Abstract
Nanogels have come out as a great potential drug delivery platform due to its prominently high colloidal stability, high drug loading, core-shell structure, good permeation property and can be responsive to environmental stimuli. Such nanoscopic drug carriers have more excellent abilities over conventional nanomaterials for permeating to brain parenchyma in vitro and in vivo. Nanogel-based system can be nanoengineered to bypass physiological barriers via non-invasive treatment, rendering it a most suitable platform for the management of neurological conditions such as neurodegenerative disorders, brain tumors, epilepsy and ischemic stroke, etc. Therapeutics of central nervous system (CNS) diseases have shown marked limited site-specific delivery of CNS by the poor access of various drugs into the brain, due to the presences of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB). Hence, the availability of therapeutics delivery strategies is considered as one of the most major challenges facing the treatment of CNS diseases. The primary objective of this review is to elaborate the newer advances of nanogel for CNS drugs delivery, discuss the early preclinical success in the field of nanogel technology and highlight different insights on its potential neurotoxicity.

Abstract
Polyamidamine (PAMAM) dendrimer-functionalized hydrothermal nanosized carbonaceous spheres (HNCSs) were prepared and utilized as latexes for agglomerated anion exchange chromatography (AEC) stationary phase. The high-concentration and scalable production of monodisperse HNCSs (73-98 nm) was accomplished via the polyquaternium-7-assisted hydrothermal carbonization of fructose. The novel PAMAM-based quaternizations of HNCSs were designed by the amidation with PAMAM and epoxy-amine addition reaction with glycidol in aqueous solution. The mild functionalization condition leads to well-kept morphology of HNCSs, which forms one even latex layer on the sulfonated surface of polystyrene-divinylbenzene microbeads for the construction of AEC packing. Under isocratic elution, seven common inorganic anions and five organic acids were baseline separated in 9 min on prepared packing with efficiencies of 54,000-79,800 plates m-1 and asymmetry factor (As) of 1.02-1.12. The obtained separation efficiency, peak symmetry, and analysis time were superior to reported or typical commercial counterparts. The quick separation of polarizable anions in 7 min and carbohydrates in 5 min could also be carried out with symmetrical peaks (As: 1.00-1.18) and high efficiencies (49,700-62,100 N/m). Favorable stability and reproducibility were proved by continuous flushing and injection. The constructed packings were further applied to the determination of thiosulfate and sulfate in water reducer, galacturonic acid in Angelica polysaccharide hydrolysate, and fluoride samples in 4 min.

Abstract
Chromatography is one of the most important separation techniques in analytical chemistry. In which, the separation materials are the core for good separation results. Poly (amide-amine) dendrimers with regular three-dimensional structure, abundant terminal groups, controllable molecule chains, and unique cavities appear to have a positive impact on chromatographic separation materials. In the past decades, poly (amide-amine) grafted adsorbents and stationary phases have presented high grafting efficiency, controllable surface structure, good dispersion, and wide practical applications. In this review, the prepared poly (amide-amine) functionalized separation materials and their applications are systematically summarized. Functions, significance, structure-actvity relationships and benefits of poly (amide-amine) dendrimers in the proposed separation materials are discussed in detail. And we hope to provide a useful reference for the future development of chromatographic separation materials and inspire new discoveries in the study of poly (amide-amine) functionalized materials.

Abstract
In this work, novel cyclodextrin-dendrimers nanocomposites functionalized high performance liquid chromatography stationary phases were developed for efficient separation of aromatic compounds. β-cyclodextrin was grafted onto the surface of silica gel matrix with poly (amidoamine) dendrimers as spacers. Scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, element analysis and Brunner-Emmet-Teller measurement proved the successful grafting of cyclodextrin-dendrimers nanocomposites. The obtained stationary phases showed satisfactory separation effects for alkylbenzenes and benzenesulfonic acid substituents in reverse phase liquid chromatography mode. Weak hydrophilic and ion exchange interactions were also confirmed at the same time. Meanwhile, the effects of dendrimers and cyclodextrin on the chromatography performance were discussed. Separation mechanism of the stationary phases were verified by two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance technology, and the result implied that the proposed cyclodextrin-dendrimers nanocomposites functionalized stationary phases have significant prospects for separation and determination of more aromatic compounds in future.

