Abstract
Abstract Copper-free, Pd/C-catalyzed, one-pot reaction of 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline with hydrazine hydrate, bromine, phenylacetylene, and a variety of aldehydes provides an efficient and direct method for the preparation of 1-aryl-4-(2-phenylethynyl)[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalines in water at 70 °C. This methodology involves the use of inexpensive reagents or catalysts, and thus permits a new and practical access to triazolo[4,3-a]quinoxalines. Graphical abstract ![]()

Abstract
A library of furans has been synthesized by iodocyclization and further diversified by palladium-catalyzed coupling processes. The key intermediate 3-iodofurans have been prepared by the electrophilic iodocyclization of 2-iodo-2-alken-1-ones in the presence of various nucleophiles in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. These 3-iodofurans are the key components for library generation through subsequent elaboration by palladium-catalyzed processes, such as Suzuki-Miyaura, Sonagashira, Heck, aminocarbonylation, and carboalkoxylation chemistry to afford a diverse set of 2,3,4,5-tetrasubstituted furans.

Abstract
Screening of different sources of Pd/C shows reagents of highly variable nanoparticle sizes and oxidation states of the metal. Typically, catalysts with higher surface area are viewed as likely to be the more reactive. In this paper a new form of Pd/C, "UC Pd" is described that is shown to contain larger nanoparticles yet it is the most reactive catalyst of those sold commercially for Sonogashira coupling reactions. UC Pd functions efficiently in the absence of a copper co-catalyst, under very mild and "green" conditions using inexpensive 95% EtOH at 50 degrees C. It is also the only form of Pd/C that can be recycled. In side-by-side reactions with several commercially available forms of Pd/C, none compete successfully with UC Pd under standardized conditions. Physical data obtained from extensive surface analysis using TEM, XRD, XPS, and CO-TPD measurements lead to an explanation behind the unique reactivity of this new recyclable form of Pd/C.

Abstract
Conjugated alkynes are recurring building blocks in natural products, a wide range of industrial intermediates, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, and molecular materials for optics and electronics. The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling between sp(2)-hybridized carbon atoms of aryl, heteroaryl, and vinyl halides with sp-hybridized carbon atoms of terminal acetylenes is one of the most important developments in the field of alkyne chemistry over the past 50 years. The seminal work of the 1970s has initiated an intense search for more general and reliable reaction conditions. The interest in the catalytic activation of demanding substrates, the need to minimize the consumption of depletive resources, and the search for easy access to an increased variety of functionalized enynes has led to the current generations of high-turnover catalysts. This Review gives an overview of the highly efficient palladium catalyst systems for the direct alkynylation of C(sp(2)) halides with terminal alkynes, both in homogeneous and heterogeneous phases.

Abstract
The first successful Pd/C-mediated Sonogashira coupling of iodothiophene with terminal alkynes in water is described here. Pd/C-CuI-PPh(3) was found to be an efficient catalyst system for this coupling reaction. Using this economic and reliable process a variety of acetylenic thiophenes with a wide range of functional groups were prepared in good yields. Synthetic applications and in vitro anticancer properties of some of the compounds synthesized are described.
