Abstract
Obesity is a worldwide epidemic, and bariatric surgery has become increasingly popular due to its effectiveness in treating it. Therefore, understanding this area is of paramount importance. This article aims to provide an understanding of the development of the topic related to procedures, content, data, and status. To achieve this objective, a literature review and a bibliometric analysis were conducted. The methods provided insight into the current state and relevant topics over time. In conclusion, the article provided the identification of the transformation of the research field, initially focused only on physical aspects, to a more complex approach, which also incorporates psychological and social aspects and the correlation between obesity, bariatric surgery, and quality of life.

Abstract
Skin manifestations and biophysical changes are observed in patients with morbid obesity. However, reports of changes after significant weight loss, particularly through post-bariatric surgery (BaS), are limited. The aim of this 2-year prospective study was to evaluate the prevalence of skin signs and their changes in patients with morbid obesity who underwent BaS. Thirty-one patients were recruited for the study, with a mean age of 38.35 (SD 10.61) years and a male preponderance (male = 19 [61.29%], female = 12 [38.71%]). Patients were scheduled for multiple visits at months 0, 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 post-BaS. Each subject had a thorough skin examination, biophysical measurements, and laboratory tests at each visit. Striae, acanthosis nigricans (AN), and plantar hyperkeratosis were the most common skin findings (n = 30 [96.77%], 29 [93.55%], 29 [93.55%], respectively). BaS provided improvements in many skin manifestations, namely striae, AN, acrochordons, plantar hyperkeratosis, hirsutism, lymphedema, pruritus, acne, finger pebbles, and chronic venous insufficiency with varied cumulative rates of improvements. However, acute telogen effluvium was observed in 17 (54.84%) patients. Regarding skin biophysical properties, transepidermal water loss, skin hydration, and pH did not change, while sebum production on the face significantly decreased at months 3 and 6, and elasticity decreased at months 6 and 24. In conclusion, weight reduction by BaS provided improvements in various skin signs, although telogen effluvium was a common sequelae.

Abstract
The BODY-Q is a patient-reported outcome measure designed to measure health-related quality of life, satisfaction with appearance and experience with healthcare in patients with obesity who undergo bariatric surgery and/or body contouring surgery after massive weight loss. The aim of this study is to collect long term PRO-data from patients living with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery, comparing patient undergoing or not undergoing body contouring surgery. This study will be a multicentre, prospective longitudinal cohort study with participation of three bariatric medical centres in the Netherlands. The BODY-Q will be used to measure the satisfaction with appearance and HRQL. Patients undergoing bariatric surgery, age >18 years and <65 years and who are able to read and understand Dutch can be included. All bariatric procedures are eligible for inclusion. Administration of the questionnaires will be done preoperatively for bariatric and body contouring surgery as well as at 3, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60 months post-operatively. Patient-reported outcomes measurements are becoming more important with the shift to patient-centred healthcare. The collected longitudinal data can be helpful in determining the effectiveness and value of bariatric and body contouring surgery from the patient's perspective, and can contribute to patient tailored postoperative care.

Abstract
Due to the increased prevalence of obesity in the last decades, bariatric surgery has been on the rise in recent years. Bariatric surgery is a compelling option for weight loss in obese patients with severe obesity-related comorbidities or for whom lifestyle modifications have proven ineffective. Redundant skin following significant weight loss is a common occurrence affecting up to 96% of patients who undergo bariatric surgery, negatively impacting physical and psychosocial health and detracting from activities of daily living. Statistics of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that 46,577 body contouring procedures were performed after massive weight loss in the USA in a 2020 report. Abdominoplasty, a well-established cosmetic surgery procedure for improving body contour, is performed by removing excess skin and fat from the abdominal wall and thereby restoring musculofascial integrity and skin elasticity, resulting in a more ideal body shape and increasing quality of life. Although abdominoplasty is a safe procedure, it has been associated with a higher complication rate compared with other body-contouring procedures. Technologic advances over the past decade have been developed as non-invasive alternatives or adjunctive tools to surgery to enhance cosmetic results and minimize complications. New energy-based technologies may supplant invasive surgery for mild to moderate skin laxity and/or diminish the extent of surgery and resulting scars. Plastic surgeons play a significant role in improving the quality of life of patients who suffer from obesity and underwent bariatric surgery. We are deeply convinced, however, that the advancement of knowledge and research in this field will determine the introduction of new technologies and custom-made techniques. This advancement will reduce the complication rate with a rapid reintegration of the patient into the world of work and resumption of daily activities.

Abstract
Many post-bariatric patients have impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL) due to excess skin following weight loss; however, it is inconclusive whether body contouring surgery (BCS) improves this impairment. We aimed to comprehensively summarize existing evidence of the effect of BCS on the HRQoL (primary outcome) and determine the prevalence of, the desire for, and barriers to BCS (secondary outcomes). Randomized controlled trials, cohort, cross-sectional, case-control, and longitudinal studies were systematically searched in PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central, and Web of Science. After screening 1923 potential records, 24 studies (representing 6867 participants) were deemed eligible. Only 18.5% of respondents from cross-sectional studies underwent BCS, with abdominal BCS as the most common procedure. Most participants desired BCS but listed "cost" and "lacking reimbursement" as the main barriers. Results suggest that most post-bariatric patients who underwent BCS experienced improvements in their HRQoL, which could be seen in almost every dimension evaluated, including body image and physical and psychosocial functions. Therefore, both bariatric and plastic surgeons should regard BCS not only as an aesthetic supplement but also as a vital part of functional recovery in the surgery-mediated weight loss journey and, thus, provide it to more post-bariatric patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of mortality in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Better interventions are needed to mitigate the high lifetime risk for CVD in youth T2D. OBJECTIVE To compare 30-year risk for CVD events in 2 cohorts of adolescents with T2D and severe obesity undergoing medical or surgical treatment of T2D. SETTING Longitudinal multicenter studies at University hospitals. METHODS A secondary analysis of data collected from the participants with T2D enrolled in the Teen-Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (Teen-LABS, n = 30) and participants of similar age and racial distribution from the Treatment Options of Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY, n = 63) studies was performed. Teen-LABS participants underwent metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS). TODAY participants were randomized to metformin alone or in combination with rosiglitazone or intensive lifestyle intervention, with insulin therapy given for glycemic progression. A 30-year CVD event score developed by the Framingham Heart Study was the primary outcome, assessed at baseline (preoperatively for Teen-LABS), 1 year, and 5 years of follow-up. RESULTS Participants with T2D from Teen-LABS (n = 30; mean ± SD age = 16.9 ± 1.3 yr; 70% female; 60% white; body mass index (BMI) = 54.4 ± 9.5 kg/m2) and TODAY (n = 63; 15.3 ± 1.3 yr; 56% female; 71% white; BMI 40.5 ± 4.9 kg/m2) were compared. The likelihood of CVD events was higher in Teen-LABS versus TODAY at baseline (17.66 [1.59] versus 12.11 [.79]%, adjusted P = .002). One year after MBS, event risk was significantly lower in Teen-LABS versus TODAY (6.79 [1.33] versus 13.64 [0.96]%, adjusted P < .0001), and sustained at 5 years follow-up (adjusted P < .0001). CONCLUSION Despite higher pretreatment risk for CVD events, treatment with MBS resulted in a reduction in estimated CVD event risks, whereas medical therapy associated with an increase in risk among adolescents with T2D and severe obesity.
