Abstract
To synergistically enhance the adsorption and photocatalytic performance of Bi2WO6 and Bi2MoO6, using activated biochar (ACB) as substrate, ACB-Bi2WO6 and ACB-Bi2MoO6 composites were facilely prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. Their adsorption-photocatalytic degradation effects on rhodamine B (RhB), tetracycline (TC), and norfloxacin (NOR) were comparatively investigated. Additionally, the effects of environmental factors, wastewater treatment tests, and disinfection were systematically studied, and the enhancement mechanisms and reasons for the degradation differences were highlighted. The results showed that ACB-Bi2WO6 and ACB-Bi2MoO6 were confirmed to form intimately contacted heterojunctions by various advanced characterization techniques. The introduction of ACB narrowed the band-gap energy of Bi2WO6 and Bi2MoO6, and improved the visible light absorption range and specific surface area. The optimal loading ratios of ACB-Bi2WO6 and ACB-Bi2MoO6 were 1:1.06 and 1:0.58, respectively. The removal rate of ACB-Bi2WO6 for high concentrations of RhB (200 mg·L-1), TC and NOR (50 mg·L-1) were 89.15%, 87.27%, and 72.17%, respectively, which were higher than those of ACB-Bi2MoO6 and significantly stronger than those of Bi2WO6 and Bi2MoO6. This was attributed to the more effective inhibition of photogenerated carrier recombination, higher absorbance, and uniform morphology via ACB-Bi2WO6. ·OH and holes were dominant active species in photocatalysis, and the possible photogenerated carrier transfer path is type II heterojunction. Furthermore, ACB-Bi2WO6 possessed good reusability, and the removal of RhB and TC from the actual wastewater exceeded 80.63% and 58.54%, respectively. The sterilization rates of ACB-Bi2WO6 reached 99% and 95% for E. coli and S. aureus within 24 h, respectively. Therefore, ACB-Bi2WO6 was more recommended for environmental applications.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has emerged as an extraordinary and rapidly developing discipline of science. It has remolded the fate of the whole world by providing diverse horizons in different fields. Nanomaterials are appealing because of their incredibly small size and large surface area. Apart from the naturally occurring nanomaterials, synthetic nanomaterials are being prepared on large scales with different sizes and properties. Such nanomaterials are being utilized as an innovative and green approach in multiple fields. To expand the applications and enhance the properties of the nanomaterials, their functionalization and engineering are being performed on a massive scale. The functionalization helps to add to the existing useful properties of the nanomaterials, hence broadening the scope of their utilization. A large class of covalent and non-covalent functionalized nanomaterials (FNMs) including carbons, metal oxides, quantum dots, and composites of these materials with other organic or inorganic materials are being synthesized and used for environmental remediation applications including wastewater treatment. This review summarizes recent advances in the synthesis, reporting techniques, and applications of FNMs in adsorptive and photocatalytic removal of pollutants from wastewater. Future prospects are also examined, along with suggestions for attaining massive benefits in the areas of FNMs.

Abstract
A high-efficiency Z-scheme Bi2MoO6/AgI heterojunction was designed and fabricated via in situ growth of AgI on Bi2MoO6. Its photocatalytic activity was investigated with the degradation of malachite green (MG). After 40 min of visible light irradiation, near complete degradation of MG (20 mg/L) occurred when BA11 (Bi2MoO6:AgI = 1:1, 2.0 g/L) was present, while only 29.0% and 49.7% of the MG could be degraded in the presence of Bi2MoO6 and AgI, respectively. The excellent photocatalytic activity of BA11 results from strong visible light absorption and the low recombination efficiency of photogenerated electron-hole pairs induced by the formation of heterojunction. Density function theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the formation of built-in electric field at the interface between Bi2MoO6 and AgI facilitates the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. Results of reuse experiments indicated that the heterostructured photocatalyst has excellent stability. Radical scavenging experiments and electron spin resonance spectra showed that superoxide radicals (O2-) and hydroxyl radicals (OH) were the major reactive oxygen species in the photocatalytic system. The photocatalytic degradation pathway of MG was proposed based on the organic degradation intermediates detected. These findings demonstrate that the mediator-free Z-scheme Bi2MoO6/AgI heterojunction could serve as a promising photocatalyst in photocatalytic treatment of organic pollutants.

Abstract
Abstract
Photocatalysis method for environmental applications has been using for a long time. This review article traces back the origin of catalysis, its classification and journey of development to heterogeneous photocatalysis and the article’s novelty is in the simplicity, and easily understandable language, designed for the beginners. These heterogeneous photocatalysts are grouped into eleven different categories. As the paper is focused on photocatalysis, an insight on fundamental principles and mechanisms of photocatalysis are explained systematically with schematic illustrations and reactions that take place during redox- oxidation and reduction reactions in photocatalysis. With an approach towards utilizing green energy and expanding the photocatalyst’ absorption wavelength range towards the visible regime, bandgap engineering techniques by adopting doping and hetero-structures are explained with examples of different materials. In addition, dominating factors of photocatalysis reaction viz. composition of a heterogeneous photocatalyst, doping, hetero-structures, pH, surface defects on photocatalysis reaction are explored, focussing on variable charge transfer mechanisms. The main influencing factor in generating reactive oxygen species is pH of the photocatalysis reaction and are studied indetail. The effect of alkalinity or acidity in catalyst surfaces and molecular interaction depending upon the point zero charges of the photocatalyst are discussed. For the better study of catalyst properties, careful analysis and study is a much-needed field as a scope for further improvement. Hence, this article will guide a beginner to understand the photocatalysis topic with ease.

Abstract
In this work, the carbon quantum dot (CQD)-decorated BiFeO3 nanoparticle photocatalysts were prepared by a hydrothermal method. The TEM observation and XPS characterization indicate that the CQDs are well anchored on the surface of BiFeO3 nanoparticles. Acid orange 7 (AO7) and hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) were chosen as the model pollutants to investigate the photocatalytic/photo-Fenton degradation and photocatalytic reduction performances of the as-prepared CQD/BiFeO3 composites under visible and near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation. Compared with bare BiFeO3 nanoparticles, the CQD/BiFeO3 composites exhibit significantly improved photocatalytic and photo-Fenton catalytic activities. Moreover, the composites possess good catalytic stability. The efficient photogenerated charges separation in the composites was demonstrated by the photocurrent response and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The main active species involved in the catalytic degradation reaction were clarified by radicals trapping and detection experiments. The underlying photocatalytic and photo-Fenton mechanisms are systematically investigated and discussed.
