Abstract
Design and fabrication of feasible remediation composites for total Cr (Cr(T)) removal is still challenging but urgently required. Herein, eco-friendly expanded vermiculite (VE) is integrated with a photoactive covalent organic framework (COF) polymer, in which photoinduced electrons of surface anchored COF can freely transfer to Cr(VI) for chemical reduction, and layered expanded VE allows ion exchange between resultant Cr(III) cations and interlayered K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, etc. The Cr(T) removal capacities of the surface-modified VE with important parameters (solution pH value, initial Cr(VI) concentration, etc.) are discussed extensively to understand how to select the best conditions for optimum Cr(T) removal performance. More interestingly, from a circular economy view point, spent Cr-loading VE-based waste can serve as a photocatalyst towards oxidation conversion of ciprofloxacin and NO gas subsequently. Explanations for different effects on physicochemical properties as well as catalytic activities of the reused Cr-loading waste are given. This strategy could provide valuable and promising contribution towards the development of sustainable low-cost mineral materials for Cr(T) removal. These findings also shed new light on the research of recycling spent photocatalyst for resource and reutilization.

Enhanced visible light assisted peroxymonosulfate process by biochar in-situ enriched with γ-Fe 2O 3 for p-chlorophenol degradation: performance, mechanism and DFT calculation. JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2023; 445:130593. Abstract
In this study, a novel γ-Fe2O3/biochar (BFγ) composite by a plant in-situ enrichment and one-step pyrolysis strategy was prepared, which was applied as a photocatalyst to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of p-chlorophenol (4-CP) under visible light irradiation (BFγ/PMS/Vis) system. The characterization results exhibited that γ-Fe2O3 with localized carbon doping was evenly embedded in biochar during the pyrolysis. BFγ exhibited better photoresponse properties than biochar (BC) and γ-Fe2O3. The removal efficiency of this system for 4-CP reached 96.41% under optimal conditions. This system showed high removal efficiency with a wide pH range (3.0-13.0) and under conditions of different organic pollutants. It also showed strong resistance to interference with co-existing inorganic ions and humic acid (HA). Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and radical scavenging experiments revealed that the reactive oxygen species (ROS) in this system included SO4-·, ·OH, ·O2- and 1O2. The density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations further revealed the promotion of localized carbon doping in γ-Fe2O3 on electron transfer and photoresponse, including C-O bond (d=1.29 Å), C-Fe bond (d=1.80 Å) and band gap value (Egap < 0.72 eV). This study provides new insights into constructing environmentally-friendly catalysts and the possibility of the solid waste recycling for other wetland plants.

Abstract
Natural or industrial hexavalent chromium water pollution continues to be a worldwide unresolved threat. Today, there is intense research on new active and cost-effective sorbents for Cr(VI), but most still exhibit a critical limitation: their powdered nature makes their recovery from water cost and energy consuming. In this work, Al(OH)3, MIL-88-B(Fe), and UiO-66-NH2 Cr(VI) sorbents were immobilized into a poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) polymeric substrate to develop an easily reactivable and reusable water filtering technology. The immobilization of the sorbents into the PVDF-HFP porous matrix modified the macro and meso-porous structure of the polymeric matrix, tuning in parallel its wettability. Although a partial blocking of the Cr(VI) adsorptive capacity was observed for of Al(OH)3 and MIL-88-B(Fe) when immobilized into composite membranes, PVDF-HFP/UiO-66-NH2 filter (i) exceeded the full capacity of the non-immobilized sorbent to trap Cr(VI), (ii) could be reactivated and reusable, and (iii) it was fully functional when applied in real water effluents.

Abstract
In this study, β-CD@mesoporous SiO2 nanospheres (β-CD@mSi) were prepared by loading β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) onto mesoporous silica nanospheres through an in situ synthesis. This not only solved the defect of β-CD being easily soluble in water, but also changed the physical structure of the mesoporous silica nanospheres. FTIR and XPS results showed that β-CD was successfully loaded onto mesoporous silica nanospheres (mSi), while enhancing the adsorption effect. β-CD@mSi with a monomer diameter of about 150 nm were prepared. At a temperature of 298k, the removal efficiency of a 100 mg/L solution of rifampicin can reach 90% in 4 h and the adsorption capacity was 275.42 mg g-1 at high concentration. Through the calculation and analysis of adsorption kinetics, adsorption isotherms and adsorption thermodynamics based on the experimental data, the reaction is a spontaneous endothermic reaction dominated by chemical adsorption. The electron transfer pathway, structure-activity relationship and energy between β-CD@mSi and rifampicin were investigated by quantum chemical calculations. The accuracy of the characterization test results to judge the adsorption mechanism was verified, to show the process of rifampicin removal by β-CD@mSi more clearly and convincingly. The simulation results show that π-π interaction plays a major interaction in the reaction process, followed by intermolecular hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions.
