Abstract
PURPOSE To describe the ocular clinical characteristics of a group of Mexican patients with lamellar ichthyosis (LI) arising from TGM1 pathogenic variants. METHODS Ophthalmological exploration, pedigree analysis and genetic screening were performed in patients with an established clinical diagnosis of lamellar ichthyosis from families located in a small community in the Southeast of Mexico. RESULTS Nine patients with LI in five families were identified. There were six affected females. All patients (9/9) demonstrated eye lid abnormalities with eight patients showing lid margin abnormalities. Madarosis was present in only three individuals and corneal scarring was documented in two. All nine individuals carried biallelic TGM1 variants, either homozygously or as compound heterozygous. CONCLUSION Ocular anomalies are common in individuals with TGM1-related LI. The occurrence of a variety of private or rare mutations hampers the identification of a genotype-phenotype correlation for ocular anomalies in this disorder.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to describe ocular surface and anterior eye segment findings in various types of ichthyoses. METHODS This was a single-center prospective observational study. The study group consisted of five patients (P1-P5) aged 13-66 years. Multimodal imaging was performed, including slit-lamp examinations, swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT), and in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM). RESULTS All patients were diagnosed with moderate-to-severe dry eye disease (DED). The corneas showed a significant pattern of irregularity, with a significant difference between the corneal thickness at the apex (CAT) and the corneal thinnest thickness (CTT), exceeding 375 µm. Three patients were diagnosed with ectasia patterns based on SS-OCT. All patients showed abnormalities in at least one Fourier index parameter for at least one eye at 3 or 6 mm in the keratometric, anterior, or posterior analyses. IVCM examinations revealed changes in all corneal layers. CONCLUSIONS By combining the results of multimodal imaging, we were able to detect preclinical abnormalities, distinguish characteristic changes common to ichthyosis, and reveal the depth and characteristics of corneal abnormalities. Therefore, patients with ichthyosis should be examined for DED and ectatic disorders early in clinical practice.

Abstract
Harlequin ichthyosis (HI) is a severe and rare genetic anomaly that affects skin development and leads to the formation of thick, diamond-shaped plates of keratinized skin. The adenosine triphosphate binding cassette A 12 (ABCA12) gene, which is essential for the transportation of lipids required for the skin's barrier function, has mutations that result in this condition. The affected individuals exhibit distinct clinical features, including thickened skin, deep cracks, and fissures, which can result in significant physical and functional impairments. HI is usually apparent at birth, with affected infants presenting with tight and rigid skin that restricts movement and normal growth. The condition is associated with various complications, including difficulty breathing, feeding difficulties, and increased susceptibility to infections. Due to the impaired skin barrier, affected individuals are also prone to dehydration and temperature dysregulation. In this case report, we present a unique case of ichthyosis in a nine-month-old child. Despite advances in medical care, HI remains a challenging condition with a high mortality rate, particularly in the neonatal period. However, with early detection, appropriate interventions, and an improved understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms, there is hope for enhanced management and improved quality of life for individuals living with HI.

Abstract
Harlequin ichthyosis is a rare congenital autosomal recessive disorder that causes hyperkeratosis or plate-like keratosis. Hyperkeratosis affects both upper and lower eyelids and causes defective eyelids. Lagophthalmos and persistent dry eye will cause desiccation of the cornea, possibly leading to complications such as ectropion, cornea ulceration, corneal perforation, etc. Harlequin ichthyosis requires regular ocular review to prevent ocular complications. In this child, he was born with defective eyelids, but subsequent management prevented the complications mentioned. This is a case of harlequin ichthyosis in a neonate from an ophthalmological point of view.

