Abstract
Heterojunctions based on conjugated polymers (PHJs) are of promise as photocatalysts. Here, we fabricate the two-dimensional benzodithiophene (BDT) and thieno[2,3-f]benzofuran (TBF) based conjugated polymers/g-C3N4 PHJs creatively using the symmetry-breaking strategy. PD1 and PD3 with the asymmetric backbone TBF have better crystallinity. Moreover, PD3 utilizing fluorinated benzotriazole as the electron acceptor unit possesses more compact π - π stacking and higher charge mobility. The conjugated polymer PD5 with asymmetric side chains in the donor unit BDT guarantees more efficient charge transfer in the corresponding PD5/g-C3N4 PHJ while maintaining comparable light utilization rate. Consequently, PD5/g-C3N4 shows the champion performance with photocatalytic sterilization rates reaching 99.1% and 97.3% for S. aureus and E. coli. Notably, the reaction rate constant for Rhodamine B degradation of PD5/g-C3N4 is 8 times that of g-C3N4, a record high among conjugated polymers/g-C3N4. This study aims to reveal the structure - property correlation of asymmetric conjugated polymers/g-C3N4 for potential photocatalysis applications.

Abstract
A hot research topic in visible-light-driven photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) oxidation technology is the development of superior photoanode materials. The design of the photoanode system with a direct Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism is crucial to achieving effective charge separation for sustainable photoelectrocatalysis. Here, a novel Bi/Bi2S3/α-MoO3 heterostructure was successfully assembled by a simple and feasible strategy. The direct Z-scheme heterogeneous formed between Bi2S3 and α-MoO3 has the advantages of low resistance, high optical response current and the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Bi nanoparticles (Bi NPs). Thus, the efficiency of photogenerated carrier separation and transfer is further enhanced, and the catalytic activity is significantly improved. It is impressive that the unique photoanode has achieved a maximum removal efficiency of 85.8% of tetracycline (TC) pollutants under visible light irradiation within 60 min and has excellent stability, which is expected to degrade antibiotics efficiently and environmentally in harsh environments. These characteristics give Bi/Bi2S3/α-MoO3 promising candidates for practical applications in antibiotic degradation.

Abstract
BiVO4 has been constructed into heterojunctions with TiO2 to boost the photocatalytic ability under visible illumination. Here, mesoporous BiVO4/TiO2 nanocomposites have been fabricated by a facile sol-gel approach utilizing nonionic surfactant and addressed for morphological, optical, structural, and degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP) in water under visible illumination as an antibiotic pollutant model. The TEM images demonstrated that the TiO2 NPs are homogenous in terms of shape and size (15 ± 5 nm). The introduction of BiVO4 into mesoporous TiO2 could effectively enhance the rapid separation efficiency of the photoinduced carriers and optical absorption. The 3%BiVO4/TiO2 photocatalyst possessed the best degradation efficiency (100%) within 60 min which was promoted 20-folds larger than TiO2 NPs (5%). 3%BiVO4/TiO2 nanocomposite exhibited the fastest degradation rate (2.15 × 10-2 min-1), which was 40 times faster than bare TiO2 photocatalyst (0.05 × 10-2 min-1). The enhanced photocatalytic ability originated from superior charge separation characteristics and high solar energy absorption in mesopore structures. The recombination rate and mobility of charge carriers were characterized utilizing photoluminescence (PL) and photoelectrochemical measurements. This work highlights the advantages of mesoporous heterojunction BiVO4/TiO2 nanocomposites for photocatalytic performances and provides a multilateral route to design an effective wide-spectrum response photocatalyst for the development of comparable materials. The photocatalytic mechanism for degradation CIP over BiVO4/TiO2 was discussed in detail..

Abstract
The ultraviolet (UV)/H2O2, UV/O3, UV/peroxodisulfate (PDS) and UV/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) methods are called UV-based advanced oxidation processes. In the UV/H2O2 and UV/O3 processes, the free radicals generated are hydroxyl radicals (•OH), while in the UV/PDS and UV/PMS processes, sulfate radicals (SO4•−) predominate, accompanied by •OH. SO4•− are considered to be more advantageous than •OH in degrading organic substances, so the researches on activation of PDS and PMS have become a hot spot in recent years. Especially the utilization of UV-activated PDS and PMS in removing antibiotics in water has received much attention. Some influencing factors and mechanisms are constantly investigated and discussed in the UV/PDS and UV/PMS systems toward antibiotics degradation. However, a systematic review about UV/PDS and UV/PMS in eliminating antibiotics is lacking up to now. Therefore, this review is intended to present the properties of UV sources, antibiotics, and PDS (PMS), to discuss the application of UV/PDS (PMS) in degrading antibiotics from the aspects of effect, influencing factors and mechanism, and to analyze and propose future research directions.

Abstract
Photocatalysis is a green technology to use ubiquitous and intermittent sunlight. The emerging S-scheme heterojunction has demonstrated its superiority in photocatalysis. This article covers the state-of-the-art progress and provides new insights into its general designing criteria. It starts with the challenges confronted by single photocatalyst from the perspective of energy dissipation by borrowing the common behaviors in the dye molecule. Subsequently, other problems faced by single photocatalyst are summarized. Then a viable solution for these problems is the construction of heterojunctions. To overcome the problems and mistakes of type-II and Z-scheme heterojunctions, S-scheme heterojunction is proposed and the underlying reaction mechanism is summarized. Afterward, the design principles for S-scheme heterojunction are proposed and four types of S-scheme heterojunctions are suggested. Following this, direct characterization techniques for testifying the charge transfer in S-scheme heterojunction are presented. Finally, different photocatalytic applications of S-scheme heterojunctions are summarized. Specifically, this work endeavors to clarify the critical understanding on curved Fermi level in S-scheme heterojunction interface, which can help strengthen and advance the fundamental theories of photocatalysis. Moreover, the current challenges and prospects of the S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst are critically discussed.

Abstract
Pharmaceutically active compounds are an emerging water contaminant that resists conventional wastewater treatments. Herein, the sonophotocatalytic degradation of Tetracycline (TC) antibiotics as a model contaminant was carried out over a rod-like g-C3N4/V2O5 (RCN-VO) nanocomposite. RCN-VO nanocomposite was synthesized via ultrasound-assisted thermal polycondensation method. The results showed that the RCN-VO nanocomposite could completely remove the TC in water within 60 min under simultaneous irradiation of visible light and ultrasound. Moreover, the sonophotocatalytic TC degradation (a synergy index of ∼1.5) was superior to the sum of individual sonocatalytic and photocatalytic degradation using RCN-VO nanocomposite. Besides, the enhanced sonophotocatalytic activity of RCN-VO can be attributed to the 1D/2D nanostructure and the S-scheme heterojunction formation between RCN and VO where the electrons migrated from RCN to VO across the RCN-VO interface. Under irradiation, the built-in electric field, band edge bending and Coulomb interaction can synergistically facilitate the unavailing electron-hole pair recombination. Thereby, the cumulative electron in RCN and holes in VO can actively take part in the redox reaction which generates free radicals and attack the TC molecules. This study provides insight into a novel S-Scheme heterojunction photocatalyst for the removal of various refractory contaminants via sonophotocatalytic degradation.
