Porous phenolic resin regulated by alcohol-based deep eutectic solvent for selective extraction and separation of tanshinones from Salvia miltiorrhiza

Deep eutectic solvents (DES), regarded as promising green solvents, have gained attention due to their distinctive properties, particularly in analytical chemistry. While the use of DES in solvent extraction and separation has been extensively studied, its application in the synthesis of adsorbents has just begun. Phenolic resin, with its polyhydroxy structure and stable spherical morphology, could serve as an effective as adsorbents for enrichment of active ingredients in herbal medicine. Designing adsorbents with high selectivity and adsorption capacity presents a critical challenge in the enrichment of active ingredients in herbal medicine. In this study, alcohol-based DESs were employed as regulators of morphology and structure instead of organic solvents, facilitating the creation of polyhydroxy structure, adjustable pores and high specific surface areas. The resulting DES-regulated porous phenolic resin demonstrated enhanced extraction and separation capacity for active ingredients compared to conventional spherical phenolic resin owing to the alcohol-based DES offering more interaction modes with the analytes.

A green QuEChERS syringe filter based micro-solid phase extraction using hydrophobic natural deep eutectic solvent as immobilized sorbent for simultaneous analysis of five anti-diabetic drugs by HPLC-UV

BACKGROUND

Here, it has been discussed about creating a specific and sustainable analytical technique for monitoring anti-diabetic drugs in order to accurately determine the dosage in patients and reduce side effects, remove them from wastewater (as emerging contaminants), and ultimately abate pharmaceutical pollutants in the environment.

RESULTS

In this research, a green and reproducible Quick Easy Cheap Effective Rugged Safe (QuEChERS) method based on syringe filter based micro-solid phase extraction (SF-μSPE) coupled with HPLC-UV using a green sorbent was developed and optimized for the extraction of five anti-diabetic drugs from wastewater, serum, and plasma real samples. A novel green sorbent composed of a liquid mixture of thymol: menthol ([Thy]:[Men], 1:1) hydrophobic natural deep eutectic solvent (HNADES) and curcumin (Cur) immobilized into the non-toxic and biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) electrospun nanofibers' mat was synthesized simply via cheap equipment. Cur was added to enhance the hydrophobicity and functionality of the sorbent. The immobilization process was performed by soaking the mat in the liquid mixture for a specific duration. The correct synthesis and experimental molar ratio of the HNADES components were confirmed by ATR-FTIR and NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopy. The prepared green sorbent (Cur-HNADES/PVA) was characterized using ATR-FTIR, FE-SEM, EDX/EDX mapping analysis, and water contact angle (WCA) measurement, and it exhibited satisfactory adsorption capacity for the target analytes.

SIGNIFICANCE

Under optimal conditions (pH = 6.0, adsorption cycle = 3, sample volume = 5.0 mL, desorption cycle = 1, type and volume of elution = 80:20 %v/v MeOH/ACN and 500.0 μL), the method was validated in terms of specificity, linear dynamic ranges (LDRs = 0.1-2000.0 μg L-1 and 0.1-1800.0 μg L-1), limits of detection (LODs = 0.03-0.09 μg L-1), and precision (within-day RSDs% = 0.32-1.45% and between-day RSDs% = 0.59-2.03%). Evaluation of the greenness aspects of the proposed method was accomplished using the Green Analytical Procedure Index (GAPI) and Analytical GREEnness (AGREE) approaches. It is noteworthy that the conducted research represents the first report of the synthesis and application of this novel and green sorbent for the determination of anti-diabetic drugs in the mentioned real samples.

Deep insight into selective adsorption behavior and mechanism of novel deep eutectic solvent functionalized bio-sorbent towards methcathinone: Experiments and DFT calculation

This work designed and synthesized novelly selective, highly efficient and friendly environmental biochar nanomaterial (ZMBC@ChCl-EG) by screening suitable deep eutectic solvent (DES) as the functional monomer via Density Functional Theory (DFT). The prepared ZMBC@ChCl-EG achieved the highly efficient adsorption of methcathinone (MC) and exhibited excellent selectivity as well as good reusability. Selectivity analysis concluded that the distribution coefficient value (K_D) of ZMBC@ChCl-EG towards MC was 3.247 L/g, which was about 3 times higher than that of ZMBC, corresponding to stronger selective adsorption capacity. The studies of isothermal and kinetics indicated that ZMBC@ChCl-EG had an excellent adsorption capacity towards MC and the adsorption was mainly chemically controlled. In addition, DFT was used to calculate the binding energies between MC and each component. The binding energies were -10.57 kcal/mol for ChCl-EG/MC, -3.15∼-9.51 kcal/mol for BCs/MC, -2.33 kcal/mol for ZIF-8/MC, respectively, suggesting that DES played a major role in enhancing methcathinone adsorption. Lastly, the adsorption mechanisms were revealed by variables experiment combined with characterizations and DFT calculation. The main mechanisms were hydrogen bonding and π-π interaction.

