Abstract
A chiral monolith stationary phase was fabricated by modifying the monolith surface using L-cysteine through a thiol-epoxy click reaction. L-cysteine-bonded polymer monolith was characterized by scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray and attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transformed infrared. The monomer content and modification temperature were carefully optimized to create a polymer monolith with excellent mechanical stability and permeability. Our findings revealed that the column morphology depended significantly on the porogen concentration and modification temperature for its morphology and efficiency. Adequate pores and binding sites were formed with the optimal porogen content, while a higher modification temperature improved the modification yield, enhancing peak shapes and increasing separation efficiency. The column demonstrated its capability for enantioseparation of dansyl glutamic acid, dansyl aspartic acid, dansyl methionine, and dansyl phenylalanine using a 60 mM ammonium acetate buffer solution and acetonitrile in a 20:80 v/v ratio. It maintained good mechanical stability and repeatability with no relative standard deviation exceeding 7%. These results indicated that the L-cysteine-bonded polymer monolith has excellent potential as a chiral stationary phase.

Abstract
Organic-silica hybrid monoliths attracted attention as an alternative to extensively researched organic polymer-based and silica-based counterparts. The development and applications of these materials as extraction and separation media in capillary liquid chromatography and capillary electrochromatography were previously reviewed in several manuscripts. In this review, we will concentrate on work published since mid-2016 focusing on advances in their development using sol-gel chemistry of tetra- and trialkoxysilanes and subsequent surface modification with organic monomers, and "one-pot" strategy incorporating sol-gel chemistry of alkoxysilanes and free-radical polymerization, ring-opening polymerization, or thiol-based click polymerization with organic monomers. Approaches adapted to the preparation of hybrid monoliths made with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes will be covered as well.

Abstract
Enantiomers show different behaviors in interaction with the chiral environment. Due to their identical chemical structure and their wide application in various industries, such as agriculture, medicine, pesticide, food, and so forth, their separation is of great importance. Today, the term "nano" is frequently encountered in all fields. Technology and measuring devices are moving towards miniaturization, and the usage of nanomaterials in all sectors is expanding substantially. Given that scientists have recently attempted to apply miniaturized techniques known as nano-liquid chromatography/capillary-liquid chromatography, which were originally accomplished in 1988, as well as the widespread usage of nanomaterials for chiral resolution (back in 1989), this comprehensive study was developed. Searching the terms "nano" and "enantiomer separation" on scientific websites such as Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science yields articles that either use miniaturized instruments or apply nanomaterials as chiral selectors with a variety of chemical and electrochemical detection techniques, which are discussed in this article.

Abstract
A novel silicone flame retardant PMDA was synthesized and blended with a commercial thiol-ene (TE) to obtain a flame-retardant TE (FRTE) composite. The cone calorimeter measurement showed the incorporation of PMDA improved the flame retardancy of the TE composite at concentrations of 5 wt%. The thermal stability and degradation mechanism of FRTE in nitrogen was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The degradation behaviour of TE containing a PMDA flame retardant was found to be changed. The kinetics of thermal degradation was evaluated by Kissinger method and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method. The results showed that the activation energies of the FRTE degradation were higher than those of neat TE. However, the degradation mechanism of the TE matrix was not changed by the incorporation of flame-retardant PMDA. In this study, the flame-retardant mechanism of PMDA flame-retardant TE polymer was explained by using two kinetic analysis methods.

Polyelectrolyte-grafted anion exchangers with hydrophilic intermediate layers for ion chromatography. J Chromatogr A 2022; 1682:463498. Abstract
The hydrophobicity of polymer-based anion exchangers is a persistent problem in suppressed anionic chromatography (SAC) due to its adverse effect on chromatographic performance. Herein we describe polyelectrolyte-grafted anion exchangers with modified hydrophilic intermediate layers. The anion exchangers were functionalized by successively grafting a linear cationic condensation polymer (LCCP), a preprepared polyelectrolyte. The carboxylic/hydroxylic intermediate layers formed during thiol-radical-mediated polymerization exert distinct effects on the phase capacity and hydrophobicity. The separation of typical inorganic anions, polarizable anions, and organic acids shows that the anion exchangers display good performance in SAC mode.