Abstract
Ichthyosis vulgaris is an inherited, non-syndromic form of ichthyosis that presents with skin problems. Making up more than 95% cases of ichthyosis, ichthyosis vulgaris is caused by heterozygous loss-of-function mutation of the filaggrin gene, raising the fragility and permeability of the stratum corneum. It typically presents in infancy as xerosis, skin lesions, keratosis pilaris, palmoplantar hyper linearity, scaly dermatosis, and erythroderma, clearly identifiable by age 5. Although majority of patients have a normal lifespan, possible complications include a vitamin D deficiency and auditory problems due to scaling in the ears, besides a drop in quality of life due to dermatological changes. Urea-based creams with 10% urea, ceramides, and other ceramides are often the first line therapy in ichthyosis vulgaris. There is no known curative treatment for ichthyosis vulgaris, but lifelong treatment can alleviate the symptoms. Urea-based creams are highly therapeutic, whereas ammonium lactate 12% lotion with a physiological lipid-based repair cream can help with scaling and dryness. There is also evidence in favour of propylene glycol solutions. Risankizumab, an anti-interleukin-23 drug, and enhancement of natural moisturizing factors are also two highly promising solutions that require additional research. This review aims to provide updates on the manifestation, evaluation, and treatment of ichthyosis vulgaris.

Abstract
Harlequin ichthyosis is a rare and severe genetic skin disorder that occurs
within the developing foetus. Harlequin ichthyosis is the most severe and
devastating form of autosomal recessive congenital ichthyoses. It is caused by
mutations in the lipid transporter adenosine triphosphate binding cassette A 12.
Here, we reported a case of harlequin ichthyosis with no family history. No
abnormalities were detected in prenatal sonography. A 24-year-old pregnant woman
with premature rupture of membrane and labour pain was referred to a hospital in
Shoushtar city, Iran. The mother delivered a male baby with harlequin
ichthyosis. The infant baby died on the 5th day. Harlequin ichthyosis is
associated with adenosine triphosphate binding cassette A 12 gene mutation;
therefore, genetic screening and counselling for susceptible parents should be
taken into account. Prenatal diagnosis of harlequin ichthyosis principally via
sonographic techniques is important in managing the disorder.

Abstract
Harlequin ichthyosis (HI) is a life-threatening genetic disorder that largely affects the skin of infants. HI is the most severe form of the autosomal recessive disorder known as ichthyosis. It is caused by mutations in the A12 cassette (lipid-transporter adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette A12). Neonates affected by this disease are born with specific morphological characteristics, the most prominent of which is the appearance of platelet keratotic scales separated by erythematous fissures. The facial features include eclabium, ectropion, a distinct flattened nose, and dysplastic ears. A common finding among those with HI is impaired skin barrier function. The purpose of the present narrative review is to assess the most recent literature regarding the management of HI. Emphasis is given to surgical management and consultation, to the indications for timing and surgical intervention, to the risks that are presented with surgery, and to the details of the surgical procedure itself. Management of HI requires a multidisciplinary team of experts, and specific guidelines are needed in order for the risks to be minimized and viability to be increased.

Abstract
Skin and eyes share a common embryological origin from the embryonic surface ectoderm. Ocular manifestations in dermatological diseases are common and have diagnostic value. At present, there are a limited number of comprehensive reviews emphasizing the ocular manifestations of dermatological diseases. More than 40 published articles about ocular findings in dermatology were reviewed. The search included Pubmed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane databases from 2014 to 2019. This review was divided into three parts including: I. infectious and inflammatory disorders; II. genodermatoses; III. connective tissue, autoimmune, neoplasms, and drug-related disorders. We excluded metabolic, endocrine, and nutrition-related dermatological diseases. In this part, we summarized the most common and important ocular findings in dermatology-related genetic disorders with appropriate referral recommendations to ophthalmology.

Abstract
Ectropion is a rather frequent complication of ichthyosis with negative functional and esthetic impact. Lid surgery can provide significant improvement. We report on a series of four ichthyosis patients with ongoing bilateral eye problems despite intense medical treatment (mean age 27.8 ± 14.1 years). All patients suffered from lagophthalmos. Two of the patients had only lower lid ectropion. In two of the patients' ectropion was forming on the upper lid in addition to the lower lid when closing the eye. In three of four patients, ectropion was repaired by skin grafts from the supraclavicular region. In a child with lower and upper lid ectropion prepuce was used for repair surgery. At the end of the follow-up period of about 23.0 ± 12.7 months, none of the patients revealed lagophthalmos or corneal exposure. No intraoperative or postoperative complications have been observed in our patients. Ichthyosis patients with ectropion resistant to medical treatment, benefit from surgical treatment with full layer autografts. In boys, prepuce can be successfully used as autograft.

