Abstract
In recent years, the increasingly severe pollution of heavy metals has posed a significant threat to the environment and human safety. Heavy metal ions are highly non-biodegradable, with a tendency to accumulate through biomagnification. Consequently, accurate detection of heavy metal ions is of paramount importance. As a new type of synthetic nanomaterials, single-atom nanozymes (SANs) boast exceptional enzyme-like properties, setting them apart from natural enzymes. This unique feature affords SANs with a multitude of advantages such as dispersed active sites, low cost and variety of synthetic methods over natural enzymes, making them an enticing prospect for various applications in industrial, medical and biological fields. In this paper, we systematically summarize the synthetic methods and catalytic mechanisms of SANs. We also briefly review the analytical methods for heavy metal ions and present an overall overview of the research progress in recent years on the application of SANs in the detection of environmental heavy metal ions. Eventually, we propose the existing challenges and provide a vision for the future.

Abstract
Although the function and stability of catalysts are known to significantly depend on their dispersion state and support interactions, the mechanism of catalyst loading has not yet been elucidated. To address this gap in knowledge, this study elucidates the mechanism of Pt loading based on a detailed investigation of the interaction between Pt species and localized polarons (Ce3+) associated with oxygen vacancies on CeO2(100) facets. Furthermore, an effective Pt loading method was proposed for achieving high catalytic activity while maintaining the stability. Enhanced dispersibility and stability of Pt were achieved by controlling the ionic interactions between dissolved Pt species and CeO2 surface charges via pH adjustment and reduction pretreatment of the CeO2 support surface. This process resulted in strong interactions between Pt and the CeO2 support. Consequently, the oxygen-carrier performance was improved for CH4 chemical looping reforming reactions. This simple interaction-based loading process enhanced the catalytic performance, allowing the efficient use of noble metals with high performance and small loading amounts.

Abstract
As a stable, low-cost, environment-friendly, and gas-sensitive material, semiconductor metal oxides have been widely used for gas sensing. In the past few years, single-atom catalysts (SACs) have gained increasing attention in the field of gas sensing with the advantages of maximized atomic utilization and unique electronic and chemical properties and have successfully been applied to enhance the detection sensitivity and selectivity of metal oxide gas sensors. However, the application of SACs in gas sensors is still in its infancy. Herein, we critically review the recent advances and current status of single-atom catalysts in metal oxide gas sensors, providing some suggestions for the development of this field. The synthesis methods and characterization techniques of SAC-modified metal oxides are summarized. The interactions between SACs and metal oxides are crucial for the stable loading of single-atom catalysts and for improving gas-sensitive performance. Then, the current application progress of various SACs (Au, Pt, Cu, Ni, etc.) in metal oxide gas sensors is introduced. Finally, the challenges and perspectives of SACs in metal oxide gas sensors are presented.

Abstract
Nanozymes, nanomaterials possessing enzymatic activity, have been studied extensively by researchers. However, their complex composition, low density of active sites, and inadequate substrate selectivity have hindered the maturation and widespread acceptance of nanozymes. Single-atom nanozymes (SAzymes) with atomically dispersed active sites are leading the field of catalysis due to their exceptional performance. The maximum utilization rate of atoms, low cost, well-defined coordination structure, and active sites are the most prominent advantages of SAzymes that researchers favor. This review systematically categorizes SAzymes based on their support type and describes their specific applications. Additionally, we discuss regulation strategies for SAzyme activity and provide a comprehensive summary of biosafety challenges associated with these enzymes.

Abstract
In this paper, a novel electrochemical sensor was constructed for the detection of purine bases. Ultrafine carbide nanocrystals confined within porous nitrogen-doped carbon dodecahedrons (PNCD) were synthesized by adding molybdate to ZIF-8 followed by annealing. With MoC-based PNCDs (MC-PNCDs) as the carrier, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were deposited on the electrode surface via potentiostatic deposition as the promoter of electron transfer, forming a AuNPs/MC-PNCDs/activated glassy carbon electrode (AGCE) sensor. MC-PNCDs had a large specific surface area, which combined with the excellent electrocatalytic activity of AuNPs, synergistically improved the electrocatalytic activity. The morphology and structure of the electrode surface modifier were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis, and electrochemical characterization. Under the optimal conditions, the linear detection range of guanine (G) and adenine (A) was 0.5-160.0 μM, and the detection limits (S/N=3) were 72.1 and 69.6 nM, respectively. AuNPs/MC-PNCDs/AGCE was successfully constructed, and was used to simultaneously detect G and A with high sensitivity and selectivity. Moreover, the sensor was successfully used to detect G and A in herring sperm DNA samples.

