Abstract
The title compound, C9H7NO2S crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit with Z = 8. Both mol-ecules are almost planar with a dihedral angle between the isoxazole and thio-phen rings of 3.67 (2)° in mol-ecule A and 10.00 (1) ° in mol-ecule B. The packing of mol-ecules A and B is of an ABAB⋯ type along the b-axis direction, the configuration about the C=C bond is Z. In the crystal, the presence of C-H⋯O, C-H⋯ N and π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances of 3.701 (2) and 3.766 (2) Å] link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional architecture. An analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces shows the importance of C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds in the packing mechanism of the crystalline structure.

Abstract
The synthesis of a small library of 8-substituted 2-methyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline derivatives is presented. All the compounds were tested for their antiproliferative activity in non-cancer human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1) and cancer cells: human T-lymphocyte cells (CEM), human cervix carcinoma cells (HeLa), human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1), colorectal adenocarcinoma (HT-29), ovarian carcinoma (A2780), and biphasic mesothelioma (MSTO-211H). Compounds 3a, 5a, and 2b, showing significant IC50 values against the whole panel of the selected cells, were further synthesized and tested as pure enantiomers in order to shed light on how their stereochemistry might impact on the related biological effect. The most active compound (R)-5a was able to affect cell cycle phases and to induce mitochondrial membrane depolarization and cellular ROS production in A2780 cells.

Abstract
4,4-Disubstituted 4H-isoxazol-5-ones bearing a 1,4-naphthoquinone moiety undergo transformation into different types of benzoindolyl products depending on the different reaction conditions. A decarboxylative ring opening/ring closure promoted by catalytic [Ru(p-cymene)2Cl2]2 yields benzo[f]indole-4,9-diones. Alternatively, hydrogenation reactions provide the conversion of 4-(1,4-naphthoquinone)-substituted isoxazol-5-ones to benzo[g]indole compounds, with the level of reduction depending on the substituents present on the ring. Starting materials have been easily prepared by the functionalization of isoxazolinones with naphthoquinone under mild conditions.

Diasterodivergent aminocatalyzed approaches starting from 4-alkylideneisoxazol-5-ones and methyl vinyl ketones have been developed for the synthesis of racemic 6,10-cis-spiroisoxazol-5-ones and highly enantioenriched 6,10-trans-spiroisoxazol-5-ones.

Abstract
A novel, scalable strategy for the preparation of 2,3,4,6-tetrasubstituted pyridines is described. This protocol has two steps: an aminocatalyzed addition of ketones to alkylidene isoxazol-5-ones, followed by an iron-mediated decarboxylative cyclization event. Mechanistic insights for both steps are provided based on HRMS-ESI(+) studies.

Abstract
Substituted pyridines are prevalent heterocycles of fundamental importance. Their efficient regioselective preparation is often still a challenge despite a large number of reported synthetic methodologies. In this letter we report an operationally simple approach that makes use of readily accessible isoxazolinones. The protocol involves a Pd(II)-catalyzed C-regioselective 1,4-addition to vinylketones, followed by a Pd(0)-catalyzed transformation, which is assumed to proceed via vinylnitrene-Pd intermediates. Both hydrogen and air are necessary for the pyridine formation step and could be employed at ratios above the upper explosive limit thus avoiding a safety issue. This new strategy allows an effective, scalable and practical access to various previously unknown 2,3,6-trisubstituted pyridines.

Abstract
A facile one-pot sequential conjugate addition/dearomative fluorination transformation of isoxazol-5(4H)-ones with nitroolefins and N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) has been developed. By using a bifunctional chiral tertiary amino-thiourea catalyst, a series of chiral fluorinated isoxazol-5(4H)-ones containing one fluorine-substituted quarternary stereocenter were obtained in high yields with high enantio- and diastereoselectivities. Further transformation of adducts could afford isoxazolidin-5-one derivatives with three contiguous stereocenters.

Abstract
Isoxazoles have significant hypoglycaemic, immunosuppressive, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial activities. A convenient high yielding procedure for the one-pot synthesis of 3-methyl-4-arylmethylene-isoxazol-5(4 H)-ones by the condensation of ethyl acetoacetate, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of sodium silicate pentahydrate as an efficient catalyst in water at room temperature is described.
