Abstract
Various water pollution issues pose a significant threat to human water safety. Magnetic polydopamine composites (MPCs), which can be separated by magnetic fields after the adsorption process, exhibit outstanding adsorption capacity and heterogeneous catalytic properties, making them promising materials for water treatment applications. In particular, by modifying the polydopamine (PDA) coating, MPCs can acquire enhanced high reactivity, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility. This also provides an attractive platform for further fabrication of hybrid materials with specific adsorption, catalytic, antibacterial, and water-oil separation capabilities. To systematically provide the background knowledge and recent research advances in MPCs, this paper presents a critical review of MPCs for water treatment in terms of both structure and mechanisms of effect in applications. Firstly, the impact of different PDA positions within the composite structure is investigated to summarize the optimization of properties contributed by PDA when acting as the shell, core, or bridge. The roles of various secondary modifications of magnetic materials by PDA in addressing water pollution problems are explored. It is anticipated that this work will be a stimulus for further research and development of magnetic composite materials with real-world application potential.

Abstract
Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones are common antibacterial drugs used in aquaculture, and their residues may pose a risk to human health. The low concentration of drug residues and complex matrixes such as fats and proteins in aquatic products necessitate the urgent development of efficient sample pretreatment methods. Solid phase extraction (SPE) is the most common sample pretreatment method, in which the core is an adsorbent. Compared with traditional SPE adsorbents, nanofiber mat (NFsM) has more interaction sites because of their large specific surface area. Furthermore, NFsMs modified with specific functional groups can significantly improve the extraction efficiency of tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones. Polydopamine (PDA) is spontaneously synthesized by the oxidative self-polymerization of dopamine-hydrochloride in alkaline solutions (pH>7.5). Because of its rich amino and catechol groups, PDA can form π-π stacking, electrostatic attraction, hydrophobic interaction, and hydrogen bonding interactions with target molecules. By exploiting the above advantages, polystyrene (PS) NFsM, as a template, was prepared by the electrostatic spinning method, and PDA-PS NFsM was obtained by functional modification of PDA through self-polymerization. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) were used to characterize the synthesized PS NFsM and PDA-PS NFsM. It was proved that PDA was successfully modified on the PS NFsM, with the SEM images revealing a rough outer core shell structure and an inner honeycomb structure. Subsequently, the handmade SPE column with PDA-PS NFsM was completed. A novel and efficient screening analytical method based on PDA-PS NFsM for the simultaneous determination of three tetracyclines (tetracycline (TET), chlortetracycline (CTC), and oxytetracycline (OTC)) and three fluoroquinolones (enrofloxacin (ENR), ciprofloxacin (CIP), and norfloxacin (NOR)) in fish by ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was established. The SPE procedure was optimized to develop an efficient method for sample preparation. Evaluate parameters including the amount of NFsM usage, ionic strength, flow rate of the sample solution, composition of eluent, and breakthrough volume were investigated. Only (20±0.1) mg of PDA-PS NFsM was sufficient to completely adsorb the targets, and the analytes retained on NFsM could be eluted by 1 mL of formic acid-ethyl acetate (containing 20% methanol) (1∶99, v/v). The residues were redissolved in 0.1 mL 10% methanol aqueous solution containing 0.2% formic acid. In addition, no adjustment of the pH and ionic strength of the sample solutions was required, and the breakthrough volume was 50 mL. The limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantification (LOQs) of the six target compounds were measured at 3 times and 10 times the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N), respectively. The LODs and LOQs were 0.3-1.5 μg/kg and 1.0-5.0 μg/kg, respectively. The linear ranges of the six target compounds were LOQ-1000 μg/kg, and the coefficient of determination (R2) was greater than 0.999. To evaluate the accuracy and precision, blank spiked samples at three levels (low, medium, and high) were prepared for the recovery experiments, and each level with six parallel samples (n=6). The recoveries ranged from 94.37% to 102.82%, with intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations of 2.38% to 8.06% and 4.10% to 9.10%, respectively. To evaluate the purification capacity of PDA-PS NFsM, the matrix effects before and after SPE were calculated and compared. Matrix effects before SPE were -12.98% to -38.68%. After the completion of SPEbased on PDA-PS NFsM, the matrix effect of each target analyte was significantly reduced to -2.15% to -7.36%, which proved the significant matrix removal capacity of PDA-PS NFsM. Finally, the practicality of this method was evaluated by using it to analyze real samples. This SPE method based on PDA-PS NFsM is efficient, practical, and environmentally friendly, and it has great potential for use in the routine monitoring of drug residues in fish.

