Abstract
A rapid multi-residue LC-MS/MS method for the identification and determination of banned veterinary drugs in honey was developed. A total of 31 investigated veterinary drugs belonging to 4 classes including nitrofurans metabolites, nitroimidazoles, amphenicols, and quinolones were quantified by LC-MS/MS with ESI using one single injection. The sample preparation included treatment with 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde (5-NFA) in a thermostated ultrasonic bath (80 °C, 0.5М НСl, 20 min) to liberate matrix-bound residues of nitrofurans. Magnetic hypercrosslinked polystyrene (HCP/Fe3O4) was proposed for the solid-phase extraction and clean-up of target analytes prior to LC-MS/MS analysis. To evaluate and validate the performance of method, the criteria of the Decision (EC) no 2002/657 were applied. The LOQs of the examined analytes range from 0.3 to 1 μg kg-1, which indicates good sensitivity to quantify the target compounds in honey. The recoveries of veterinary drugs from 1 g of honey with 50 mg of the sorbent are 97-109% for nitrofuran metabolites, 84-115% for nitroimidazoles, 86-103% for amphenicols, and 97-118% for quinolones. The relative standard deviations of intra-day and inter-day precision analyses (RSD) are less than 16%. This methodology was applied to real honey samples and trace levels of some veterinary drugs were detected.

Triblock copolymer–grafted restricted access materials with zwitterionic polymer outer layers for highly efficient extraction of fluoroquinolones and exclusion of proteins. Abstract
High-selectivity and high-exclusion restricted access materials (RAMs) benefit the analysis of biological samples. Herein, triblock copolymer-functionalized poly(4-vinylbenzyl chloride-co-divinylbenzene) (PVBC/DVB) microspheres were prepared via the sequential surface-initiated atom radical polymerization of hydrophobic styrene (St), ionic vinylimidazole (VIm), and zwitterionic sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA), affording RAMs with multiple interaction-adsorption sites and zwitterionic polymer exclusion sites on the internal and external surfaces of PVBC/DVB. The preferential extraction of fluoroquinolones (FQs) is realized based on the hydrophobic/π-π/ion exchange interactions due to the grafted poly-St-VIm, and the zwitterionic poly-SBMA block in the triblock copolymers can efficiently exclude various proteins. A sensitive detection method for FQs in chicken was established by solid phase extraction with RAMs as adsorbent combined with UPLC-MS/MS, achieving wide linearity (2.0-200.0 ng mL-1), low limit of detection (0.5 μg kg-1) and limit of quantification (1.5 μg kg-1), and good inter- and intraday precision with satisfactory recoveries (104.1%-117.7% and 115.3%-121.2% with RSDs < 12%).

Abstract
A novel sorbent Cu-S metal-organic framework (MOF) microrods was prepared for dispersive solid-phase extraction via microwave synthesis and used to determine 12 fluoroquinolones (FQs) in honey samples employing ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). The best extraction efficiency was achieved by optimizing sample pH, sorbent quantity, eluent type/volume, and extraction and elution time. The proposed MOF exhibits advantages such as rapid synthesis time (20 min) and outstanding adsorption ability toward zwitterionic FQs. These advantages can be attributed to multiple interactions, including hydrogen bonding, π-π interaction, and hydrophobic interaction. The limits of detection of analytes were 0.005-0.045 ng g-1. Acceptable recoveries (79.3%-95.6%) were obtained under the optimal conditions. Precision (relative standard deviation, RSD) was <9.2%. These results demonstrate the utility of our sample preparation method and the high capacity of Cu-S MOF microrods for rapid and selective extraction of FQs from honey samples.

Contaminant Cocktails of High Concern in Honey: Challenges, QuEChERS Extraction and Levels. SEPARATIONS 2023. [DOI: 10.3390/separations10020142] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 02/22/2023] Open
Abstract
Environmental pollution is a crucial problem in our society, having nowadays a better understanding of its consequences, which include the increase of contaminant cocktails present in the environment. The contamination of honeybees can occur through their interaction with the nearby environment. Therefore, if honeybees are previously contaminated, there is a possibility of contamination of their products, such as honey as natural, or minimally processed, product, resulting from the honeybees’ activity. Considering that honey is a highly consumed product, it is extremely necessary to control its quality and safety, including evaluating the presence and quantification of contaminants, which should follow monitoring studies and the legislation established by the European Union. This work aims to review the literature of different contaminants reported on honey, including pesticides, persistent organic pollutants, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and pharmaceuticals, focusing on the reports using the QuEChERS technique for the extraction. Furthermore, reports of microplastics on honey samples were also discussed. Despite the existence of several methods that identify and quantify these contaminants, few methods have been reported to operate with different groups of contaminants simultaneously. The development of methods with this characteristic (while being fast, low cost, and with a lower impact on the environment), monitoring studies to identify the risks, and an update on legislation are priority actions and future perspectives to follow.