Deep-Eutectic-Solvent-Based Mesoporous Molecularly Imprinted Polymers for Purification of Gallic Acid from Camellia spp. Fruit Shells

To produce antioxidant substances from agricultural waste Camellia spp. fruit shells before their further utilization, gallic acid from five kinds of Camellia spp. fruit shells was separated on specific recognition by deep eutectic solvent molecularly imprinted polymers (DES@MIPs), which were prepared by bulk polymerization using gallic acid as the template and deep eutectic solvents (α-methylacrylic acid and choline chloride) as functional monomers. The optimized DES@MIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, particle size analysis, nitrogen sorption porosimetry, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The adsorptive behavior of gallic acid on DES@MIPs was also investigated. The results indicated that DES@MIPs were successfully prepared as mesoporous materials with average pore diameter of 9.65 nm and total pore volume of 0.315 cm³ g⁻¹, and the adsorption behavior was multilayer adsorption and pseudo-second-order kinetics with the saturation adsorptive capacity of gallic acid reaching 0.7110 mmol g⁻¹. Although the content of gallic acid in five fruit shells was quite different, the purification recovery of gallic acid was high, ranging from 87.85–96.75% with a purity over 80%. Thus, the purification of gallic acid from Camellia spp. fruit shells could be realized feasibly using DES@MIPs with favorable economic and environmental benefits.

Computer Simulations of Deep Eutectic Solvents: Challenges, Solutions, and Perspectives

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are one of the most rapidly evolving types of solvents, appearing in a broad range of applications, such as nanotechnology, electrochemistry, biomass transformation, pharmaceuticals, membrane technology, biocomposite development, modern 3D-printing, and many others. The range of their applicability continues to expand, which demands the development of new DESs with improved properties. To do so requires an understanding of the fundamental relationship between the structure and properties of DESs. Computer simulation and machine learning techniques provide a fruitful approach as they can predict and reveal physical mechanisms and readily be linked to experiments. This review is devoted to the computational research of DESs and describes technical features of DES simulations and the corresponding perspectives on various DES applications. The aim is to demonstrate the current frontiers of computational research of DESs and discuss future perspectives.

Combinations of Nanomaterials and Deep Eutectic Solvents as Innovative Materials in Food Analysis

The application of nanotechnology has been an important tool in the development of sustainable analytical procedures which have been developed in agreement with the principles of sustainability and green chemistry. In this sense, such materials have been widely applied in the area of food analysis providing important improvements in terms of specificity, efficiency, and simplicity. Besides, in recent years, the discovery of other innovative materials developed in the framework of green chemistry, such as deep eutectic solvents (DESs), has gained special attention from the scientific community for whom the design and successful application of sustainable strategies is a huge challenge. In this sense, the recent combination of nanomaterials and DESs have resulted in the performance of suitable approaches in the area of food sciences bringing about interesting alternatives in food analysis. The aim of this review article is to revise the application of nanomaterials combined with DESs in food analysis, paying special attention to the synthesis and characterization steps, as well as to the performance of the most recent approaches developed in the field for the analysis of food commodities.

Removal of trace DNA toxic compounds using a Poly(deep eutectic solvent)@Biomass based on multi-physical interactions