Abstract
Noscapine is an isolated compound from the opium poppy, with distinctive chiral structure and chemistry, interacts with other compounds due to having multiple π-acceptors, hydrogen bond acceptors, and ionic sites. Therefore, it has promising applicability for the enantioselective separation of a wide range of polar, acidic, basic, and neutral compounds. A new noscapine derivative chiral stationary phase (ND-CSP) has been synthesized by consecutive N-demethylation, reduction, and N-propargylation of noscapine followed by attachment of a solid epoxy-functionalized silica bed through the 1,3-dipolar Huisgen cycloaddition. The noscapine derivative-based stationary phase provides a considerable surface coverage, which is greater than some commercial CSPs and can validate better enantioresolution performance. The major advantages inherent to this chiral selector are stability, reproducibility after more than 200 tests, and substantial loading capacity. The characterization by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and elemental analysis indicated successful functionalization of the silica surface. Chromatographic method conditions like flow rate and mobile phase composition for enantioseparation of various compounds such as warfarin, propranolol, mandelic acid, and a sulfanilamide derivative were optimized. Comparing the experimental results with docking data revealed a clear correlation between the calculated binding energy of ND-CSP and each enantiomer with the resolution of enantiomer peaks.

Abstract
The last two decades have seen the rapid expansion of click chemistry methodology in various domains closely related to organic chemistry. It has notably been widely developed in the area of surface chemistry, mainly because of the high-yielding character of reactions of the "click" type. Especially, this powerful chemical reaction toolbox has been adapted to the preparation of stationary phases from the corresponding chromatographic supports. A plethora of selectors can thus be immobilized on either organic, inorganic, or hybrid stationary phases that can be used in different chromatographic modes. This review first highlights the few different chemical ligation strategies of the "click" type that are up to now mainly devoted to the development of functionalized supports for separation sciences. Then, it gives in a second part an up-to-date survey of the different studies dedicated to the preparation of click chemistry-based chromatographic supports while highlighting the powerful and versatile character of the "click" ligation strategy for the design, synthesis, and developments of more and more complex systems that can find promising applications in the area of analytical sciences, in domains as varied as enantioselective separation, glycomics, proteomics, genomics, metabolomics, etc.

Abstract
In this article, the flame retardant poly(aminopropyl/phenyl)silsesquioxane (PA) was incorporated into thiol-ene (TE), to obtain a flame-retardant thiol-ene (FRTE) composite. The cone calorimeter (CONE) measurement results showed that, compared with neat TE, the peak of heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) of FRTE have decreased by almost 23.7% and 14.5%, respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results further confirmed that the flame retardant PA could induce the initial thermal degradation of TE, and increased the amounts of residual char. Moreover, the activation energies of FRTE were calculated through the Kissinger and Flynn–Wall–Ozawa methods. Compared with the neat TE, the activation energies of FRTE were raised by the addition of PA. It indicated that the flame retardant PA promoted cross-linking reactions of TE, to form a compact char layer and retarded further the thermal degradation of the polymer matrix.

Abstract
In this article, a novel phosphorus and silicon-containing flame retardant (DOPO-V-PA) was synthesized via condensation reaction and then added into thiol-ene (TE) to prepare a flame-retardant composite. The results of cone calorimeter measurement demonstrated that, compared with pure TE, 22.7% and 53.2% reduction of TE/DOPO-V-PA (thiol-ene/9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide-vinyltrimethoxysilane-phenyltrimethoxysilane-(3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane copolymer) was found for the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR), respectively. The thermal degradation of TE composites was investigated by the TGA measurement under non-isothermal conditions, and kinetic parameters were both calculated by the Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa methods. It was indicated that the activation energies of TE at conversions exceeding 50% were enhanced by the incorporation of DOPO-V-PA for the whole conversion range.