Abstract
A modified QuEChERS method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of tylosin (Tyl) and metronidazole (MNZ) residues in shrimp samples using LC-ESI-MS/MS. The sample extraction procedure was based on modified QuEChERS, and the cleanup method was dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE). Octadecyl (C18) and primary secondary amine (PSA) sorbents were used in the dSPE cleanup. Analyte chromatographic separations were carried out using a ZORBAX RRHD Eclipse Plus C18 (100 × 2.1 mm, particle size 1.8 μm) column. The mobile phase consisted of dilluting 0.1% of formic acid with water and acetonitrile. The analyte was identified with multiple reaction monitoring and positive electrospray ionization. The analyte showed good linearity in the range of 0.5–50 μg/L for both analytes, and correlation coefficients (R2) were 0.9997 and 0.9998 for Tyl and MNZ, respectively. For the recovery study, three different concentration levels were spiked in triplicate. The recovery obtained a good result in the range of 81–85 % for Tyl with relative standard deviation (RSD) ≤ ± 4.9% and in the range of 85–88% for MNZ with RSD ≤ ± 4.07 %. The limit of detection (LOD) was estimated at 0.4 μg/kg for Tyl and 0.3 μg/kg for MNZ, and the limit of quantification (LOQ) was estimated at 1 μg/kg for Tyl and 0.9 μg/kg for MNZ. The linearity and recovery study showed that the method is validated and can be used to determine the Tyl and MNZ residues in shrimp. Finally, the method was applied to 25 real samples, which were collected from local markets and super shops in Dhaka and Khulna districts of Bangladesh, and only traces of Tyl were detected in one sample. This method is suitable for the regular analysis of Tyl and MNZ antibiotic residues in shrimp samples and can be used to ensure food safety in Bangladesh.

Abstract
A green, fast, and efficient pH-induced natural deep eutectic solvent combined with vortex-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction method (pH-NADES-VA-DLLME) followed by HPLC was established for determination of ofloxacin (OFL), ciprofloxacin (CIP) and enrofloxacin (ENR) in honey. In this method, NaOH, as an emulsifier, can increase the contact area between the NADES and the sample solution, which can efficiently improve the extraction efficiency of the analytes. Moreover, HCl acts as the phase separation agent without centrifugation in the process, which can greatly enhance the efficiency of the sample analysis process. In addition, the main factors affecting the extraction effect were optimized by single factor experiments. Under the optimal conditions, the limits of detection (LODs), the limits of quantification (LOQs) and recoveries were in the range of 0.004-0.015 μg mL-1, 0.012-0.050 μg mL-1, and 98.0-112.5%, respectively. The RSD values of intra-day and inter-day precisions were no more than 5.5% and 6.0%, respectively. The developed method was successfully applied to determine the three quinolone antibiotics in honey.

Abstract
In this study, a packed-fiber solid-phase extraction (PFSPE)-based method was developed to simultaneously detect nine quinolones, including enrofloxacin (ENR), ciprofloxacin (CIP), ofloxacin (OFL), pefloxacin (PEF), lomefloxacin (LOM), norfloxacin (NOR), sarafloxacin (SAR), danofloxacin (DAN), and difloxacin (DIF), in pure milk, using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). Polystyrene (PS) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) were combined to form PS-PAN composite nanofibers through electrospinning. The nanofibers were used to prepare the home-made extraction columns, and the process was optimized and validated using blank pure milk. The analytical method showed high accuracy, and the recoveries were 88.68–97.63%. Intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations were in the ranges of 1.11–6.77% and 2.26–7.17%, respectively. In addition, the developed method showed good linearity (R2 ≥ 0.995) and low method quantification limits for the nine quinolones (between 1.0–100 ng/mL) for all samples studied. The nine quinolones in the complex matrix were directly extracted using 4.0 mg of PS-PAN composite nanofibers as a sorbent and completely eluted in 100 μL elution solvent. Therefore, the developed PFSPE-HPLC-MS/MS is a sensitive and cost-effective technique that can effectively detect and control nine quinolones in dairy products.