Abstract
The fast growth of industrialization combined with the increasing population has led to an unparalleled demand for providing water in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective way, which has become one of the biggest challenges of the twenty-first century faced by global society. The application of nanotechnology in water treatment and pollution cleanup is a promising alternative in order to overcome the current limitations. In particular, the application of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MIONs) for environmental remediation has currently received remarkable attention due to its unique combination of physicochemical and magnetic properties. Given the broadening use of these functional engineered nanomaterials, there is a growing concern about the adverse effects upon exposure of products and by-products to the environment. This makes vitally relevant the development of green chemistry in the synthesis processes combined with a trustworthy risk assessment of the nanotoxicity of MIONs as the scientific knowledge of the potential hazard of nanomaterials remains limited. This work provides comprehensive coverage of the recent progress on designing and developing iron oxide-based nanomaterials through a green synthesis strategy, including the use of benign solvents and ligands. Despite the limitations of nanotoxicity and environmental risks of iron oxide-based nanoparticles for the ecosystem, this critical review presents a contribution to the emerging knowledge concerning the theoretical and experimental studies on the toxicity of MIONs. Potential improvement of applications of advanced iron oxide-based hybrid nanostructures in water treatment and pollution control is also addressed in this review.

Abstract
Present study described a sensitive and efficient method for determination of heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons using multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified magnetic polyamido-amine dendrimers (MNPs@PAMAM-Gn@MWCNTs) as adsorbent for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) coupled with gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (GC-MS/MS). Some pivotal parameters including PAMAM generation, adsorbent dosage, adsorption time, elution time and volume, pH and humic acid concentration were investigated to achieve the best adsorption efficiencies. Under the optimal conditions, 7-methylquinoline, dibenzothiophene and carbazole had good linearity in the concentration range of 0.005-20 μg L - 1, 9-methylcarbazole, 4-methyldibenzothiophene and 4,6-dimethyl dibenzothiophene had good linearity in the concentration range of 0.001-20 μg L - 1. All the correlation coefficients were higher than 0.996. The detection limits of the targets were in the range of 2.2 × 10-4-1.8 × 10-3 μg L - 1 with precisions less than 8.28% (n = 6). The enrichment factors were in the range of 141-147. The spiked recoveries were in the range of 87.0%-115.1% (n = 3). These results indicated that the method could be a reliable alternative tool for monitoring trace heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in environmental water samples.

Abstract
In this study, a titanium ion (Ti4+) functionalized polydopamine coated ferroferric oxide (Fe3O4@PDA@Ti4+) core-shell magnetic particle was prepared for the selective extraction of nucleotides. Firstly, different metal ions including Ti4+, Zr4+, Fe3+, Al3+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+ and Mg2+ were respectively immobilized onto Fe3O4@PDA particles and their extraction efficiency for five nucleotides [cytidine-5'-monophosphate (CMP), uridine-5'-monophosphate (UMP), guanosine-5'-monophosphate (GMP), thymidine-5'-monophosphate (TMP) and adenosine-5'-monophosphate (AMP)] were compared. Among these prepared materials, Fe3O4@PDA@Ti4+, which exhibited the highest extraction efficiency for nucleotides, was further characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. After being optimized of the extraction parameters including adsorbent amounts, extraction time, extraction temperature, type and concentration of the eluent, the prepared Fe3O4@PDA@Ti4+ magnetic particles were successfully applied for the selective extraction and determination of CMP, UMP, GMP, TMP and AMP in Cordyceps and Lentinus edodes. Good linearity (varying from 0.063 to 19.000 μg/mL, R2 > 0.999) and low limit of detection (LODs) (ranging between 0.0047 and 0.0141 μg/mL) for target analytes were achieved. These results demonstrated that the synthesized material in this study had potential for selective extraction of phosphorylated small molecular compounds in complicated matrix.

Abstract
A simple online headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was developed for simultaneous determination of trace amounts of nine estrogenic odorant alkylphenols and chlorophenols and their derivatives in water samples. The extraction conditions of HS-SPME were optimized including fiber selection, extraction temperature, extraction time, and salt concentration. Results showed that divinylbenzene/Carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (DVB/CAR/PDMS) fiber was the most appropriate one among the three selected commercial fibers, and the optimal extraction temperature, time, and salt concentration were 70 °C, 30 min, and 0.25 g/mL, respectively. The developed method was validated and showed good linearity (R (2) > 0.989), low limit of detection (LOD, 0.002-0.5 μg/L), and excellent recoveries (76-126 %) with low relative standard deviation (RSD, 0.7-12.9 %). The developed method was finally applied to two surface water samples and some of these target compounds were detected. All these detected compounds were below their odor thresholds, except for 2,4,6-TCAS and 2,4,6-TBAS wherein their concentrations were near their odor thresholds. However, in the two surface water samples, these detected compounds contributed to a certain amount of estrogenicity, which seemed to suggest that more attention should be paid to the issue of estrogenicity rather than to the odor problem.
