Stochastic dynamic mass spectrometric quantification of steroids in mixture - Part II

This paper deals with quantification of the following steroids in mixture: hydrocortisone (1), deoxycorticosterone (2), progesterone (3) and methyltestosterone (4) by means of mass spectrometry and implementing our innovative stochatic dynamic functional relationship between the analyte concentration in solution and the experimental variable intensity. The mass spectrometric data are correlated independently using chromatography. Chemometric analysis is carried out.

Biotransformation of progesterone and testosterone enanthate by Circinella muscae

In this study, the biotransformation of progesterone (1) and testosterone enanthate (5) using the whole cells of Circinella muscae was investigated for the first time. Microbial transformation of 1 with C. muscae afforded three known metabolites including 9α-hydroxyprogesterone (2), 14α-hydroxyprogesterone (3) and 6β,14α dihydroxyprogesterone (4) after 6 days of incubation at 26 °C. The biotransformation of 5 with C. muscae yielded a new metabolite; 8β,14α-dihydroxytestosterone (8), in addition to two known metabolites; 6β-hydroxytestosterone (6), and 9α-hydroxytestosterone (7). The structure of the metabolites were established on the basis of spectroscopic data.

Biotransformation of Testosterone by Ulocladium Chartarum Mrc 72584

The incubation of testosterone 1 with Ulocladium chartarum MRC 72584 has been reported. U. chartarum MRC 72584 hydroxylated testosterone 1 at C-7β, C-6β, C-14α and C-12β, accompanied by a 5α-reduction and oxidations at C-6 and at C-17.

Tryptophan oxidative metabolism catalyzed by geobacillus stearothermophilus: a thermophile isolated from kuwait soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons

Tryptophan metabolism has been extensively studied in humans as well as in soil. Its metabolism takes place mainly through kynurenine pathway yielding hydroxylated, deaminated and many other products of physiological significance. However, tryptophan metabolism has not been studied in an isolated thermophilic bacterium. Geobacillus stearothermophilus is a local thermophile isolated from Kuwait desert soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons. The bacterium grows well at 65 °C in 0.05 M phosphate buffer (pH 7), when supplied with organic compounds as a carbon source and has a good potential for transformation of steroids and related molecules. In the present study, we used tryptophan ethyl ester as a carbon source for the bacterium to study the catabolism of the amino acid at pH 5 and pH 7. In this endeavor, we have resolved twenty one transformation products of tryptophan by GC/LC and have identified them through their mass spectral fragmentation.
