Abstract
With an increase of diverse contaminants in the environment, particularly antibiotics, the maintenance and propagation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are promoted by co-selection mechanisms. ARGs are difficult to degrade, cause long-lasting pollution, and are widely transmitted in aquatic environments. Biochar is frequently used to remove various pollutants during environmental remediation. Thus, this review provides a thorough analysis of the current state of ARGs in the aquatic environment as well as their removal by using biochar. This article summarizes the research and application of biochar and modified biochar to remove ARGs in aquatic environments, in order to refine the following contents: 1) fill gaps in the research on the various ARG behaviors mediated by biochar and some influence factors, 2) further investigate the mechanisms involved in effects of biochar on extracellular ARGs (eARGs) and intracellular ARGs (iARGs) in aquatic environments, including direct and the indirect effects, 3) describe the propagation process and resistance mechanisms of ARGs, 4) propose the challenges and prospects of feasibility of application and subsequent treatment in actual aquatic environment. Here we highlight the most recent research on the use of biochar to remove ARGs from aquatic environments and suggest future directions for optimization, as well as current perspectives to guide future studies on the removal of ARGs from aquatic environments.

Abstract
Compared with the ever-growing information about the anthropogenic discharge of nutrients, metals, and antibiotics on the disturbance of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), less is known about how the potential natural stressors drive the evolutionary processes of antibiotic resistance. This study examined how soil resistomes evolved and differentiated over 30 years in various land use settings with spatiotemporal homogeneity and minimal human impact. We found that the contents of soil organic carbon, nitrogen, soil microbial biomass, and bioavailable heavy metals, as well as related changes in the antibiotic resistome prevalence including diversity and abundance, declined in the order of grassland > cropland > bareland. Sixty-nine remaining ARGs and 14 mobile genetic elements (MGEs) were shared among three land uses. Multiple factors (i.e., soil properties, heavy metals, bacterial community, and MGEs) contributed to the evolutionary changes of the antibiotic resistome, wherein the resistome profile was dominantly driven by MGEs from both direct and indirect pathways, supported by a partial least-squares path model analysis. Our results suggest that pathways to mitigate ARGs in soils can coincide with land degradation processes, posing a challenge to the common goal of managing our environment sustainably.

Abstract
The microbiome is a key source of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), significantly influenced by diet, which highlights the interconnectedness between diet, gut microbiome, and ARGs. Currently, our understanding is limited on the co-occurrence among gut microbiome, antibiotic resistome in the captive giant panda and the perturbation of dietary uptake, especially for the composition and forms in dietary nutrition. Here, a qPCR array with 384 primer sets and 16 S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing were used to characterize the antibiotic resistome and microbiomes in panda feces, dietary bamboo, and soil around the habitat. Diet nutrients containing organic and mineral substances in soluble and insoluble forms were also quantified. Organic and mineral components in water-unextractable fractions were 7.5 to 139 and 637 to 8695 times higher than those in water-extractable portions in bamboo and feces, respectively, while the latter contributed more to the variation (67.5 %) of gut microbiota. Streptococcus, Prevotellaceae, and Bacteroides were the dominant genera in giant pandas. The ARG patterns in panda guts showed higher diversity in old individuals but higher abundance in young ones, driven directly by the bacterial community change and mobile genetic element mediation and indirectly by dietary intervention. Our results suggest that dietary nutrition mainly accounts for the shift of gut microbiota, while bacterial community and mobile genetic elements influenced the variation of gut antibiotic resistome.

Abstract
The pollution status and the harm caused by microplastics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in aquatic ecosystems have been a growing concern. The presence of microplastics could accelerate the transfer and spread of ARGs. Before sewage reaches natural water bodies, microplastics and ARGs need to be eliminated through specific processes. Constructed wetlands are currently an effective and environmentally friendly wastewater treatment process. Research has shown significant effectiveness in removing microplastics and ARGs. Microplastics and ARGs can be removed through processes such as adsorption, capture, adhesion, and biodegradation. However, long-term continuous operation could lead to constructed wetlands becoming significant reservoirs of microplastics and ARGs. Inflow loads and seasonal variations in constructed wetlands may result in the reintroduction of persistent microplastics and ARGs into the receiving water body, establishing the constructed wetland as a continuous source of these pollutants in the receiving water body. The key to the widespread application of constructed wetlands lies in solving this challenging problem. Therefore, although constructed wetlands serve as a green strategy for removing microplastics and ARGs, there are still many gaps in our knowledge. Based on the current accumulation of microplastics and ARGs in constructed wetlands, this paper summarizes the removal of microplastics and ARGs in existing constructed wetlands and explores the interaction between them. Additionally, it proposes suggestions for optimizing the process and improving the reliability of monitoring microplastics and ARGs in sewage.

Abstract
N-(4-N', N', N'-trimethylphosphonium chloride) benzoyl chitosan (TMPCS), N-(4-N', N', N'-triphenylphosphonium chloride) benzoyl chitosan (TPPCS), and N-(4-N', N', N'-trimethylmethanaminium chloride) benzoyl chitosan (TMACS) were synthesized. The structures of the products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. Their antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) were investigated in vitro using the antibacterial rate, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), the antibiofilm activity was investigated by crystal violet assay. The antibacterial assessment revealed that the chitosan quaternary phosphonium salts of similar structure had superior antibacterial activity than chitosan quaternary ammonium salt. The antibacterial rate of CS, TMPCS, TPPCS and TMACS against E. coli at 0.5 mg/mL was 10.4 %, 42.0 %, 58.5 % and 21.6 % respectively. At the same concentration, the antibacterial rate of TMPCS, TPPCS and TMACS against S.aureus was all up to 100 %. The biofilm inhibition rate of CS, TMPCS, TPPCS and TMACS at a half of MIC against E.coli was 28.4 %, 33.9 %, 56.6 % and 57.6 % respectively, and against S.aureus was 30.8 %, 53.8 %, 62.2 % and 58.5 % respectively. The biofilm removal rate of CS, TMPCS, TPPCS, TMACS against E.coli at 2.5 mg/mL was 20.6 %, 46.4 %, 48.9 % and 41.6 % respectively, and against S.aureus at 2.5 mg/mL was 41.5 %, 60.4 %, 69.9 % and 59.01 % respectively.

Abstract
As one of the largest carbon emitters, China promises to achieve carbon emissions neutrality by 2060. Various industries are developing businesses to reduce carbon emissions. As an important greenhouse gas emissions scenario, the reduction of carbon emissions in the food chain can be achieved by preparing the wastes into biochar. The food chain, as one of the sources of biochar, consists of production, processing and consumption, in which many wastes can be transferred into biochar. However, few studies use the food chain as the system to sort out the raw materials of biochar. A systematic review of the food chain application in serving as raw materials for biochar is helpful for further application of such technique, providing supportive information for the development of biochar preparation and wastes treating. In addition, there are many pollution sources in the food production process, such as agricultural contaminated soil and wastewater from livestock and aquatic, that can be treated on-site to achieve the goal of treating wastes with wastes within the food chain. This study focuses on waste resource utilization and pollution remediation in the food chain, summarizing the sources of biochar in the food chain and analyzing the feasibility of using waste in food chain to treat contaminated sites in the food chain and discussing the impacts of the greenhouse gas emissions. This review provides a reference for the resource utilization of waste and pollution reduction in the food chain.