Abstract
We develop and validate a method for the rapid determination and identification of 19 quinolones in goat's milk by combining the QuEChERS technique with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Plackett-Burman and Central Composite Design methods were used to select the parameters that best promote the extraction efficiency, which led to extraction with acetonitrile/5% formic acid, followed by phase separation with sodium citrate, disodium hydrogen citrate, Na2SO4, and NaCl as optimal. The supernatant was then extracted and cleaned by dispersive solid-phase extraction using C18 and Na2SO4 aided by low-temperature clean-up. The method was validated, with limits of quantification (LOQs) of 5 ppb, specificities of 1/5 LOQ, linearities (R2) > 0.9853, recoveries of 73.4-114.2%, repeatabilities < 15.0%, and intermediate precisions < 13.6%. The developed method was suitable for the routine analysis of quinolone residues in goat's milk and was used to test 10 goat milk samples produced in Taiwan.

Abstract
Antibiotic usage for beekeeping, including quinolones, can lead to residues in honey and these residues usually result from the drugs used in the treatment of American or European foulbrood diseases. Residues in honey may cause allergic reactions as well as increased antibiotic resistance. Within this study, rapid and breakthrough analysis methods were developed using UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS and sample preparation processes were minimised. Practical, low cost, time-effective analysis was provided utilising 'dilute & shoot' methodology and a QuEChERS-based procedure has been developed alternatively for improved sensitivity. Recovery values were 85%-112% for the 'dilute & shoot' method, and 82%-117% for the modified QuEChERS method. For accuracy studies, RSD% values were between 0.7% and 13.4% for both methods in intra-day and inter-day precision studies. CCα (1.1 μg/kg and 0.6 μg/kg) and CCβ (1.2 μg/kg and 0.6 μg/kg) mean values were calculated for the 'dilute & shoot' and QuEChERS method, respectively. These novel methods achieved simultaneous quantification of 21 quinolones in 7 min with high specificity and were used to analyse 50 honey samples. Quinolone residues were found in samples, and enrofloxacin, danofloxacin, pipemidic acid, lomefloxacin, cinoxacin, and ciprofloxacin were quantified.

Abstract
The present work firstly described the enantioseparation and determination of flumequine enantiomers in milk, yogurt, chicken, beef, egg, and honey samples by chiral liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The enantioseparation was performed under reversed-phase conditions on a Chiralpak IC column at 20°C. The effects of chiral stationary phase, mobile phase components, and column temperature on the separation of flumequine enantiomers have been studied in detail. Target compounds were extracted from six different matrices with individual extraction procedure followed by cleanup using Cleanert C18 solid phase extraction cartridge. Good linearity (R2 >0.9913) was obtained over the concentration range of 0.125 to 12.5 ng g-1 for each enantiomer in matrix-matched standard calibration curves. The limits of detection and limits of quantification of two flumequine enantiomers were 0.015-0.024 and 0.045-0.063 ng g-1 , respectively. The average recoveries of the targeted compounds varied from 82.3 to 110.5%, with relative standard deviation less than 11.7%. The method was successfully applied to the determination of flumequine enantiomers in multiple food matrices, providing a reliable method for evaluating the potential risk in animal productions.

Abstract
In this study, a new metal-organic framework-monolith composite for in-tube solid phase microextraction phase (IT-SPME) of fluoroquinolones (FQs) was prepared. 4-Vinylbenzoic acid was copolymerized with ethylenedimethacrylate in a fused silica capillary to form porous monolith. After that, zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8) were synthesized in situ within the pores and the surface of the monolith by controlled layer-by-layer self-assembly of Zn2+ and imidazole. The introduction of ZIF-8 enhanced the surface area of monolith composite, and thus, improving the extraction performance of IT-SPME for FQs obviously. Under the optimized conditions, a highly sensitive method for the monitoring of FQs residue in water and honey samples was developed by the on-line combination of IT-SPME with high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD). The limits of detection (S/N = 3) for the targeted FQs in water and honey samples were as low as 0.14-0.61 ng/L and 0.39-1.1 ng/L, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for intra-day and inter-day assay variability were less than 10% in all samples. The established on-line IT-SPME-HPLC-FLD was successfully used to detect ultra-trace FQs in environmental water and honey samples. Recoveries at different spiked concentrations ranged from 80.1% to 119% and 80.2-117% for water and honey samples, respectively, with satisfactory reproducibility. Compared to up-to-date reported methods, the proposed approach exhibits some features such as high sensitivity, convenience, partial automation, low consumptions of sample and solvent.

