Abstract
BACKGROUND Histamine may lead to low blood pressure, skin flushing and edema when it accumulates in large amounts in the body. Therefore, establishing sensitive methods for the detection of histamine in foods is extremely important to ensure food safety and human health. RESULTS The MI-Cu-GMP NPs (2-methylimidazole-copper-guanosine monophosphate nanozymes) with high laccase-like activity were synthesized. Using the prepared molecular imprinted membrane as biomimetic antibody and MI-Cu-GMP NPs as marker, a sensitive direct competitive biomimetic enzyme-linked immunoassay (BELISA) method for rapid detection of the histamine in foods was developed. Under optimal conditions, the limit of detection (LOD, IC15) and sensitivity (IC50) of the BELISA method for histamine was 0.05 mg L-1 and 1.22 mg L-1, respectively. The liquor samples spiked with histamine was detected by the BELISA method with satisfactory recoveries ranging from 90.00% to 116.00%. Further, the level of histamine in three samples (cooking wine, rice vinegar and soy sauce) was tested by the BELISA and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), with no significant difference found between the two methods. CONCLUSION Given the advantages, the established BELISA method is expected to provide practical guidance for the monitoring of histamine in food and provides a foundation for the detection of other food hazards. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Diphenylalanine(FF)-Zn self-assembly (FS) confined in covalent organic polymers (FS@COPs) with efficient fluorescence was synthesized for fluorescence sensing of biogenic amines, which was one of the most important indicators for monitoring food freshness. FS@COPs combined excellent biodegradability of self-assembled dipeptide with chemical stability, porosity and targeted site recognition of COPs. With an optimal excitation wavelength of 360 nm and an optimal emission wavelength of 450 nm, FS@COPs could be used as fluorescence probes to rapidly visualize and highly sensitive determination of tryptamine (Try) within 15 min, and the linear range was from 40 to 900 μg L-1 with a detection limit of 63.08 μg kg-1. Importantly, the FS@COPs showed a high fluorescence quantum yield of 11.28%, and good stability, solubility, and selectivity, which could successfully achieve the rapid, accurate and highly sensitive identification of Try. Furthermore, we revealed the mechanism of FS@COPs for fluorescence sensing of targets. The FS@COPs system was applied to the fluorescence sensing of Try in real samples and showed satisfactory accuracy of 93.02%-105.25%.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a rapid detection method with high sensitivity and simple pretreatment, but can be affected by interference from matrix components. By incorporating molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) that recognize specific targets, MIP-SERS sensors effectively overcome the interference of complex matrices and offer improved stability and sensitivity. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of the applications of MIP-SERS sensors for the detection of trace toxic substances in food. The underlying mechanism and development of SERS technology and the principle and classification of MIPs technology are discussed. Furthermore, the types of MIP-SERS sensors are introduced, with their advantages and disadvantages systematically illustrated. Recent advances in MIP-SERS technology for the detection of mycotoxins, additives, prohibited dyes, pesticides, veterinary drug residues, and other hazardous substances in food are highlighted. Finally, this review discusses the challenges associated with MIP-SERS technology and proposes future development prospects.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel biomimetic enzyme-linked immunoassay method (BELISA) was successfully established for the detection of histamine and tryptamine, based on catalytically active cupric oxide@gold nanoparticles (CuO@Au NPs) as a marker and a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) as the biomimetic antibody. Under optimized conditions, the detection limitations of the BELISA method for histamine and tryptamine were 0.04 mg L-1 and 0.14 mg L-1, respectively. For liquor spiked with histamine and tryptamine, the BELISA method delivered satisfactory recoveries ranging from 89.90% to 115.00%. Furthermore, the levels of histamine and tryptamine in fish, soy sauce, and rice vinegar samples were detected by the BELISA method and a high performance liquid chromatography method, with no significant difference between the two methods being found. Although the catalytic activity of nanozymes is still lower than that of natural enzymes, the BELISA method could still sensitively determine the histamine and tryptamine levels in food samples.

Abstract
Electrochemical sensors and biosensors are analytical tools, which are in continuous development with the aim of generating new analytical devices which are more reliable, cheaper, faster, sensitive, selective, and robust than others. In matrices related to agroalimentary, environmental, or health systems, natural or synthetic compounds occur which fulfil specific roles; some of them (such as mycotoxins or herbicides) may possess harmful properties, and others (such as antioxidants) beneficial ones. This imposes a challenge to develop new tools and analytical methodologies for their detection and quantification. This review summarises different aspects related to the development of electrochemical sensors and biosensors carried out in Argentina in the last ten years for application in agroalimentary, environmental, and health fields. The discussion focuses on the construction and development of electroanalytical methodologies for the determination of mycotoxins, herbicides, and natural and synthetic antioxidants. Studies based on the use of different electrode materials modified with micro/nanostructures, functional groups, and biomolecules, complemented by the use of chemometric tools, are explored. Results of the latest reports from research groups in Argentina are presented. The main goals are highlighted.

