, which is enough to rapidly determine L-kyn in human body liquor (usually 5 μM in healthy human body).
