Abstract
For fabricating a membrane with hydrophilic and complexing agent groups, a new dithiocarbamate-based polymer (DTCP) containing dithiocarbamate, thioamide, and ethereal oxygen groups was synthesized and blended in polysulfone (PSF) matrix with 1, 2, 5, and 10 wt% proportion. The membranes were produced by the nonsolvent induced phase separation method. For DTCP characterization, NMR, FTIR, TGA and GPC techniques were used. SEM images show that no morphological change can be seen even in 10 wt% blended membranes. AFM surface images show that the roughness of 5 and 10 wt% membranes extremely increased. The performance of the DTCP/PSF membranes were investigated in the separation of lead ions and Reactive Yellow 39 dye from the contaminated water. The outcomes indicated that by increasing the amount of DTCP up to 10 wt%, the pure water flux, bovine serum albumin flux, and the lead removal increased very efficiently compared to the bare one. Blending of more than 1 wt% DTCP, cause to removal of 99.6% lead ions. The water contact angle decreased by the adding of DTCP, caused to increase fouling resistance. The results of this research shows that the synthesized DTCP can be used as a good additive for improving membrane permeability, anti-fouling and especially heavy metal removal efficiency.

Abstract
Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), with excellent mechanical strength, thermal stability and chemical corrosion resistance, has become an excellent material for separation membranes fabrication. However, the high hydrophobicity of PVDF membrane surface normally leads a decreased water permeability and serious membrane pollution, which ultimately result in low operational efficiency, short lifespan of membrane, high operation cost and other problems. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), have been widely applied for membrane modification due to its large specific surface area, large porosity and adjustable pore size. Currently, numerous MOFs have been synthesized and used to adjust the membrane separation properties. In this study, MIL-53(Al) were blended with PVDF casting solution to prepare ultrafiltration (UF) membrane through a phase separation technique. The optimal separation performance was achieved by varying the concentration of MIL-53(Al). The surface properties and microstructures of the as-prepared membranes with different MIL-53(Al) loading revealed that the incorporation of MIL-53(Al) enhanced the membrane hydrophilicity and increased the porosity and average pore size of the membrane. The optimal membrane decorated with 5 wt% MIL-53(Al) possessed a pure water permeability up to 43.60 L m-2 h-1 bar-1, while maintaining higher rejections towards BSA (82.09%). Meanwhile, the prepared MIL-53(Al)/LiCl@PVDF membranes exhibited an excellent antifouling performance.

Abstract
The Mil-125(Ti)-CS nanocomposite was successfully synthesized and characterized by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Then, to improve the membrane performance, the synthesized Mil-125(Ti)-CS nanocomposite was embedded into the polyethersulfone (PES) membrane matrix. The nanofiltration membranes were fabricated via phase inversion method. Presence of chitosan in the structure of Mil-125(Ti) has increased the compatibility of nanoparticles with the polymer and also improved the hydrophilicity of the resulted membranes. The water contact angle of bare membrane (58°) was reduced to 40° by blending of 1 wt% nanocomposite led to increasing the pure water flux. However, the incorporation of more than 1 wt% of the nanocomposite caused the accumulation of nanocomposites and this was reduced the pore radius and permeability. The membrane containing 1 wt% nanocomposite was displayed the highest flux recovery ratio (FRR) ∼ 98% in bovine serum albumin (BSA) filtration. The membranes containing Mil-125(Ti)-CS also showed good performance against fouling. The performance of membranes was evaluated by treatment of six reactive dyes, antibiotic (cefixime), heavy metal, NaCl and Na2SO4 solutions. Addition of Mil-125(Ti)-CS NPs at low concentrations resulted in membranes with high pure water flux, higher separation efficiency, and remarkable anti-fouling behavior.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were successfully synthesized using the aqueous extract of the Paronychia argentea Lam (P. argentea) wild plant. The results showed that the conversion of Ag+ to Ag0 nanoparticles ratio reached 96.5% as determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES), with a negative zeta potential (ζ) of −21.3 ± 7.68 mV of AgNPs expected to improve the stability of synthesized AgNPs. AgNP antibacterial activity has been examined against Streptococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) was 4.9 µL/mL for both E. coli and S. aureus bacteria, while the minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) were 19.9 µL/mL and 4.9 µL/mL for S. aureus and E. coli, respectively. The synthesized AgNPs were incorporated in ultrafiltration polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) membranes and showed remarkable antibiofouling behavior against both bacterial strains. The membranes were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The contact angle and porosity of the membrane were also determined. The efficiency of the membranes regarding rejection rate was assessed using bovine serum albumin (BSA). It was found in the flux experiments that membranes BSA rejection was 99.4% and 98.7% with and without AgNPs, respectively.

Abstract
Fenton-like oxidation for multicomponent wastewater treatment suffers from a low efficiency due to non-selective nature of produced reactive species. In this study, a multifunctional dual-layer ultrafiltration membrane (Seq-ICM) was synthesized for multiple pollutants decontamination. Characterizations of the membranes indicate that Seq-ICM comprises a skin layer for ultrafiltration, and a porous support layer loaded with ∼50% MIL-53(Fe) for catalysis. With bovine serum albumin coexisting, Seq-ICM can remove 75.7% bisphenol S (BPS), which is much higher than that of a simultaneous interception-catalysis membrane (44.2 %). For multicomponent wastewater treatment, Seq-ICM system can save ∼59%-67% oxidant dosage as well compared with catalysis alone membrane system to achieve 50% BPS removal. Furthermore, the decontamination mechanisms were investigated to explain the advantages of Seq-ICM. Sequential interception and oxidation process by Seq-ICM leads to the interception of macromolecular substances first, following by catalytic oxidation of low-molecular-weight organics. This process prevents macromolecular substances from competing for active species with low-molecular-weight organics, thereby enhancing selectivity and oxidation efficiency. Meanwhile, Seq-ICM shows satisfactory BPS removal efficiency for treatment of 2865 L/m2 synthetic solution, as well as in real wastewater matrix. We believe the proposed technology based on a composite membrane is promising for the removal of multicomponent substances from wastewater.

Abstract
A new kind of flat sheet ultrafiltration membrane was prepared by a promising membrane material, poly (aryl ether nitrile) (PEN), via non-solvent induced phase separation. The effect of solvents, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and dimethyl acetamide (DMAc), as well as additive of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) with different molecular weights on the structure and permeation performance of synthesized membranes were investigated. Comparing with NMP, DMAc is more suitable for the casting solution preparation due to better solubility. A gradually changing pore from sponge-like to finger-like can be observed when PEG was added with DMAc as solvent, while a finger-like pore structure always appears in the NMP system with or without PEG. In both systems, the formation of macrovoids is effectively promoted by the addition of PEG, and higher porosity membranes can be obtained by PEG with higher molecular weight. With the increase of PEG molecular weight from 400 to 10,000 Da, the permeate flux increases from 74.5 to 114.3 L·m-2·h-1 and from 102.0 to 130.8 L·m-2·h-1 under a 100 kPa pressure-driven when NMP and DMAc were used as solvents, respectively. The membranes prepared by DMAc exhibit outstanding rejection of BSA with rejections all above 96.5%.
