Abstract
In view of the adsorption performance of polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVPP) to flavones, the adsorption and purification of bamboo leaf flavones (BLFs) by PVPP were studied. The flavones solution was adsorbed by PVPP column chromatography, and then establish a relatively effective method for elution and purification of flavones from bamboo leaf. The optimal separation conditions of column chromatography were determined as the following: the feed concentration of 10 mg/mL, the ratio of diameter to height of 1:1.9, eluents of deionized water (21 mL) and 70% ethanol (800 mL) with a flow rate of 0.33 mL/min. The purity of flavones obtained from ethanol eluents (80-480 mL) was 96.2%. This showed that the PVPP had an ideal adsorption and purification effect on BLFs.

Abstract
Grape pomace (GP) is a by-product resulting from the winemaking process and its potential use as a source of bioactive compounds is well known. The GP bioactive compounds can be retained in the well-known polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVPP), industrially used in the clarification and stabilization of wine and other drinks. Thus, the polyphenolic compounds (PC) from the Chilean Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot GP were extracted, and their compositions and antioxidant capacities (ORAC-FL) were determined. In addition, the retention capacity of the PC on PVPP (PC-PVPP) was evaluated. The bioactivities of GP extracts and PC-PVPP were estimated by the agar plate inhibition assay against pathogenic microorganisms. Results showed a high amount of TPC and antioxidant capacity in the three ethanolic GPs extracts. Anthocyanins, flavan-3-ol, and flavonols were the most abundant compounds in the GP extract, with retentions between 70 and 99% on PVPP. The GP extracts showed inhibition activity against B. cereus and P. syringae pv. actinidiae but the GP-PVPP had no antimicrobial activity. The high affinity of the identified PCs from GPs on PVPP polymer could allow the design of new processes and by-products for the food or cosmeceutical industry, promoting a circular economy by reducing and reusing wastes (GPs and PVPP) and organic solvents.

Abstract
Fishy odor in fish products severely influences both eating quality and commercial acceptability, and natural plant extracts, particularly spices, have recently become popular for the removal of fishy odor. This study aimed to explore the potential of rosemary extract for the deodorization of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), as well as to identify the deodorizing components in rosemary extract. Results showed that all of the spice extracts used in this study (ginger, garlic, angelica dahurica, fennel, rosemary, nutmeg, white cardamom, cinnamon, star anise, and bay leaf) significantly reduced the fishy odor value of silver carp, among which rosemary extract was most effective, decreasing the fishy odor value by about 58%. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis and sensory evaluation showed that the fishy odor value and concentrations of the fishy odor-active compounds were significantly reduced by the application of rosemary extract. However, the lower the total phenolic content of rosemary extract, the poorer the deodorizing effects against silver carp, suggesting that the deodorizing effect was primarily driven by polyphenols. Fourteen phenolic compounds were measured in rosemary extract, and three individual phenolic compounds (rosmarinic acid [RA], carnosic acid [CA], and carnosol [CS]) were chosen for deodorizing experiment. Sensory detection results and changes of contents of volatile showed that these three phenolic compounds are effective at removing the fishy odor. These results suggest that polyphenols are the main deodorizing components, and RA, CA, and CS are the main deodorizing active compounds in rosemary extract. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: The results of this study may provide a new way to determine the deodorizing components of spice extracts. Moreover, it can provide guidance for further research in investigating the deodorizing mechanism of sipce extracts.

Abstract
Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (PVPP) is a synthetic water insoluble polymer produced by cross-linking of polyvinylpyrrilidone. It is used as a fining agent in the wine industry for removing low molecular weight phenolic compounds. There are no available data on the worldwide use of PVPP in the wine industry; nevertheless, its estimated use in Portugal in 2016 for white wine fining was nearly 147 tons. Used PVPP ends up on the municipal wastewater treatment plants, and as it contains significant quantities of adsorbed polyphenols it has a detrimental environmental impact. Recycling of PVPP for obtaining fully reusable PVPP and phenolic compounds for the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry would increase the sustainability of its industrial use. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to develop a simple, cheap and eco-friendly regeneration strategy for the re-use of PVPP and at the same time to obtain pure extracts of wine phenolic compounds in order to exploit new opportunities for recycling used PVPP. The performance of the recycled PVPP for white wine fining was the identical when compared to a new PVPP.

Abstract
Ecotoxicological risks of neonicotinoid insecticides are raising significant concerns, including their potential role in bee population declines. Neonicotinoids are water-soluble, systemic insecticides, and exposure of nontarget organisms such as pollinators occurs mainly through residues in nectar and pollens of flowering plants. To better elucidate the underlying mechanisms for such nontarget exposure, it is highly valuable to develop analytical capabilities for in vivo monitoring of neonicotinoids in live plants. In this study, we developed a novel biomimetic water-swelling solid-phase microextraction (SPME) probe, with limits of detection for neonicotinoids as low as 0.03 ng mL-1, and applied it for in vivo detection of seven neonicotinoids in plant sap. The preparation of this fiber was simple and free of stringent or complex physical-chemical reactions. Equilibrium in neonicotinoid accumulation on the fiber was reached in <10 min, allowing for near instantaneous sampling. The water-swelling fiber displayed much greater sampling capacity than the commercially available polydimethylsiloxane and polyacrylate fibers, good reproducibility (RSD of inter- and intrafiber <8.9% and 7.8%, respectively), and antibiofouling property (no loss in performance after 20 use cycles). After treating lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) by foliar spray and soybean (Glycine max M.) by seed soaking, the in vivo assays provided a wealth of information, including changes in levels and distribution of neonicotinoids over time in the same plants. Kinetics and distribution patterns suggested that after treatment at the same level, neonicotinoids differed significantly in their levels in the sap. The in vivo sampling and monitoring of neonicotinoids in live plants may provide unique and much needed information in achieving breakthrough understanding of the connection between neonicotinoid use and pollinator exposure.

Abstract
In present research, a simplistic hydrothermal method was adopted for one-step synthesis of nanozeolite beta (NZB) having an average particle size of 18nm with Si/Al ratio 46.67, surface area 328m2/g, pore volume 0.287cm3/g, and pore diameter 3.5nm. The surface of the synthesized NZB was modified with 0.5wt% hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (HDTMA-Br) and used as an adsorbent for the removal of two phytoestrogens daidzein and coumestrol from aqueous solutions. The surface properties and surface charge of NZB considerably changed after modification with HDTMA-Br, which resulted in enhanced removal of daidzein (92-98% from 7 to 27%) and coumestrol (93.5-99% from 5 to 9.2%). The surface modified zeolite beta (SMZB) has similar physical characteristics as of NZB with an average particle size of 20nm, surface area 299.8m2/g, pore volume 0.263cm3/g, and pore diameter 3.51nm. The influence of various parameters was examined by conducting a sequence of batch experiments. The adsorption equilibrium was achieved in less than 3h with saturation capacity of 40.74mg/g and 42.87mg/g for daidzein and coumestrol, respectively. The Freundlich isotherm and fractional order kinetic models represented the adsorption data very closely. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that sorption of both phytoestrogens onto SMZB is spontaneous and exothermic.
