Green synthesized nickel nanoparticles modified electrode in ionic liquid medium and its application towards determination of biomolecules

Fabrication of High-Performance Asymmetric Supercapacitor Consists of Nickel Oxide and Activated Carbon (NiO//AC)

Exploring faster, safer, and more efficient energy storage devices will motivate scientists to develop novel energy storage products with high performance. Herein, we report porous NiO nanoparticles have been prepared by a simple hydrothermal method with CTAB and laboratory tissue paper as a template followed by calcination at three different temperatures (300, 500, and 700 °C). The electrochemical characteristics of the prepared materials were examined in a three-electrode cell configuration using aqueous potassium hydroxide (2.0 M KOH) electrolyte. The NiO-300 electrode displayed the supreme capacitance of 568.7 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1. The fascinating NiO morphology demonstrates a crucial part in offering simple ion transport, shortening electron, and ion passage channels and rich energetic spots for electrochemical reactions. Finally, the asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC), NiO//AC was constructed using positive and negative electrode materials of NiO-300 and activated carbon (AC), respectively. The assembled ASC displayed excellent supercapacitive performance with a high specific energy (52.4 Wh kg−1), specific power (800 W kg−1), and remarkable cycle life. After quick charging (25 s), such supercapacitors in the series will illuminate the light emitting diode for an extended time, suggesting improvements in energy storage, scalable integrated applications, and ensuring business efficacy. This work will lead to a new generation of high-performance ASCs to portable electronic displays and electric automobiles.

Progress of Advanced Nanomaterials in the Non-Enzymatic Electrochemical Sensing of Glucose and H2O2

Non-enzymatic sensing has been in the research limelight, and most sensors based on nanomaterials are designed to detect single analytes. The simultaneous detection of analytes that together exist in biological organisms necessitates the development of effective and efficient non-enzymatic electrodes in sensing. In this regard, the development of sensing elements for detecting glucose and hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) is significant. Non-enzymatic sensing is more economical and has a longer lifetime than enzymatic electrochemical sensing, but it has several drawbacks, such as high working potential, slow electrode kinetics, poisoning from intermediate species and weak sensing parameters. We comprehensively review the recent developments in non-enzymatic glucose and H₂O₂ (NEGH) sensing by focusing mainly on the sensing performance, electro catalytic mechanism, morphology and design of electrode materials. Various types of nanomaterials with metal/metal oxides and hybrid metallic nanocomposites are discussed. A comparison of glucose and H₂O₂ sensing parameters using the same electrode materials is outlined to predict the efficient sensing performance of advanced nanomaterials. Recent innovative approaches to improve the NEGH sensitivity, selectivity and stability in real-time applications are critically discussed, which have not been sufficiently addressed in the previous reviews. Finally, the challenges, future trends, and prospects associated with advanced nanomaterials for NEGH sensing are considered. We believe this article will help to understand the selection of advanced materials for dual/multi non-enzymatic sensing issues and will also be beneficial for researchers to make breakthrough progress in the area of non-enzymatic sensing of dual/multi biomolecules.

Nickel-Graphene Nanoplatelet Deposited on Carbon Fiber as Binder-Free Electrode for Electrochemical Supercapacitor Application

A binder-free process for the electrode preparation for supercapacitor application was suggested by drop casting graphene nanoplatelets on a carbon fiber (GnP@CF) followed by electrodeposition of Ni nanoparticles (NPs). The microstructure of the electrode showed that Ni was homogeneously distributed over the surface of the GnP@CF. XRD analysis confirmed the cubic structure of metallic Ni NPs. The Ni-GnP@CF electrode showed excellent pseudocapacitive behavior in alkaline solution by exhibiting a specific capacitance of 480 F/g at 1.0 A/g, while it was 375 F/g for Ni@CF. The low value of series resistance of Ni-GnP@CF (1 Ω) was attributed to the high capacitance. The enhanced capacitance of the electrode could be correlated to the highly nanoporous structure of the composite material, synergetic effect of the electrical double layer charge-storage properties of graphene, and the pseudocapacitive nature of Ni NPs.

Investigating the prospects of bacterial biosurfactants for metal nanoparticle synthesis - a comprehensive review

Establishing biological synthesis of nanoparticles is increasing nowadays in the field of nanotechnology. The search for an optimal source with durability, stability, capacity to withstand higher environmental conditions with excellent characteristics is yet to meet. Consequently, there is need to create an eco-friendly strategy for metal nanoparticle synthesis. One approach investigated in this review is the use of biosurfactants to enhance the synthesis biologically. In comparison with the other technologies, biosurfactants are less toxic and exhibit higher properties. This method is different from the conventional practice like physical and chemical methods. Several research studies represented that the biosurfactant influences the production of nanoparticles about 2-50 nm. In this manner, the research towards the biosurfactant has raised. This review also addressed the feasibility of biosurfactant and their benefits in the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles. The findings from this review can recommend a conceivable use of biosurfactant as a source for metal nanoparticle synthesis.

Enzyme-free selective determination of H2O2 and glucose using functionalized CuNP-modified graphite electrode in room temperature ionic liquid medium

The proposed method demonstrates a new PCFCuNP modified electrode using ionic liquid as a green electrolyte. This method also achieved highly sensitive and selective determination towards H₂O₂ and glucose.
