Abstract
Three coordination polymers (CPs 1-3) are prepared based on diverse electron-donating properties and coordination arrangements of conjugated ligands. Interestingly, this is also reflected in their photophysical properties. The distinguishable high emissive nature of the luminescent coordination polymer shows its potentiality toward the detection of the perilous substance 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) or picric acid (PA). TNP has a higher propensity among explosive nitroaromatic compounds (epNACs) due to its significant π···π interaction with the free benzene moieties present in the CPs. Among CPs 1-3, 2 exhibits the highest sensitivity and selectivity toward TNP because of the most favorable π-π stacking with the conjugated organic linker. The calculated limit of detection (LOD) and corresponding quenching constant (KSV) from the Stern-Volmer (SV) plot for 1, 2, and 3 are found to be 0.68 μM and 7.49 × 104 M-1, 0.41 μM and 8.01 × 104 M-1, and 1.18 μM and 8.1 × 104 M-1, respectively. The fluorescence quenching mechanism is also highly influenced by their structure and coordination arrangement.

Abstract
With a growing interest in precise and sensitive diagnosis for criminal investigations, nanoparticles (NPs) have intrigued scientific minds working in the field of forensic science due to their exceptional properties. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have emerged as a powerful tool for improving forensic analysis due to their super magnetic behavior combined with smaller dimensions. MNP-based applications can benefit criminologists to solve criminal mysteries with greater precision and pace. This review highlights the different types of MNP-based applications and their developmental and implicational aspects of forensic science. It also renders insight into the future prospects of a splendid blend of nanotechnology and forensic science, leading to a better scientific analysis.

Abstract
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) provides a novel sight for non-invasive tumor ablation, which, however, is still limited by low converting efficiency and short life-time of produced singlet oxygen. In this work, a bioresponsive lanthanide-based nanomedicine, FeOOH-coated and toluidine blue (TB)-loaded NaLuF4:Yb,Er,Tm@NaLuF4, is constructed for tumor microenvironment-activated photodynamic therapy with triple-collaborative enhancing strategy. In response to intratumoral reducibility and acidity, coated FeOOH decomposes, eliminating reduced glutathione (GSH) and up-regulating intratumoral oxidative stress to enhance PDT. Besides, Fe2+ is also released from this redox process, which can improve intratumoral dissolved O2 for PDT by catalytic decomposition of H2O2. Lastly, quenched upconversion luminescence of lanthanide-doped nanoparticles also recovers, which allows more efficient energy transfer to TB and hence improves PDT efficiency. By the above triple-collaborative strategy, highly efficient photodynamic tumor ablation is performed in vivo. This work proposes a rigorous method to elevate photodynamic therapeutic efficiency.

Abstract
Upconversion nanoparticle (UCNP)-based luminescence resonance energy transfer (LRET) systems are a powerful tool widely used to detect organic molecules or metal ions because of their simplicity and high sensitivity. The sandwich structure NaYF4:Er3+,Yb3+@NaYF4@NH2 UCNPs, as a highly selective and sensitive aqueous probe for detecting nitroaromatics, has been designed and prepared by a cothermolysis method and modified with polyetherimide to acquire amine groups on the surface of the core/shell UCNPs. The detection principle of nitroaromatics is based on LRET, which forms the Meisnheimer complex between the electron-deficient cyclobenzene of nitroaromatics and the electron-rich amino group on the surface of the sandwich structure UCNPs. As a consequence, nitroaromatics can be brought into close proximity to the sandwich structure UCNPs. With the increase of nitroaromatics (2,4,6-trinitrophenol and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene) concentrations, the sandwich structure NaYF4:Er3+,Yb3+@NaYF4@NH2 UCNPs display a dramatic luminescent quenching effect at 407 nm and 540 nm under 980 nm excitation. The luminescent quenching intensity of the sandwich structure UCNPs is linearly correlated to the concentration of the nitroaromatics. The detection limit of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) and 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) are 0.78 and 0.77 ng ml-1, respectively. Therefore, the sandwich structure of NaYF4:Er3+,Yb3+@NaYF4@NH2 UCNPs can act as a valuable probe to detect nitroaromatics in public safety and security conditions.

Fluorescence chemical sensor for determining trace levels of nitroaromatic explosives in water based on conjugated polymer with guanidinium side groups. Talanta 2018; 187:314-320. Abstract
A novel fluorescent conjugated polymer (poly(2-amino-N-(2-((4-ethynylphenyl) ethynyl) phenyl)-5-guanidinopentanamide)-1,4-phenylethynylene-1,4-phenyleneethynylene, PPE-Arg) was synthesized in this paper. We found that PPE-Arg could be quenched by picric acid (PA). Photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism can be used to describe the fluorescence quenching of PPE-Arg. It could be speculated that the photo-induced electrons may be transferred from PPE-Arg to nitroaromatic explosives. In this paper, the experiment conditions and detection performance of PPE-Arg were systematically studied. The experiment results demonstrate PPE-Arg as a sensor for PA has a good linear range from 5 × 10-7 to 6 × 10-5 mol L-1 with the calculated limit of detection (LOD) to be 1.0 × 10-7 mol L-1. Meanwhile, reaction time between PPE-Arg and PA is less than 1 min. This proposed sensor was applied to rapidly detect nitroaromatic explosives in environmental water samples and satisfactory results were obtained.

Abstract
A highly water stable and strong upconversion (UC) luminescence NaYF4@PSI-NH nanosensor for the simultaneous and selective detection of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) was successfully developed. Via the 980 nm near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, these nanosensors emit strong white UC luminescence with five typical emission peaks centered at 363, 455, 475, 546, and 654 nm. The UC emission at both 363 and 546 nm was quenched by the addition of TNT; however, the ratio of luminescence intensity at 363 nm to 546 nm (I363/I546) had no change with the increase of TNT concentration. Meanwhile, only violet UC emission at 363 nm was dramatically quenched via the addition of TNP, and the I363/I546 ratio is negatively proportional to the TNP concentration in the range of 0.01-4.5 μg/mL of TNP. On the other hand, the green UC emission intensity at 546 nm is in negative proportion to the concentration of TNT. Moreover, cyclohexane, toluene, and other nitroaromatics (such as 2,4-dinitrotoluene (DNT) and nitrobenzene (NB)) have no influence on the detection. Therefore, we developed a facile method for the simultaneous and selective detection of TNT and TNP in the mixture solution of nitroaromatics independent of complicated instruments and sample pretreatment.