Abstract
SIGNIFICANCE Ichthyosis is a group of heterogenous inherited skin disorders characterized by abnormal cornification and keratinization of the skin. Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis presents with severe lagophthalmos and cicatricial ectropion of both upper and lower lids. Chronic corneal exposure from lid abnormalities may lead to ulcerative keratitis or corneal perforation. PURPOSE The case highlights a rarely seen condition that presents with potentially serious ocular complications and vision loss. Corneal complications may be avoided or managed with moisture goggles, corneal vaulting with scleral lenses, topical therapeutics, amniotic membrane, and surgical lid repair. CASE REPORT A 25-year-old woman presented with a painful right eye for 1 week. She had a medical history of autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis. Her ocular adnexa revealed bilateral lagophthalmos and cicatricial ectropion of both upper and lower lids. The slit lamp of examination revealed an injected eye with corneal ulcer with hypopyon in the right eye and quiet eye with corneal scarring in the left eye. The patient was treated with topical moxifloxacin and polymyxin B sulfate/trimethoprim as well as in-office homatropine 5% in the right eye. The keratitis was treated to resolution, and the patient referred for consultation on lid repair. CONCLUSIONS Chronic corneal exposure from autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis may lead to severe dry eye, ulcerative keratitis, or perforation. Patients should be monitored carefully for corneal disease, educated on methods and devices to protect the corneal surface, and referred for surgical repair if indicated. Although rare, this condition presents unique findings that may be visually devastating. Awareness of the condition, as well as the various clinical presentations and appropriate management necessary, will prove beneficial to the patient.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Glaucoma in patients with nonbullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (NBCIE) is a rare entity that has not been described in a histologically confirmed case. We present a unique case of coexisting glaucoma, ichthyosis, and dwarfism that has not been previously described. METHODS We present a case of NBCIE with glaucoma and dwarfism that presented to our outpatient department. The patient was referred for watering and photophobia that were due to an epithelial defect that was subsequently managed conservatively. Investigations revealed the existence of a constellation of findings that are presented here. RESULTS NBCIE, glaucoma, and dwarfism represent a spectrum of diseases that seem to have a syndromic association. More gene linkage-based analysis are, however, needed to further confirm our observations. CONCLUSIONS NBCIE, glaucoma, and dwarfism can often occur together and need to be assessed and managed individually. Early diagnosis of this spectrum can help improve patient management and quality of life. Dermatologists must get an ocular examination conducted for icthyoses patients.

Abstract
In this case report we highlight briefly the unique entities of Icthyosis, the commonest ophthalmological manifestation and the reported modalities of surgical therapy, which includes Mucous Membrane Graft (MMG). Up to our knowledge this is the first reported long term follow up of MMG offered for Ichthyosis-related cicatricial ectropion. Thus we believe that this case has a value in using MMG as the standard therapy for a generalized condition, which is not peculiar only to ophthalmologists.
Introduction Ichthyosis is a group of keratinizing diseases characterized by scaly and dry skin. One of the ocular complications associated with ichthyosis is cicatricial ectropion which often results in exposure keratopathy and eventually corneal scarring. Presentation of case In this report we are presenting a 21-year-old female who is known to have ichthyosis-related bilateral lower lid cicatricial ectropion, which was managed with Mucous Membrane Grafting (MMG) six years ago. Discussion Despite the serious complications of ichthyosis-related eyelid malposition such as cicatricial ectropion, until present no single way has been standardized to treat the ectropion in these patients. MMG has been previously described, but up to our knowledge this is the first reported long term follow up of MMG offered for ichthyosis-related cicatricial ectropion. Conclusion We strongly recommend MMG as a promising surgical treatment option offered for ichthyosis patients with cicatricial ectropion providing good outcome and acceptable cosmetic results.