DNA toxic compounds (DNA-T-Cs), even in trace amounts, seriously threaten human health and must be completely eliminated. However, the currently used separation media face great challenges in removing trace DNA-T-Cs. Based on the functional advantages of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and the natural features of biomass (BioM), a series of Poly(DES)@BioMs functioning as adsorbents were prepared for the removal of aromatic/hetero-atomic DNA-T-Cs at the ppm level. After optimisation of experimental conditions, the removal efficiency for DNA-T-Cs ranged from 92.4% to 96.0% with an initial concentration of 20.0 ppm, a temperature of 30 °C, duration of 30 min, and pH of 7.0. The removal processes between the DNA-T-Cs and Poly(DES)@BioMs are well described in the Temkin equilibrium and second-order kinetic adsorption models, and the desorption processes are well shown in the Korsmeryer-Peppas equilibrium and zero-order kinetic models. Molecular simulations revealed that the removal interactions include hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, and hydrophobic/hydrophilic effects. The removal efficiency for the DNA-T-Cs at 8.0 ppm in industrial sewage ranged from 69.7% to 102%, while the removal efficiency for the DNA-T-Cs standing alone at 20.0 ppm in a methyl violet drug solution was 95.4%, confirming that the Poly(DES)@BioMs effectively removed trace DNA-T-Cs in field samples.

Deep eutectic solvent-modified mixed iron hydroxide-silica: Application in magnetic solid-phase extraction for enrichment of organochlorine pesticides prior to GC-MS analysis

A new type of magnetic material based on silica-coated mixed iron hydroxides functionalized with deep eutectic solvent was utilized for the magnetic solid-phase extraction of organochlorine pesticides prior to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. Choline chloride and phenol were selected as the hydrogen bond acceptor and donor, respectively, for preparing the deep eutectic solvent-modified magnetic surface. The modified surface possessed superior enrichment capability for organochlorine pesticides. Under optimal extraction conditions, viz., 10 mg sorbent, 5 mL sample solution, and 200 μL acetone (desorption solvent), linearity was obtained in the range 0.005-200 μg/L, with coefficients of determination greater than 0.997. The limits of detection and quantification were as low as 0.6-10 and 5-60 ng/L, respectively, whereas the enrichment factors were in the range of 31-100. The precisions evaluated in terms of the relative standard deviations of the intra- and inter-day experiments were <4.9 and 7.6%, respectively. The developed method was successfully applied for determining the organochlorine residues in agricultural products. Satisfactory recoveries in the range of 71.2-110.3% were obtained, with a relative standard deviation of <8.0%. The proposed material is a promising sorbent for the preconcentration of organochlorine residues.

Current Progress in Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents for the Extraction of Active Components from Plants

In the last decade, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) have gained more and more attention due to their green, convenient preparation, low toxicity and biodegradability. It is widely used in various fields, especially in the extraction of active components from plants, formed by the combination of hydrogen bond donors (HBDs) and hydrogen bond acceptors (HBAs) at a certain condition. In this article, six preparation methods of NADESs were summarized and the interactions that occur in the eutectic behavior of NADES including hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interaction and van der Waals force were also reviewed. What is more, its significant extraction capacity on flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids and plant pigments endows its extensive applications in the extraction of active components from medicinal plants. Extraction factors including solvents properties (viscosity, carbon chain length, number of hydroxyl groups), extraction condition (water content, extraction temperature, extraction time, solid-liquid ratio), extraction method and recycling method were discussed. In addition, NADESs can also be combined with other technologies, like molecular imprinting, monolithic column, to achieve efficient and specific extraction of active ingredients. Further systematic studies on the biodegradability and biotoxicity are put forward to be urgent.

A molecularly imprinted polymer based on MOF and deep eutectic solvent for selective recognition and adsorption of bovine hemoglobin

In this study, a novel kind of imprinted polymers based on metal-organic frameworks (MOF@DES-MIPs) was prepared, using bovine hemoglobin (BHb) as template molecules and deep eutectic solvents (DES) as functional monomers for selective recognition and adsorption of BHb. MOF were used as the substrates to improve the accessibility of imprinted sites and DES as the functional monomers to produce different forces for BHb to help the formation of imprinted sites. Imprinted polymer films were taken to provide analyte selectivity. The MOF@DES-MIPs prepared were characterized and evaluated by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. We also investigated the influences of BHb concentration and adsorption time on the performance of MOF@DES-MIPs. The maximal adsorption capacity of MOF@DES-MIPs to BHb reached 151.28 mg g^-1, and the MOF@DES-MIPs showed good selectivity and fast adsorption equilibrium, which might offer a novel method for the preparation and research of molecularly imprinted polymers of biomacromolecules. In addition, MOF@DES-MIPs were successfully applied in the selective recognition of BHb from a real bovine blood sample. Graphical abstract.

