Abstract
Novel amide ligands in the ionic liquid (1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide) were utilized for the liquid-liquid biphasic mass transfer of Eu3+ ions from aqueous acidic waste solution. The cation exchange mechanism was found to be operative with the formation of [Eu(NO3)2L3]+ species (L = 4-chloro-N-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)picolinamide). However, the presence of an inner-sphere water molecule was revealed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The viscosity-induced slower kinetics was evidenced during mass transfer, which was improved by increasing temperature. The process was exothermic in nature. The improvement in the kinetics of extractive mass transfer at higher temperatures is evinced by a reduction in the distribution ratio value. The spontaneity of the reaction was evidenced through the negative Gibbs free energy value, whereas the process enhances the entropy of the system, probably by releasing water molecules at least partially during complexation. The structures of bare ligands and complexes have been optimized by using DFT calculations. A high value of complexation energy, solvation energy, and associated enthalpy and free energy change reveal the efficacy in binding Eu with O and N donor atoms. In addition, natural population analysis, atoms-in-molecules analysis, and energy decomposition analysis have been employed to explore the nature of bonding existing in Eu-O and Eu-N bonds.

Abstract
In the solvent extraction process, the importance of an extractant (or ligand) and a diluent is inferred from their respective physicochemical properties. We have brought together all the recent results reported on the mixture of different extractants dissolved in a well-known ionic liquid diluent: 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([C4 mim][NTf2 ]) in the form of a review and aimed to emphasize the role of ligand polarity and structure on the physicochemical properties of an ionic liquid (IL) diluent. Some of the most important properties such as dynamic viscosity (η), absolute density ( ρ ${{\rm{{\rm \rho} }}}$ ), energy of activation (Ea ), coefficient of thermal expansion (α), phase separation time (PST), refractive index (n), etc., have been discussed meticulously in the paper. The effect of ligand structure on the aggregation behaviour of IL phase and the physicochemical properties of gamma irradiated solvent phases containing different ligands and their solution with IL phase also have been deliberated in detail.

Abstract
Solvent extraction of Eu3+ and Am3+via N,N,N′,N'-tetraoctyl diglycolamide (TODGA) dissolved in different molecular diluents was studied. The diluent types used in this work were primary and secondary alcohols, secondary ketones and alkanes. Effects of concentration of extracting agent, temperature, diluent type and its carbon chain length on the extractions were determined. Distribution ratios of Eu3+ and Am3+ showed high dependence on the diluent type as well as the carbon chain length within the same type of diluent. The highest distribution ratios for both Eu3+ and Am3+ as well as the separation factors of Eu3+ over Am3+ were observed in the alkane diluents. Unexpectedly high distribution ratios for Eu3+ and Am3+ were observed in polar diluents with 5 carbon atoms in the chain, clearly standing out against the general trends. It was found that Eu3+ and Am3+ extraction via TODGA is enthalpy driven in all the studied diluents and that extraction is more exothermic in alkane diluents. Analysis of the stoichiometry of the extracted complexes shows that the average ligand number of TODGA molecules in the extracted complex is lower for Am3+ compared to Eu3+ except for with alkane diluents. Solvent extraction of Eu3+ and Am3+via N,N,N′,N'-tetraoctyl diglycolamide (TODGA) dissolved in different molecular diluents was studied.![]()
