Synthesis of novel chiral fluorescent sensors and their application in enantioselective discrimination of chiral carboxylic acids

Novel chiral fluorescent sensors are synthesized from a dibromide containing a tetraphenylethylene moiety and enantiomerically pure amino alcohols and an amine. The sensors are applied for the chiral recognition of a wide range of chiral carboxylic acids and related derivatives.

Sensitized [2 + 2] intramolecular photocycloaddition of unsaturated enones using UV LEDs in a continuous flow reactor: kinetic and preparative aspects

A photocatalysed cycloaddition by benzophenone derivatives under flow and UVA LED irradiation is described.

UV-mediated hydrophosphinylation of unactivated alkenes with phosphinates under batch and flow conditions

A UV-mediated hydrophosphinylation of unactivated alkenes with H-phosphinates and hypophosphorous acid under radical free conditions is presented. The reaction affords selectively a large number of structurally diverse organophosphorous compounds in moderate to good yields under mild reaction conditions in the presence of an organic sensitizer as catalyst irradiated by UV-A LEDs. Furthermore, the high yielding hydrophosphinylation in continuous flow is disclosed.

Photochemical Schiemann Reaction in Ionic Liquids

Photochemical Schiemann reactions of imidazole derivatives 1 and 4 were carried out in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ionic liquid [bmim][BF(4)] as solvent. The effects of temperature, co-solvent and wavelength on the rate of the reaction and product yield were examined. The use of ionic liquid increases the yield of the photochemical fluorodediazoniation reaction of 2 at 0°C. Careful temperature control is necessary to minimize the photodecomposition of the ionic liquid in order to increase the yield of product.

Photoinduced Electron Transfer in Ionic Liquids: Use of 2,4,6-Triphenylthiapyrylium as a Photosensitizer Probe

The photochemistry of 2,4,6-triphenylthiapyrylium, TPTP+, in an ionic liquid, bmim-PF6, and in zeolite Y has been investigated and compared. Fluorescence spectroscopy was used to characterize the singlet excited state and to demonstrate singlet quenching by dicyclopentadiene, DCP, as an electron donor. Time-resolved laser spectroscopy documents generation of the triplet excited state, 3TPTP+, and reduction by DCP, generating the corresponding radical, TPTP*, and radical ion, DCP+*. The highly polar media stabilize the organic intermediates, causing them to be long lived.