Hydrophilic deep eutectic solvents modified phenolic resin as tailored adsorbent for the extraction and determination of levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin from milk

A reliable and efficient method for the simultaneous extraction and determination of antibiotics of ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin from milk was developed with solid phase extraction based on tailored adsorbent materials of deep eutectic solvents modified phenolic resin (DES-R-SPE). Six types of polyhydric alcohol-based hydrophilic DESs were prepared to modify the phenolic resin with the compositions of 3-aminophenol as a functional monomer, glyoxylic acid as a crosslinker, and polyethylene glycol 6000 as a porogen. And the prepared DES-Rs showed better extraction capacities for the target analytes than the unmodified phenolic resin because of more hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions supplied by DESs. The choline chloride-glycerol-based resin (DES¹-R) with the highest adsorption amounts was selected and the adsorption behavior of it was studied with static adsorption and the dynamic adsorption performance; the adsorption process followed Freundlich isotherm (R² ≥ 0.9337) and pseudo-second-order (R² ≥ 0.9951). The present DES¹-R-SPE method showed good linear range from 0.5 to100 μg mL^-1 (R² ≥ 0.9998), good recoveries of spiked milk samples (LEV, 96.7%; CIP, 101.5%), and satisfied repeatability for intra-day and inter-day (LEV, RSD≤5.4%; CIP, RSD≤4.6%).

Photoluminescence with an unusual open-loop and rigid delocalized conjugated structure in quantum dots

It is well known that almost all photoluminescent molecules are aromatic or heterocyclic ring compounds for bioimaging analysis. A question remains as to whether a breakthrough can be achieved regarding a novel photoluminescent molecule without a ring structure, and in a what manner. In this study, we explored the photoelectric conversion and structure of photoluminescent compounds, and constructed an intra-molecular coupling positive-negative-junction (PNJ) with an open-loop and rigid Π₅⁶ delocalized conjugated structure of the coupling p-π conjugate system. This was performed to enable strong absorption of the R/tail-end band for the high probability of an n → π*/n → σ* electron transition for photoluminescence production. Subsequently, the Π₅⁶ structure was formed in a short-chain aliphatic molecule as a hydrolytic product of citric acid and urea, and computational methodology was employed to estimate the feasibility of the molecule photoluminescence. Finally, a quantum dot material was fabricated from the aliphatic molecule, the optical properties of the quantum dots were investigated, and the biocompatibility and bioimaging ability of quantum dots were assessed. This work presents not only a theoretical exploration but also practical application of a new strategy to obtain molecules, compounds, and materials with bioimaging.

Imprinted Polymer Beads Loaded with Silver Nanoparticles for Antibacterial Applications

After the emergence of multidrug-resistant strains, antibiotic resistance in bacteria has become an important problem. Thus, materials for combating multidrug-resistant bacteria are of vital importance. In this work, we developed an antibacterial material that can selectively capture and destruct bacteria on the basis of their physical characteristics. To achieve bacterial capture and deactivation with a single material, we used bacterial cells as templates to synthesize surface-imprinted polymer beads in bacteria-stabilized Pickering emulsions. Acrylate-functionalized polyethylenimine was used to coat the bacterial surface so that the coated bacteria can act as a particle stabilizer to establish an oil-in-water Pickering emulsion. Hydrophobic Ag nanoparticles were introduced into the oil phase composed of cross-linking monomers. Bacteria-imprinted beads (BIB) were obtained after the oil phase was polymerized. Bacterial binding experiments confirmed the importance of the imprinted sites for specific recognition with the target bacteria. The Ag nanoparticles embedded inside the polymer beads enhanced bacterial inactivation and reduced the leakage of heavy metal in aquatic environment. The combination of bacteria-imprinting with delivery of general-purpose antibacterial reagents offers a useful approach toward selective capture and destruction of bacteria.

Solvothermal synthesis of poly(acrylic acid) decorated magnetic molybdenum disulfide nanosheets for highly-efficient adsorption of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions

The role of deep eutectic solvents and carrageenan in synthesizing biocompatible anisotropic metal nanoparticles