Abstract
This work highlights the protocol employed for the simultaneous electroanalysis of tryptamine, serotonin and dopamine using a conducting poly-murexide-based electrode. To date, this is the first-of-its-kind report of simultaneous electrochemical determination of these three targets. Features of the developed electrode were identified by employing FE-SEM analysis. Under optimized conditions, the analytes underwent an irreversible electro-oxidation at the modified electrode surface, with a linear range of 0.5-40 μΜ, 0.4-40.4 μΜ and 0.5-40 μΜ for dopamine, serotonin and tryptamine, respectively. The electrolytic medium employed for the sensing was a phosphate-buffered solution with pH 7. The specificity of the developed electrode was also satisfactory in the presence of other biomolecules including L-phenylalanine, L-serine, glucose and ascorbic acid. Thus, the developed murexide-derived conducting-polymer-based electrode was used for the simultaneous sensing of the neurochemicals dopamine, serotonin and tryptamine. Electroanalysis was also demonstrated for these targets in human serum.

Abstract
This study reports a new electrochemical method for tryptamine determination using a paper-based microfluidic device and a thermoplastic electrode (TPE) as an amperometric detector. Tryptamine (Tryp) is a biogenic amine present in drinks and foods. Even though this compound has some beneficial effects on human health, the ingestion of foods with high concentrations of Tryp may be detrimental, which justifies the need for monitoring the Tryp levels. The TPEs were made from 50% carbon black and 50% polycaprolactone and characterized by cyclic voltammetry, demonstrating enhancement in the analytical response compared to other carbon composites. TPEs also showed a better antifouling effect for Tryp compared to conventional glassy carbon electrodes. Once characterized, the electrodes were incorporated into the microfluidic device to determine Tryp in water and cheese samples using amperometry. A linear range was achieved from 10 to 75 μmol L-1 with limits of detection and quantification of 3.2 and 10.5 μmol L-1, respectively. Therefore, this work shows promising findings of the electrochemical determination of Tryp, bringing valuable results regarding the electrochemical properties of thermoplastic composites.

Abstract
This first-attempt study used electrochemical methods to quantitatively assess electron-shuttling capabilities of different neurotransmitters crucial to catecholamine biosynthesis in human brain. As prior studies mentioned, aromatics bearing ortho- or para-dihydroxybenzenes could reveal promising electroactivities to stimulate bioenergy generation in microbial fuel cells (MFCs). This feasibility study extended to investigate the electrochemical characteristics of catecholamines and trace amines (e.g., 14 model compounds selected from neurotransmitters) synthesized by human brain via cyclic voltammetry methods (CVs) and MFCs. Dopamine (DA), levodopa (L-DOPA), epinephrine (EP), norepinephrine (NP), and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) would perform the electron-shuttling characteristics, and the rest would not. In particular, DA formed by decarboxylation of L-DOPA could exhibit relatively higher electrochemical activities than their precursors. In addition, carboxylic acids formed by deamination and carboxylation of trace monoamines would reveal more significant reductive potential (Epc); however, their oxidative electric currents seemed to be reduced. That is, chemical structure significantly influenced whether the electrochemical characteristics could be effectively expressed. This work also clearly revealed that neurotransmitters with ortho-dihydroxybenzenes exhibited promising stimulation to bioelectricity-generating capabilities of MFCs in the ranking of DA ~ EP > NP > L-DOPA > DOPAC. This was consistent with ES behaviors as CV analyses indicated.

Abstract
Neurotransmitters are endogenous chemical messengers which play an important role in many of the brain functions, abnormal levels being correlated with physical, psychotic and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's disease. Therefore, their sensitive and robust detection is of great clinical significance. Electrochemical methods have been intensively used in the last decades for neurotransmitter detection, outclassing more complicated analytical techniques such as conventional spectrophotometry, chromatography, fluorescence, flow injection, and capillary electrophoresis. In this manuscript, the most successful and promising electrochemical enzyme-free and enzymatic sensors for neurotransmitter detection are reviewed. Focusing on the activity of worldwide researchers mainly during the last ten years (2010-2019), without pretending to be exhaustive, we present an overview of the progress made in sensing strategies during this time. Particular emphasis is placed on nanostructured-based sensors, which show a substantial improvement of the analytical performances. This review also examines the progress made in biosensors for neurotransmitter measurements in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo.

Abstract
This contribution aimed to measure for the first time the amount of biogenic amines (BAs) in one of the most ancient and traditional sheep cheese produced in Sardinia, Italy: the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Fiore Sardo. To achieve this, an original RP-HPLC-DAD-UV method has been developed that was completely validated in terms of LoD, LoQ, linearity, precision and trueness, and tested on 36 real Fiore Sardo PDO cheese samples produced by four different cheesemakers and marketed by four stores. The average total concentration of the eight BAs (i.e., tyramine, tryptamine, histidine, putrescine, cadaverine, 2-phenylethylamine, spermine and spermidine) measured in Fiore Sardo cheese was 700 mg/kg, with a range between 170 mg/kg and 1,100 mg/kg. A great variability in the total amount of BAs has been evidenced among the Fiore Sardo marketed in the four stores as well as for the cheeses purchased in different times in the same store. Tyramine (350 mg/kg), putrescine (150 mg/kg), histamine (80 mg/kg) and cadaverine (30 mg/kg) are the most abundant BAs found in this matrix. Among the many factors concurring, the dominant microflora of Fiore Sardo PDO is likely the principal cause of the qualitative and quantitative distribution of BAs in this matrix. Finally, the total amount of BAs found in Fiore Sardo PDO is not able to cause any health alert situation for consumers.