Abstract
Demand for honey is increasing, especially if it is organic and if its nutritional properties are linked to untreated environments in order to guarantee quality for health. Sources of contamination of honey can be divided into environmental and apicultural. Therefore, the distribution of persistent organic pollutants, pesticides and antibiotic residues from geographical areas with different contamination sources (high anthropic impact, intensive farming, husbandry and low anthropic impact) was investigated in order to confirm the potential transfer of xenobiotics into the supply chain and to give beekeepers tools for the selection of areas dedicated to organic production. The presence of polychlorinated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ether and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was confirmed, not only in proximity to highly urbanised centres, where the concentrations were higher, but in all environment contexts, confirming their ubiquity. No antibiotics or neonicotinoids were detected in 95 organic honeys, demonstrating the absence of apicultural treatments and consequently the good quality of honey of different areas. These results are important due to the undefined regulatory European situation on honey antibiotic limits.

Abstract
Antibiotics have been beneficial for human and animal health. However, an excessive use in livestock and a deficient management of the carcasses can lead to adverse effects in the scavengers that ingest them, especially in "supplementary feeding sites" (SFS). The aim of this study was to assess the potential risk of exposure to antibiotics for an endangered population of Cinereous vultures (Aegypius monachus) from southeastern Portugal. Hence, a multi-residue method based on QuEChERs was adapted and validated to analyse, in small volumes of tissues, the most frequent antibiotics used in livestock. The method was applied to 87 samples of liver, muscle and kidney from 7 goats and 25 sheep disposed in SFS. According to questionnaires to farmers, the animals had not been treated with antibiotics, but analyses showed residues in 29% of the samples. Antibiotics were more frequent in goats (42.9%) than in sheep (24.2%), and oxytetracycline and trimethoprim were the most common (both 13.8%). Oxytetracycline, the most common antibiotic for livestock in Portugal, showed the highest concentration (1452.68 ng g-1). To our knowledge, this is the first study of presence of antibiotics in carrion from SFS. The concentrations of antibiotics in carrion do not seem to pose a risk of acute intoxication for adult Cinereous vultures. However, subtle and likely chronic exposure with unknown health consequences may occur, which requires more research. Moreover, the results of this first study can be used in future studies to assess the risk for avian scavengers.

Abstract
In this study, the strategy of unique adsorbent combined with isotope labeled internal standards was used to significantly reduce the matrix effect for the enrichment and analysis of nine fluoroquinolones in a complex sample by liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole linear ion trap mass spectrometry (LC-QqQLIT-MS/MS). The adsorbent was prepared conveniently by functionalizing Fe3O4@SiO2 microspheres with phenyl and tetrazolyl groups, which could adsorb fluoroquinolones selectively via hydrophobic, electrostatic, and π-π interactions. The established magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) method as well as using stable isotope labeled internal standards in the next MS/MS detection was able to reduce the matrix effect significantly. In the process of LC-QqQLIT-MS/MS analysis, the precursor and product ions of the analytes were monitored quantitatively and qualitatively on a QTrap system equipped simultaneously with the multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) and enhanced product ion (EPI) scan. Subsequently, the enrichment method combined with LC-QqQLIT-MS/MS demonstrated good analytical features in terms of linearity (7.5-100.0 ng mL-1, r > 0.9960), satisfactory recoveries (88.6%-118.3%) with RSDs < 12.0%, LODs = 0.5 μg kg-1 and LOQs = 1.5 μg kg-1 for all tested analytes. Finally, the developed MSPE-LC-QqQLIT-MS/MS method had been successfully applied to real pork samples for food-safety risk monitoring in Ningxia Province, China. Abstract
To achieve analytical success, it is necessary to develop thorough clean-up procedures to extract analytes from the matrix. Dispersive solid phase extraction (DSPE) has been used as a pretreatment technique for the analysis of several compounds. This technique is based on the dispersion of a solid sorbent in liquid samples in the extraction isolation and clean-up of different analytes from complex matrices. DSPE has found a wide range of applications in several fields, and it is considered to be a selective, robust, and versatile technique. The applications of dispersive techniques in the analysis of veterinary drugs in different matrices involve magnetic sorbents, molecularly imprinted polymers, carbon-based nanomaterials, and the Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe (QuEChERS) method. Techniques based on DSPE permit minimization of additional steps such as precipitation, centrifugation, and filtration, which decreases the manipulation of the sample. In this review, we describe the main procedures used for synthesis, characterization, and application of this pretreatment technique and how it has been applied to food analysis.