Plasmonic metal nanoparticles are widely used for many applications due to their unique optical and chemical properties. Over the past decade, anisotropic metal nanoparticles have been explored for imaging, sensing, and diagnostic applications. The variations and flexibility of tuning the size and shape of the metal nanoparticles at the nanoscale made them promising candidates for biomedical applications such as therapeutics, diagnostics, and drug delivery. However, safety and risk assessment of the nanomaterials for clinical purposes are yet to be made owing to their cytotoxicity. The toxicity concern is primarily due to the conventional synthesis route that involves surfactants as a structure-directing agent and as a capping agent for nanoparticles. Wet chemical methods employ toxic auxiliary chemicals. However, the approach yields monodispersed nanoparticles, an essential criterion for their intended application and a limitation of the green synthesis of nanoparticles using plant extracts. Several biocompatible counterparts such as polymers, lipids, and chitosan-based nanoparticles have been successfully used in the synthesis of safe nanomaterials, but there were issues regarding reproducibility and yield. Enzymatic degradation was one of the factors responsible for limiting the efficacy. Hence, it is necessary to develop a safer and nontoxic route towards synthesizing biocompatible nanomaterials while retaining morphology, high yield, and monodispersity. In this regard, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and carrageenan as capping agent for nanoparticles can ensure the safety. Carrageenan has the potential to act as antibacterial and antiviral agent, and adds enhanced stability to the nanoparticles. This leads to a multidimensional approach for utilizing safe nanomaterials for advanced biomedical and clinical applications.

A critical review on the applications and potential risks of emerging MoS2 nanomaterials

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) nanomaterials have been widely used in various fields such as energy store and transformation, environment protection, and biomedicine due to their unique physicochemical properties. Unfortunately, such large-scale production and use of MoS₂ nanomaterials would inevitably release into the environmental system and then potentially increase the risks of wildlife/ecosystem and human beings as well. In this review, we first introduce the physicochemichemical properties, synthetic methods and environmental behaviors of MoS₂ nanomaterials and their typical functionalized materials, then summarize their environmental and biomedical applications, next assess their potential health risks, covering in vivo and in vitro studies, along with the underlying toxicological mechanisms, and last point out some special phenomena about the balance between applications and potential risks. This review aims to provide guidance for harm predication induced by MoS₂ nanomaterials and to suggest prevention measures based on the recent research progress of MoS₂' applications and exerting toxicological data.

Synthesis of a novel arginine-modified starch resin and its adsorption of dye wastewater

In this work, corn starch (St) was firstly grafted with polyacrylamide (PAM) to obtain StAM, which was subsequently immobilized with arginine to obtain a guanidine-containing starch-based resin, StAM–Arg. The synthesized products were characterized via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ¹³C-NMR nuclear magnetic resonance (¹³C-NMR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). StAM–Arg exhibited a significantly enhanced adsorption capacity for acid fuchsin (AF), acid orange G (AOG), and acid blue 80 (AB80) compared with zeolite, diatomite, St and StAM, and it also exhibited broad-spectrum adsorption for different dyes. Weak acidic conditions were favorable for the resin to adsorb acid dyes. The decolorization rate (DR) by StAM–Arg for mixed wastewater reached 82.49%, which was higher than that of activated carbon (DR = 58.09%). StAM–Arg showed high resistance to microbial degradation, resulting in significantly improved structural stability for the resin. Its antibacterial rate (AR) for E. coli was up to 99.73%. After 7 days in simulated natural water, the weight loss ratio (WR) of StAM–Arg was 14.5%, which was much lower than that of St (WR = 66.53%). The introduced guanidine groups were considered to be the major reason for the observed improvements. Furthermore, the cationic guanidine could trap the acid dyes via ion-exchange reactions, while effectively inhibiting or eliminating the growth of bacteria on the adsorbent surface. The above advantages, including good dyestuff adsorption properties, high structural stability and prolonged service life, make StAM–Arg overcome the inherent drawbacks of the existing natural polymer adsorbents and have good application prospect in the treatment of textile wastewater.

In the side reaction, the two aldehyde groups in the glutaraldehyde molecules should undergo an aldol condensation reaction with the hydroxyl group in the starch molecule, which has been corrected.

Involvement of Deep Eutectic Solvents in Extraction by Molecularly Imprinted Polymers—A Minireview

Substantial research activity has been focused on new modes of extraction and refining processes during the last decades. In this field, coverage of the recovery of bioactive compounds and the role of green solvents such as deep eutectic solvents (DESs) also gradually increases. A specific field of DESs involvement is represented by molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). The current state and prospects of implementing DESs in MIPs chemistry are, based on the accumulated experimental data so far, evaluated and discussed in this minireview.

