Abstract
Per-poly fluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a group of synthetic fluorine compounds used in food packaging materials to repel water and fats. This study assessed the chemical migration of PFAS from different food contact materials, including cardboard, recycled cardboard, biopolymer, paper and Teflon trays, from various markets. Migration assays were conducted using Tenax® as a food simulant, which was optimized by subjecting it to three consecutive extractions with 3 mL of ethanol within an hour. The resulting extractions were combined and concentrated to 0.5 mL using a nitrogen stream. The analysis was performed using ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) coupled with ion-mobility (IMS) quadrupole-time-of-flight (QTOF) mass spectrometry, which provided a powerful and novel tool for identifying a library of targets containing collision cross section values (CCS) and increasing confidence in subsequent identifications. Eleven PFAS compounds belonging to the family of perfluorocarboxylic acid, perfluorosulfonic acid and perfluorooctanesulfonamidoacetic acid substances (PFCAs, PFSAs and FOSAAs) were found in packaging samples obtained from China, with migrant concentrations ranging 3.2 and 22.3 μg/kg. In contrast, no detectable levels of PFAS were observed in packaging samples obtained in Spain. All trays tested were deemed to be suitable for use as food contact materials due to the fact that their migrant values were lower than 0.025 mg/kg for PFOA and its salts, and lower than a maximum concentration of 1 mg/kg for PFOA-related compounds.

Abstract
Microwavable plastic food containers can be a source of toxic substances. Plastic materials such as polypropylene polymers are typically employed as safe materials in food packaging, but recent research demonstrates the migration of plastic substances or their by-products to food simulants, to foodstuff, and, more recently, to the human body through food consumption. However, a thorough evaluation of foodstuff in food contact materials under cooking conditions has not yet been undertaken. Here we show for the first time that plastic migrants present in food contact materials can react with natural food components resulting in a compound that combines a UV-photoinitiator (2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenylpropan-1-one) with maltose from potato starch; this has been identified after cooking potatoes in microwavable plastic food containers. Additionally, polypropylene glycol substances have been found to transfer into food through microwave cooking. Identifying these substances formed in situ requires state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometry instrumentation and metabolomics-based strategies.

Abstract
Due to recently introduced 'so-called' bio- and plant-based friendly food contact materials and articles (FCM/FCA), some neglected safety issues need to be raised. In this review, potential chemical contaminants from FCM/FCA made from or containing wood and bamboo are presented. Sources, migration, and analytical issues in determining contaminants including intentionally and non-intentionally added substances (IAS and NIAS, respectively) are reviewed. Most of the contaminants are components from melamine-formaldehyde-resin (MFR), paints and coatings, preservatives, and bleaching agents. Tableware made of MFR containing bamboo fibres as a filler are not always suitable for use as tableware since harmful amounts of melamine and formaldehyde can migrate from the tableware into food and even accelerate the degradation of certain polymers with which they are mixed. In addition, in the EU bamboo in plastic FCM is not authorized under Regulation (EU) 10/2011. Paints and coatings used to provide surface coverage for bamboo and wooden articles also pose a risk of migration of heavy metals. Limits on preservatives in wood FCM are covered by legislation in many countries, nevertheless their contamination should not be ignored. Some wood species are considered 'toxic' or contain 'toxic' constituents that should not be used in contact with food, which are worth considering for legislation. IAS analyses in bamboo and wooden FCM is generally not a problem, but has proven to be more challenging for NIAS. Due to a complex mixture of substances contained in plant-based materials, there is a need to improve databases for non-target screening of such chemicals.

Abstract
Tinuvin 622, an oligomeric light stabilizer, is widely used in plastics to reduce light and heat induced degradation and extend their service life, therefore its detection is of great importance for quality control of plastic products. However, the classical analytical methods of Tinuvin 622, such as chromatography and mass spectrometry, are difficult to achieve direct qualitative and quantitative analysis, and simultaneously to obtain the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution information. Herein, we propose for the first time the combination of gel permeation chromatography with multi-angle laser light scattering as a simple and direct method to detect Tinuvin 622 in polymers and simultaneously to obtain its molecular weight distribution information. The linearity of the method was good in the concentration range of 0.1-5.0 mg/mL Tinuvin 622 with correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.9999), and the recoveries of Tinuvin 622 at three addition levels ranged from 94.0% to 98.7%, with relative standard deviations of no more than 1.73%. The proposed method has been successfully used to detect Tinuvin 622 in actual samples of polymer additives. Compared with existing analytical methods, Tinuvin 622 has a single peak shape in our method, which is easy to identify and quantify accurately; more importantly, our method can simultaneously characterize the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of Tinuvin 622, which makes up for the shortcomings of other approaches and provides a new tool for quality monitoring of polymer additives.

Abstract
This review presents the most recent data on the state-of-the-art of the main compounds present in cork, their interaction with wine, and the impact that natural stoppers may have on wines’ physical-chemical and sensory properties. According to the recent scientific literature, the chemical composition of cork and the scientific relevance of the compounds extract from cork to wine over time are reviewed. Furthermore, the effect of cork compounds transfer into wines during post-bottling is also discussed, as well as their impact on the organoleptic (colour and taste) of wines. This knowledge is essential for the decision-making process undertaken by wine producers to select the stopper most suitable for their wines. In addition, sustainability is also a topic addressed since it is a natural product that generates some waste as well as the way in which this industry is adapting to the closure of the waste cycle.

Abstract
The chemicals in food contact materials (FCMs) can migrate into food and endanger human health. In this study, we developed a database of traveling wave collision cross section in nitrogen (TWCCSN2) values for extractables and leachables from FCMs. The database contains a total of 1038 TWCCSN2 values from 675 standards including those commonly used additives and nonintentionally added substances in FCMs. The TWCCSN2 values in the database were compared to previously published values, and 85.7, 87.7, and 64.9% [M + H]+, [M + Na]+, and [M - H]- adducts showed deviations <2%, with the presence of protomers, post-ion mobility spectrometry dissociation of noncovalent clusters and inconsistent calibration are possible sources of CCS deviations. Our experimental TWCCSN2 values were also compared to CCS values from three prediction tools. Of the three, CCSondemand gave the most accurate predictions. The TWCCSN2 database developed will aid the identification and differentiation of chemicals from FCMs in targeted and untargeted analysis.