Abstract
This paper presents a study on the transfer and metabolism of triadimefon residues from rape flowers to apicultural products. In the field trials, honeybee colonies were placed in four rape greenhouses treated with triadimefon on standard dosage. Apicultural products (pollen, honey, and royal jelly) were collected on a regular basis. Sample preparation and extraction procedure were established. HPLC/ESI-MS/MS method was validated. The respective residues of triadimefon and metabolite triadimenol were 0.03 ± 0.002 mg/kg and 0.13 ± 0.02 mg/kg in pollen on the 18th day, and both had reached the limits of detection in honey on the 24th day, while they were 0.004 ± 0.0005 mg/kg and 0.010 ± 0.0002 mg/kg in royal jelly on the 22nd day. Mathematical curve fitting studies were further investigated. On the basis of recommended dosage, the degradation half-lives of triadimefon in pollen, honey, and royal jelly were about 0.7, 12.5, and 19.5 days, respectively. Transfer of triadimefon residues from rape flowers to apicultural products diminished over spraying time. The residues of triadimefon and metabolite triadimenol in pollen were about 10 times higher than those in honey and jelly. Time to attain the maximum permissible limit of pollen in the European Union was 14.9 days, predicted from the index function.

Abstract
Carbendazim is usually used to control the Sclerotinia sclerotiorum of rapes during the flowering period. This paper presents a study on transfer assessment of carbendazim residues from rape flowers to apicultural products. In the field trials, the rapes were sprayed with carbendazim on standard dosage. Bees produced apicultural products (bee pollen, honey, and royal jelly) from sprayed rapes. Apicultural products were collected on a regular basis. Carbendazim residues were extracted from bee pollen, honey, and royal jelly, respectively. HPLC/ESI-MS/MS method was developed and partially validated to identify and quantify carbendazim residues. The limits of quantification in pollen, honey, and royal jelly were 0.01 mg/kg. Mathematical curve fitting was carried out on the basis of transfer assessment of carbendazim residues from rape flowers to apicultural products. The respective carbendazim residues were 1.10 ± 0.03 mg/kg in pollen on 18th day, 0.032 ± 0.001 mg/kg in honey on 24th day, and 0.077 ± 0.002 mg/kg in royal jelly on 22nd day. Transfer assessment and mathematical curve fitting of carbendazim residues from rape flowers to apicultural products show carbendazim diminished over spraying time. The gap of carbendazim residues between pollen and honey is decreased with time. The carbendazim residues in pollen are 10 times higher than that of honey and jelly.

Abstract
A simple and efficient method for determining multiple mycotoxins was developed using a QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe)-based extraction procedure in vegetable oils. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was used for the quantification and confirmation of 16 chemically diversified mycotoxins. Different extraction procedures were studied and optimised by spiking 16 analytes into blank matrix, and the extraction with 85% MeCN solution and C18 as cleaning sorbent allowed an efficient recovery of 72.8-105.8% with RSDs less than 7%. The limit of detection (LOD) ranged from 0.04 to 2.9 ng g-1. The developed method was finally applied to screen mycotoxins in 62 vegetable oil samples. Zearalenone (ZEN), aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), aflatoxin B2 (AFB2), aflatoxin G1 (AFG1) and α-zearalenol (α-ZOL) were detected, with maximum concentrations of 0.59 (AFG1)-42.5 (ZEN) ng g-1. The method developed has the advantages of high sensitivity, accuracy and selectivity, and it can be applied to the target screening of mycotoxins in real samples.

