Abstract
Iohexol (IHO), as one of iodinated X-ray contrast, is often used as not only a chemical marker for tracking wastewater contamination in aquatic environment, but also an ideal glomerular filtration rate marker for explorating kidney disease. To these aims, it is important to establish reliable, fast, and cheap methods to detect IHO in environmental and biological samples. This work describes for the first time the development of a selective, sensitive and reliable colorimetric sensing assay for the fast determination of IHO in environmental and biological samples based on 3-aminophenylboronic acid (3-APBA) mediated aggregation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). In this approach, 3-APBA can assemble on the AuNPs surface through electrostatic interaction between its amino groups with the negatively charged citrate stabilizer of AuNPs to form AuNP@3-APBA. Subsequently, the aggregation and visual color change of the assembled AuNP@3-APBA are induced by the covalent reaction between boronic acid ligands of 3-APBA and cis-diols of IHO. The developed assay presented a very simple operating procedure and a rapid analysis time of around 10 min. The developed assay also exhibited good selectivity and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.005 mM for detecting IHO. Moreover, the developed assay showed comparable accuracy and precision to the high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) method when used for the rapid determination of IHO in river water and human urine samples. The recoveries of IHO at three spiking levels were in the range of 91.5-106.3% with relative standard deviation (RSD) values below 6.39%.

Abstract
This study aimed at developing an analytical method for the extraction and quantification of 21 pharmaceutical actives compounds (PhACs) present in fish muscle. Using Norwegian Atlantic salmon as matrix, two extraction methods for PhACs were tested: ultrasound extraction (USE) using methanol (MeOH), acetonitrile (MeCN) or a mixture of MeCN:MeOH (1:1, v/v) as extracting solvents, and QuEChERS method using three different extraction salts. After selecting QuEChERS Original as extracting method of the analytes, three different clean-up methods were evaluated with respect to their efficiency to remove coextracted fat and lipids such as Enhanced Matrix Removal (EMR) and HLB prime. The dispersive-SPE EMR yielded the best recoveries for 21 of 27 analytes. PhACs were quantified by UPLC-MS/MS using SWATH acquisition mode. The method was validated in terms of recoveries, accuracy, linearity, precision, matrix effects at three levels of concentration: 25, 200 and 500 ng g-1 dw of fish muscle. For the majority of the analytes the recoveries were over 70%. Finally, the validated method was applied to natural riverine fish from the Evrotas river (Greece) and the Adige river (Italy) with positive findings for acetaminophen, propranolol, and venlafaxine reaching concentrations as high as 80 ng g-1 of muscle.

Abstract
An analytical method based on pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) followed by liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (Orbitrap) was developed for the simultaneous determination of ten high-intensity sweeteners in fish samples. As the method was developed, the different PLE parameters were optimised and different clean-up strategies were evaluated, of which in-cell clean-up using alumina and on-cell clean-up with hexane were the most effective. PLE recoveries were between 43% and 94%. The method quantification limits were between 12.5ngg-1 dry weight (d.w.) and 250ngg-1 (d.w.) and the method detection limits between 2.5ngg-1 (d.w.) and 125ngg-1 (d.w.). Intra-day precision and inter-day precision were below 16% and 25%, respectively. Fish samples from different species were analysed and, saccharin was found below its method quantification limit in the species Scomber scombrus (Atlantic mackerel).
