Abstract
Epinephelidae fishes are important to reef ecosystems, as well as for commercial fishing and cultural heritage. Additionally, most of these species are at some risk of extinction, as Epinephelus marginatus and Hyporthodus nigritus. This study aimed to determine total mercury (THg) concentrations and burden on eight tissues of E. marginatus and H. nigritus. A Cold Vapor/Atomic Absorption Spectrometer was used for the THg determination. THg concentrations and burden varied significantly between tissues in both species. The highest concentrations were determined in the liver, and the greatest burden was in muscle. The gonad concentrations were higher than the toxicological threshold. General trends of increase in THg concentrations and burden along growth were observed. Mercury is a threat for both species evaluated, raising this concern for other Epinephelidae species.

Abstract
Total mercury (THg) was measured in muscle (fillet) and liver tissue of adult smallmouth bass Micropterus dolomieu collected at multiple sites in the Potomac and Susquehanna River drainages within the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Smallmouth bass in these drainages have experienced episodic mortality events, a high prevalence of skin lesions and reproductive endocrine disruption (intersex or testicular oocytes and plasma vitellogenin in males). A multi-level assessment of general and reproductive health including indicators at the organismal, organ, cellular and molecular levels was conducted on adult smallmouth bass during the spring (prespawn) season. Concentrations of THg were correlated with increased visible abnormalities, increased macrophage aggregates and tissue parasite burdens. In male bass positive correlations of THg were observed with plasma vitellogenin and hepatic transcript abundance of estrogen receptor β1 and androgen receptor α, while there was a negative association with estrogen receptors α and β2 and androgen receptors β. In female bass there was a negative correlation between THg and plasma vitellogenin as well as hepatic transcript abundance of vitellogenin, choriogenin, estrogen receptor β2 and 17β hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Associations of THg concentrations with various biological indicators suggest mercury may be an important environmental stressor contributing to the observed adverse effects in smallmouth bass populations.

Abstract
Mercury (Hg) is a contaminant of global concern due to its damaging toxicological effects on organisms. For the vulnerable Dusky Grouper (Epinephelus marginatus) off the coast of Brazil, we investigated: i) spatial patterns in muscle tissue total mercury (THg) contamination; ii) the relationship between muscle THg concentrations and total length iii) the relationship between muscle THg and stable isotopes; and iv) THg concentrations among muscle, liver, and ovary tissues. Out of 134 fish sampled, 21.8 % were higher than 0.5 mg/kg wet weight (above the safe limit for human consumption). THg concentrations increased toward lower latitudes, but an opposite pattern was observed for δ13C and δ15N with decreased values toward lower latitudes. There were significant differences in THg concentration among the three tissues. Results of Hg concentrations are useful for understanding the potential adverse effects on the health of this vulnerable species and to serve as a guide to human consumers.

Abstract
Mercury as a toxic heavy metal will accumulate in the body and induce various diseases through the food chain. However, it is unknown that the detailed mechanism of reproductive disorder induced by inorganic mercury in male mice to date. This study investigated the toxicological effect of mercuric chloride (HgCl2 ) exposure on reproductive system in male mice. Male Kunming mice received normal saline daily or HgCl2 (3 mg/kg bodyweight) by intraperitoneal injection for a week. The reproductive function was evaluated, and the HgCl2 exposure induced the decline of sperm quality, pregnancy rate, mean litter size, and survival rate. Notably, we firstly found the HgCl2 -induced immunosuppression and fibrosis in mice testis according to the results of RNA sequencing. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that HgCl2 exposure disrupts the reproductive system and induces testicular immunosuppression and fibrosis via inhibition of the CD74 signaling pathway in male mice.