Abstract
In the present study, a new multiple monolithic fiber solid-phase microextraction (MMF-SPME) based on poly(apronal-co-divinylbenzene/ethylenedimethacrylate) monolith (APDE) was synthesized. The effect of the preparation parameters of APED on extraction efficiency was studied thoroughly. The combination of APDE/MMF-SPME with high-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry detection (HPLC/MS-MS) was developed for sensitive monitoring of ultratrace fluoroquinolones (FQs) in foodstuffs, including milk and honey samples. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the limits of detection (S/N = 3) for the targeted FQs ranged from 0.0019 to 0.018 μg/kg in milk and 0.0010 to 0.0028 μg/kg in honey. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for method reproducibility were less than 9% in all samples. The established method was successfully applied for the monitoring of FQs residues in milk and honey samples with the recoveries between 74.5% and 116% (RSDs were in the range 0.9-9.5%). In comparison to previous methods, the developed APDE/MMF-SPME-HPLC/MS-MS showed some merits, including satisfactory sensitivity, simplicity, high cost-effectiveness, and low consumption of organic solvent.

Abstract
A simple and sensitive analytical method for quantitative analysis of 10 mycotoxins was developed and validated by a combination of modified QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) procedure with ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Sample preparation involved QuEChERS with dispersive solid phase extraction for clean-up, and analysis was performed by reversed-phase UHPLC-MS/MS using electrospray negative ionization and multiple reaction monitoring. Under optimized conditions, the calibration curves displayed good linear relationships with all coefficients of determinations (r2 ) higher than 0.998. The limits of quantification for all target mycotoxins were lower than 7 μg/kg. Trueness and precision for the analytes were 70% to 116% average recoveries and 2% to 13% relative standard deviations (RSDs). The validated method was used to analyze 46 wheat flour samples for the targeted mycotoxins. The method can be used as a rapid and robust tool for screening mycotoxin in cereal products.

Abstract
In this study, a reliable and fast method using a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) extraction procedure without any clean-up step was developed for simultaneous extraction of 15 mycotoxins, i.e., aflatoxin B1, aflatoxin B2, aflatoxin G1, aflatoxin G2, aflatoxin M1, aflatoxin M2, deoxynivalenol, 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, de-epoxy-DON, zearalenone, α-zearalenol, β-zearalenol, α-zearalanol, and β-zearalanol, from eggs. High-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry was used to separate and detect all of the analytes. Electrospray ionization at both negative and positive modes and multiple reaction-monitoring mode were applied to detect these analytes. The main factors, such as extraction time, extraction solvent, evaporation temperature, and pH of the solvent, were carefully optimized to improve the extraction efficiency. The coefficients of determination of the calibration curves ranged from 0.9884 to 0.9998. The recoveries of most of the analytes were between 71.3% and 105.4% at three concentration levels, except for AFB1 that showed recovery rates of not more than 67.5% in all concentrations. The repeatability and intra-lab reproducibility of this method were both lower than 15% and 25%, respectively. The limit of quantification ranged from 0.2 μg/kg to 5 μg/kg. The matrix effect was evaluated and reduced by the use of matrix-matched calibration curves. The validated method was applied in a pilot study to analyze mycotoxin contamination in 12 eggs, and trace amounts of deoxynivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, aflatoxin B1, aflatoxin G2, zearalenone and β-zearalenol were detected in these samples.

Abstract
Organic fertilizer or manure containing antibiotics has been widely used in organic farms, but the distribution and potential impacts of antibiotics to the local environment are not well understood. In this study, four quinolone antibiotics in soil samples (n=69) from five organic vegetable farms in a subtropical city, Southern China, were analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Our results indicated that quinolone compounds were ubiquitous in soil samples (detection frequency>97% for all compounds), and their concentrations ranged from not detectable to 42.0 μg/kg. Among the targets, enrofloxacin (ENR) was the dominant compound, followed by ciprofloxacin (CIP) and norfloxacin (NOR). The average total concentrations of four compounds in the soils were affected by vegetable types and species cultivated, decreasing in the order of fruit>rhizome>leaf vegetables. Moreover, the average concentrations of quinolone compounds (except ENR) in open-field soils were higher than those in greenhouse soils. The concentrations of quinolone antibiotics in this study were lower than the ecotoxic effect trigger value (100 μg/kg) proposed by the Veterinary Medicine International Coordination commission. Risk assessment based on the calculated risk quotients indicated that NOR, CIP, and ENR posed mainly medium to low risks to bacteria.