Abstract
Fast and efficient separation remains a big challenge in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The need for higher efficiency and resolution in separation is constantly in demand. To achieve that, columns developed are rapidly moving towards having smaller particle sizes and internal diameters (i.d.). However, these parameters will lead to high back-pressure in the system and will burden the pumps of the HPLC instrument. To address this limitation, monolithic columns, especially silica-based monolithic columns have been introduced. These columns are being widely investigated for fast and efficient separation of a wide range of molecules. The present article describes the current methods developed to enhance the column efficiency of particle packed columns and how silica monolithic columns can act as an alternative in overcoming the low permeability of particle packed columns. The fundamental processes behind the fabrication of the monolith including the starting materials and the silica sol-gel process will be discussed. Different monolith derivatization and end-capping processes will be further elaborated and followed by highlights of the performance such monolithic columns in key applications in different fields with various types of matrices.

Abstract
High-performance liquid chromatography integrated with tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) has become a powerful technique for proteomics research. Its performance heavily depends on the separation efficiency of HPLC, which in turn depends on the chromatographic material. As the "heart" of the HPLC system, the chromatographic material is required to achieve excellent column efficiency and fast analysis. Monolithic materials, fabricated as continuous supports with interconnected skeletal structure and flow-through pores, are regarded as an alternative to particle-packed columns. Such materials are featured with easy preparation, fast mass transfer, high porosity, low back pressure, and miniaturization, and are next-generation separation materials for high-throughput proteins and peptides analysis. Herein, the recent progress regarding the fabrication of various monolithic materials is reviewed. Special emphasis is placed on studies of the fabrication of monolithic capillary columns and their applications in separation of biomolecules by capillary liquid chromatography (cLC). Abstract
The successful fabrication of monolithic capillary columns for enantiomer separations was achieved within vinylized fused silica capillaries via fast "one-pot" photo-initiated free radical polymerization reaction. A mixture consisting of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane, O-[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethylcarbamoyl]-10,11-dihydroquinidine was copolymerized in the presence of n-butanol, ethylene glycol and photo-initiator 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone. The morphology of the resultant polymeric hybrid inorganic-organic material and its permeability as well as porosity can be controlled by adjusting the composition of the monomers and binary porogenic solvent. The chromatographic characteristics of the columns have been investigated. Separation factors of N-acetyl-phenylalanine (Ac-Phe) and dichlorprop dropped with decrease of chiral functional monomer. Permeability was better when the macroporogen ethyleneglycol was present at higher concentrations during the polymerization. In general, the chiral compounds were well separated (dichlorprop: α = 1.53, Rs up to 4.14; Ac-Phe: α = 1.36, Rs up to 2.69) by nano-HPLC with an optimized enantioselective monolithic capillary column which can be prepared within a few minutes.

Abstract
Nonspecific adsorption is a challenge of specific recognition on aptamer-based affinity monoliths. Here, a novel highly hydrophilic polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-containing aptamer-based hybrid-silica affinity monolith with a good recognition nature was prepared and used for specific discrimination of ochratoxin A (OTA). A homogeneous polymerization mixture consisted of POSS chemicals, hydrophilic monomers and aptamer solution was directly polymerized via the "one-pot" method. Preparation and characterization of the resultant affinity monolith were studied in detail. A highly hydrophilic nature was obtained and the typical hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) was observed when acetonitrile (ACN) content in mobile phase was 25%, which reached the highest hydrophilicity of POSS-based hybrid monoliths. By using OTA as model analyte, the nonspecific adsorption was effectively suppressed. The recovery of the analogue ochratoxin B (OTB) was only about 0.1% even if the content of OTB was 50 times more than OTA, which was much better than other POSS-containing monoliths and polar siloxane-based hybrid monoliths. Applied to beer samples, the adsorption of background materials was drastically resisted, and efficient recognition of OTA was obtained with the recoveries of 94.9-99.8%. Much less disturbance was observed than that occurred in hydrophobic POSS-based affinity monolith. It lights an attractive implement with high hydrophilicity and specificity for online selective recognition of OTA.