Abstract
The development of efficient H2O2 sensors is crucial because of their multiple functions inside and outside the biological system and the adverse effects that a higher concentration can cause. This work reports a highly sensitive and selective non-enzymatic electrochemical H2O2 sensor achieved through the hybridization of Co3S4 and graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets (GCNNS). The Co3S4 is synthesized via a hydrothermal method, and the bulk g-C3N4 (b-GCN) is prepared by the thermal polycondensation of melamine. The as-prepared b-GCN is exfoliated into nanosheets using solvent exfoliation, and the composite with Co3S4 is formed during nanosheet formation. Compared to the performances of pure components, the hybrid structure demonstrates excellent electroreduction towards H2O2. We investigate the H2O2-sensing performance of the composite by cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, and amperometry. As an amperometric sensor, the Co3S4/GCNNS exhibits high sensitivity over a broad linear range from 10 nM to 1.5 mM H2O2 with a high detection limit of 70 nM and fast response of 3 s. The excellent electrocatalytic properties of the composite strengthen its potential application as a sensor to monitor H2O2 in real samples. The remarkable enhancement of the electrocatalytic activity of the composite for H2O2 reduction is attributed to the synergistic effect between Co3S4 and GCNNS.

Abstract
Hydroquinone is a widely used derivative of phenol which has a negative influence on human beings and the environment. The determination of the accurate amount of hydroquinone is of great importance. Recently, the fabrication of an electrochemical sensing device has received enormous attention. In this study, we reported on the facile synthesis of cerium dioxide (CeO2) nanoparticles (NPs). The CeO2 NPs were synthesized using cerium nitrate hexahydrate as a precursor. For determining the physicochemical properties of synthesized CeO2 NPs, various advanced techniques, viz., powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), were studied. Further, these synthesized CeO2 NPs were used for the modification of a glassy carbon electrode (CeO2/GCE), which was utilized for the sensing of hydroquinone (HQ). A decent detection limit of 0.9 µM with a sensitivity of 0.41 µA/µM cm2 was exhibited by the modified electrode (CeO2/GCE). The CeO2/GCE also exhibited good stability, selectivity, and repeatability towards the determination of HQ.

Abstract
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is widely used in various industries and biological fields. H2O2 rapidly contaminants with water resources and hence simple detection process is highly wanted in various fields. The present study was focused on the biosensing, antimicrobial and embryotoxicity of bioinspired chitosan nanoparticles (Cs NPs), selenium nanoparticles (Se NPs), chitosan/selenium nanocomposites (Cs/Se NCs), silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and chitosan/silver nanocomposites (Cs/Ag NCs) synthesized using the aqueous Cucurbita pepo Linn. leaves extract. The physico-chemical properties of as-synthesized nanomaterials were confirmed by various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. Further, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sensing properties and their sensitivities were confirmed by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and chronoamperometry (CA) methods, in which Cs/Ag NCs showed pronounced sensing properties. In addition, the mode of antibacterial interaction results clearly demonstrated the effective inhibitory activity of as-prepared Ag NPs and Cs/Ag NCs against Gram negative pathogenic bacteria. The highest embryotoxicity was recorded at 0.19 μg/ml of Ag NPs and 1.56 μg/ml of Se NPs. Intriguingly, the embryo treated with Cs/Se NCs and Cs/Ag NCs significantly reduced the toxicity in the presence of Cs matrix. However, Cs/Se NCs did not show good response in H2O2 sensing than the Cs/Ag NCs, implying the biocompatibility of Cs/Ag NCs. Overall, the obtained results clearly suggest that Cs/Ag NCs could be suitable for dual applications such as for the detection of environmental pollutant biosensors and for biomedical research.