Solid-Phase Extraction of Catechins from Green Tea with Deep Eutectic Solvent Immobilized Magnetic Molybdenum Disulfide Molecularly Imprinted Polymer

A type of molecular-imprinted polymer with magnetic molybdenum disulfide as a base and deep eutectic solvent as a functional monomer (Fe₃O₄@MoS₂@DES-MIP) was prepared with surface molecular imprinting method. It was applied as the adsorbent for the selective recognition and separation of (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, (-)-epigallocatechin, (-)-epicatechin gallate, and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate in green tea in the process of magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The structure of Fe₃O₄@MoS₂@DES-MIP was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The adsorption properties and selective recognition ability on (-)-epigallocatechin gallate and the other four structural analogues were examined and compared. The results show that the polymer has excellent selective recognition ability for (-)-epigallocatechin gallate, and its adsorption capacity was much higher than that of structural analogues. The Fe₃O₄@MoS₂@DES-MIP not only has the special recognition ability to template a molecule, but also can be separated by magnets with high separation efficiency and can be used in MSPE.

Polymer Science and Engineering Using Deep Eutectic Solvents

The green and versatile character of deep eutectic solvents (DES) has turned them into significant tools in the development of green and sustainable technologies. For this purpose, their use in polymeric applications has been growing and expanding to new areas of development. The present review aims to summarize the progress in the field of DES applied to polymer science and engineering. It comprises fundamentals studies involving DES and polymers, recent applications of DES in polymer synthesis, extraction and modification, and the early developments on the formulation of DES–polymer products. The combination of DES and polymers is highly promising in the development of new and ‘greener’ materials. Still, there is plenty of room for future research in this field.

Optimization of heteroatom doped graphene oxide by deep eutectic solvents and the application for pipette-tip solid-phase extraction of flavonoids

In order to improve the permeation and adsorption properties of graphene oxide, heteroatoms and deep eutectic solvent were introduced in this study. After being modified, the structural properties of graphene oxide were improved and the materials were applied to the determination of myricetin and rutin in tea sample by pipette-tip solid-phase extraction method. The materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-Ray diffractomer, energy dispersive spectroscopy, atomic force microscope, and specific surface area by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller N₂ adsorption desorption analysis. Meanwhile, they were tested by static and dynamic adsorption. The result showed that the materials after modifying had better adsorption amount for myricetin and rutin than graphene oxide. The calibration graphs of myricetin and rutin in MeOH were linear over 0.10-500.00 µg/mL, and the limits of detection and quantification were in the range of 0.00546-0.0182 µg/mL and 0.00741-0.0247 µg/mL, respectively. A reliable analytical method was developed for recognition targets in tea sample by DES modified nitrogen-doped graphene oxide with satisfactory extraction recoveries (myricetin 99.77%, rutin 98.14%). It was potential for the rapid purification of myricetin and rutin in tea sample combined with the pipette-tip solid-phase extraction.

Preparation of Fe3O4@polyoxometalates Nanocomposites and Their Efficient Adsorption of Cationic Dyes from Aqueous Solution

In this work, two magnetic adsorbents Fe₃O₄@1 and Fe₃O₄@2 were prepared by combining Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles and polyoxometalate hybrids [Ni(HL)₂]₂H₂[P₂Mo₅O₂₃]·4H₂O (1), [H₂L]₅H[P₂Mo₅O₂₃]·12H₂O (2) (HL = 2-acetylpyridine-thiosemicarbazone). The temperature-dependent zero-field-cooled (ZFC) and field-cooled (FC) measurements indicated the blocking temperature at 160 K and 180 K, respectively. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of Fe₃O₄@1 and Fe₃O₄@2 is 8.106 m²/g and 1.787 m²/g, respectively. Cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and anionic dye methyl orange (MO) were investigated for selective dye adsorption on Fe₃O₄@1 and Fe₃O₄@2. The two adsorbents were beneficial for selective adsorption of cationic dyes. The adsorption efficiency of MB was 94.8% for Fe₃O₄@1, 97.67% for Fe₃O₄@2. Furthermore, the two adsorbents almost maintained the same adsorption efficiency after seven runs. The maximum MB adsorption capacity of Fe₃O₄@1 and Fe₃O₄@2 is 72.07 and 73.25 mg/g, respectively. The fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra of the adsorbents collected after adsorption of MB are very similar to the initial as-synthesized Fe₃O₄@polyoxometalates indicating the high stability of the two adsorbents. The adsorption kinetics indicated that the MB removal followed the pseudo-second-order model. These results showed that the two adsorbents had a potential application in treating wastewater.
