Abstract
We demonstrate for the first time the construction of a dual-mode biosensor for electrochemiluminescent (ECL) and electrochemical chiral recognition of l- and d-isomers of amino acids, with ferrocene (Fc) as both a signal enhancer and a signal tracer. With the dissolved oxygen as a coreactant, ZnIn2S4 acts as the ECL emitter to generate a weak cathodic ECL signal. Fc can enter into the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) cavity on ZnIn2S4-modified electrode as a result of host-guest interaction. Since Fc can promote H2O and O2 to produce abundant reactive oxygen species (ROS) (e.g., O2·- and ·OH), the ECL signal of ZnIn2S4 can be further amplified with Fc as a coreaction accelerator. Meanwhile, Fc molecules on the β-CD/ZnIn2S4-modified electrode can be electrochemically oxidized to Fc+ to produce a remarkable oxidation peak current. When l-histidine (l-His) is present, the matching of the l-His configuration with the β-CD cavity leads to the entrance of more l-His into the cavity of β-CD than d-histidine (d-His), and the subsequent competence of l-His with Fc on the Fc/β-CD/ZnIn2S4-modified electrode induces the decrease in both Fc peak current and ZnIn2S4-induced ECL intensity. This dual-mode biosensor can efficiently discriminate l-His from d-His, and it can sensitively monitor l-His with a detection limit of 7.60 pM for ECL mode and 3.70 pM for electrochemical mode. Moreover, this dual-mode biosensor can selectively discriminate l-His from other l- and d-isomers (e.g., threonine, phenylalanine, and glutamic acid), with potential applications in the chiral recognition of nonelectroactive chiral compounds, bioanalysis, and disease diagnosis.

Abstract
Enantioseparation by the electromigration-based method is well-established and widely discussed in the literature. Electrophoretic strategies have been used to baseline resolve complex enantiomeric mixtures, typically using a selector substance into the background electrolyte (BGE) from capillaries to microchips. Along with developing new materials/substances for enantioseparations, it is the concern about the green analytical chemistry (GAC) principles for method development and application. This review article brings a last decade's update on the publications involving enantioseparation by electrophoresis for capillary and microchip systems. It also brings a critical discussion on GAC principles and new green metrics in the context of developing an enantioseparation method. Chemical and green features of native and modified cyclodextrins are discussed. Still, given the employment of greener substances, ionic liquids and deep-eutectic solvents are highlighted, and some new selectors are proposed. For all the mentioned selectors, green features about their production, application, and disposal are considered. Sample preparation and BGE composition in GAC perspective, as well as greener derivatization possibilities, were also addressed. Therefore, one of the goals of this review is to aid the electrophoretic researchers to look where they have not.

Abstract
A new approach for evaluation of chiral purity of serine esterification products bearing long-chain alkyl substituents was developed. The compounds were simply converted to aryl-substituted oxazolines which: (i) facilitates effective chromatographic enantioseparation and (ii) enables direct detection using ultraviolet absorption. The method employs polysaccharide-based chiral stationary phase and allows enantioseparation of highly stable oxazoline products in less than 6 minutes using simple binary mobile phase. As opposed to the previously used normal phase method the developed method was performed in the reversed-phase mode. Aside from the benefits of switching to less hazardous solvents with regards to the principles of Green Chemistry, this has also led to reduction of the analysis time. In comparison with known serine chromophores, the best enantioseparation of aryloxazoline rigid structure may be achieved only based on non-polar interactions with chiral stationary phase. In contrast, substitution of the chromophore moiety with hydroxyl substituent affected intra and intermolecular interactions that caused enantioseparation differences. Concurrently, we found a high chirality retention of (R)- and (S)-configuration oxazoline standards (≥ 99% e.e.) during introduction of ultraviolet label. The method is suitable for rapid injection of mixture containing the ultraviolet absorption marker without prior purification. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