Abstract
Microporous organic networks (MONs) that exhibit good stability and hydrophobicity are promising candidates for performing HPLC separation of small organic compounds. However, their applications in separating large analytes as well as biomolecules are still limited by the microporous nature of MONs. Herein, we demonstrated the fabrication of a MON-functionalized silica (MON@SiO2 ), exhibiting micro and mesopores for the HPLC separations of small drugs as well as large analytes, such as flavones, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), and proteins. MON was successfully modified on SiO2 microspheres to yield the uniform and mono-dispersed MON@SiO2 . The separation mechanisms and performance of the MON@SiO2 packed column were evaluated for a wide range of analytes, including neutral, acidic, basic compounds, drugs, and proteins. Compared with commercial C18 and SiO2 -NH2 packed columns, the proposed MON@SiO2 column afforded superior performance in the separations of flavones, NSAIDs, EDCs, and proteins. Moreover, the MON@SiO2 column also offered good repeatability with intraday RSDs (n = 7) of <0.1%, <2.0%, <2.3%, and <0.7% for the retention time, peak height, peak area, and half peak width, respectively, for separating EDCs. This work proved the potential of using MONs in the HPLC separations of drugs and proteins.

Abstract
Because of the isomeric heterogeneity that is ubiquitous in analytical science, a formidable analytical challenge is to fully discriminate multiple isomers, especially those candidate isomers with various biological functions. Ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS) has gained impressive advances for gaining molecular conformations, whereas coexisting structurally similar isomers often make unambiguous discrimination impossible due to the limited IM resolution of commercially available instruments. Herein, we demonstrate an energy-resolved collision-induced fingerprint (CIF) method to fully discriminate isomeric monosaccharide derivatives that differ in terms of composition, connectivity and configuration without complex instrument modifications. By simply increasing the collisional energy in the trap cell, the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of IM peaks can be markedly narrowed by at least 2-fold. Given the excellent reproducibility of CIF measurements, the full discrimination of isomers can benefit from their unique feature values and root-mean square deviation (RMSD) in CIF spectra. Moreover, rapid discrimination of each monosaccharide derivate isomer from binary mixtures is demonstrated. This strategy will expand the horizons of IM-MS platform in the rapid differentiation of a wider range of isomers more than monosaccharide derivatives in complex systems, which facilitates the identification and evaluation of innovative isomer candidates with unexplored functions.

Abstract
The role of peripheral groups (PGs) on dendrimers in the spontaneous higher-level organization of hierarchically assembled nanofibers was investigated in a series of POSS-based dendritic gelators (POSS-Lys-X, X: -Boc, -Cbz, -Fmoc, etc.). We demonstrate that the PGs not only affect the gelation ability in solutions, but also the construction of orderly entangled fibrous supramolecular networks, e.g., "loofah-like" networks. Attributed to the PGs (especially the -Boc group) causing a lower cooperative assembly, the steady state with the lowest potential energy of gelators can be easily achieved by the higher ordering of nanofiber entanglement into superstructures. The -Boc group-containing dendrimers show low molar enthalpy and molar entropy of gelation, which help the construction of unique three-dimensional (3D) "loofah-like" superstructures. In contrast, the high cooperative assembly of the dendrimer (-Cbz as the PG) promotes the gelator into a higher enthalpy gelation process, with a constructed normal fibrous network. Hence, the PGs of POSS-based dendrimers act as the crucial factor in controlling the hierarchical self-assembly via a thermodynamics approach. This research presents new perspectives to explicate the relationships between PGs of dendrimers, supra-architectures and gel performances, which further guide the design of functional supramolecular materials via controllable self-assembly.