Abstract
At present, chiral electroanalysis of nonelectroactive chiral compounds still remains a challenge because they cannot provide an electrochemical signal by themselves. Here, a strategy based on a competitive self-assembly interaction of a ferrocene (Fc) unit and the testing isomers entering into the cavity of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was carried out for chiral electroanalysis. First of all, the Fc derivative was directly bridged to silica microspheres, followed by inclusion into the cavity of β-CD. As expected, once it was modified onto the surface of a carbon working electrode as an electrochemical sensor, SiO2@Fc-CD-WE, its differential pulse voltammetry signal would markedly decrease compared with the uncovered Fc. Next, when l- and d-isomers of amino acids that included histidine, threonine, phenylalanine, and glutamic acid were examined using SiO2@Fc-CD-WE, it showed an enantioselective entry of amino acids into the cavity of β-cyclodextrin instead of Fc, resulting in the release of Fc with signal enhancement. For histidine, glutamic acid, and threonine, l-isomers showed a higher peak current response compared with d-isomers. The peak current ratios between l- and d-isomers were 2.88, 1.21, and 1.40, respectively. At the same time, the opposite phenomenon occurred for phenylalanine with a peak current ratio of 3.19 between d- and l-isomers. In summary, we are assured that the recognition strategy based on the supramolecular interaction can enlarge the detection range of chiral compounds by electrochemical analysis.

Abstract
In this work, novel cyclodextrin-dendrimers nanocomposites functionalized high performance liquid chromatography stationary phases were developed for efficient separation of aromatic compounds. β-cyclodextrin was grafted onto the surface of silica gel matrix with poly (amidoamine) dendrimers as spacers. Scanning electron microscope, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, element analysis and Brunner-Emmet-Teller measurement proved the successful grafting of cyclodextrin-dendrimers nanocomposites. The obtained stationary phases showed satisfactory separation effects for alkylbenzenes and benzenesulfonic acid substituents in reverse phase liquid chromatography mode. Weak hydrophilic and ion exchange interactions were also confirmed at the same time. Meanwhile, the effects of dendrimers and cyclodextrin on the chromatography performance were discussed. Separation mechanism of the stationary phases were verified by two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance technology, and the result implied that the proposed cyclodextrin-dendrimers nanocomposites functionalized stationary phases have significant prospects for separation and determination of more aromatic compounds in future.

Abstract
Like many biological compounds, proteins are found primarily in their homochiral form. However, homochirality is not guaranteed throughout life. Determining their chiral proteinogenic sequence is a complex analytical challenge. This is because certain d-amino acids contained in proteins play a role in human health and disease. This is the case, for example, with d-Asp in elastin, β-amyloid and α-crystallin which, respectively, have an action on arteriosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and cataracts. Sequence-dependent and sequence-independent are the two strategies for detecting the presence and position of d-amino acids in proteins. These methods rely on enzymatic digestion by a site-specific enzyme and acid hydrolysis in a deuterium or tritium environment to limit the natural racemization of amino acids. In this review, chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques, such as LC, SFC, GC and CE, will be recently developed (2018–2020) for the enantioseparation of amino acids and peptides. For future work, the discovery and development of new chiral stationary phases and derivatization reagents could increase the resolution of chiral separations.

Abstract
β-Cyclodextrin can be functionalized by derivation of reactive hydroxyl on the ring due to its special chiral environment and structural characteristics, which can be used to identify or separate a variety of chiral substance. In this manuscript, a series of excellent chiral stationary phases for high-performance liquid chromatography were developed for enantioseparation by using anhydride modified β-cyclodextrin bearing chiral (R/S)-α-phenethylamine or (S)-(+)-2-amino-1-propanol. They were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and BET. These chiral stationary phases presented good resolution and repeatability, about 17 kinds of enantiomers were effectively separated. And most of enantiomers were separated better than those reported in the literature in the same both normal and reversed phase modes. The RSD values of Rs for repeatability and column-to-column were below 0.44% and 2.83%, respectively. All results revealed that these new CSPs show great prospect for chiral separation in actual applications.

Abstract
Because of its tunable textural properties and chirality feature, chiral mesoporous silica (CMS) gained significant consideration in many fields and has been developed rapidly in recent years. In this review, we provide an overview of synthesis strategies for fabricating CMS together with its main applications. The properties of CMS, including morphology and mesostructures and enantiomer excess (ee), can be altered according to the synthetic conditions during the synthesis process. Despite its primary stage, CMS has attracted extensive attention in many fields. In particular, CMS nanoparticles are widely used for enantioselective resolution and adsorption of chiral compounds with desirable separation capability. Also, CMS acts as a promising candidate for the effective delivery of chiral or achiral drugs to produce a chiral-responsive manner. Moreover, CMS also plays an important role in chromatographic separations and asymmetric catalysis. There has been an in-depth review of the synthetic methods and mechanisms of CMS. And this review aims to give a deep insight into the synthesis and application of CMS, especially in recent years, and highlights the significance that it may have in the future.
