Abstract
A new methodology for the reduction of a wide variety of aliphatic and aromatic sulfoxides catalyzed by the air-stable, cheap and commercially available manganese catalyst MnBr(CO)5 with excellent yields is reported in this work. The catalytic system MnBr(CO)5/PhSiH3 is highly chemoselective, allowing the effective reduction of the SO bond in the presence of different functional groups.

Abstract
Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes have been applied as efficient, inexpensive and benign catalysts to deoxygenation reactions of a diverse number of compounds in the last two decades. Dioxomolybdenum complexes have demonstrated wide applicability to the deoxygenation of sulfoxides into sulfides and reduction of N-O bonds. Even the challenging nitro functional group was efficiently deoxygenated, affording amines or diverse heterocycles after reductive cyclization reactions. More recently, carbon-based substrates like epoxides, alcohols and ketones have been successfully deoxygenated. Also, dioxomolybdenum complexes accomplished deoxydehydration (DODH) reactions of biomass-derived vicinal 1,2-diols, affording valuable alkenes. The choice of the catalytic systems and reductant is decisive to achieve the desired transformation. Commonly found reducing agents involved phosphorous-based compounds, silanes, molecular hydrogen, or even glycols and other alcohols.

Abstract
Because their site-selective C-H functionalizations are now considered one of the most useful tools for synthesizing various N-heterocyclic compounds, the highly chemoselective deoxygenation of densely functionalized N-heterocyclic N-oxides has received much attention from the synthetic chemistry community. Here, we provide a protocol for the highly chemoselective deoxygenation of various functionalized N-oxides under visible light-mediated photoredox conditions with Na2-eosin Y as an organophotocatalyst. Mechanistic studies imply that the excited state of the organophotocatalyst is reductively quenched by Hantzsch esters. This operationally simple technique tolerates a wide range of functional groups and allows high-yield, multigram-scale deoxygenation.

Abstract
The reaction of MoO42- with a number of phosphonic acids [bis(phosphonomethyl)glycine, R,S-hydroxyphosphonoacetic acid, 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-diphosphonic acid, phenylphosphonic acid, aminotris(methylene phosphonic acid), and 1,2-ethylenediphosphonic acid] under oxidizing (H2O2) hydrothermal conditions at low pH leads to rupture of the P-C bond, release of orthophosphate ions, and generation of the octanuclear, phosphate-bridged, polyoxometalate molybdenum cluster (NH4)5[Mo8(OH)2O24(μ8-PO4)](H2O)2 (POMPhos). This cluster has been fully characterized and its structure determined. It was studied as a proton conductor, giving moderate values of σ = 2.13 × 10-5 S·cm-1 (25 °C) and 1.17 × 10-4 S·cm-1 (80 °C) at 95% relative humidity, with Ea = 0.27 eV. The POMPhos cluster was then thermally treated at 310 °C, yielding (NH4)2.6(H3O)0.4(PO4Mo12O36) together with an amorphous impurity containing phosphate and molybdenum oxide. This product was also studied for its proton conductivity properties, giving rise to an impressively high value of σ = 2.43 × 10-3 S·cm-1 (25 °C) and 6.67 × 10-3 S·cm-1 (80 °C) at 95% relative humidity, 2 orders of magnitude higher than those corresponding to the "as-synthesized" solid. The utilization of POMPhos in catalytic reduction of different sulfoxides was also evaluated. POMPhos acts as an efficient homogeneous catalyst for the reduction of diphenyl sulfoxide to diphenyl sulfide, as a model reaction. Pinacol was used as a low-cost, environmentally friendly, and highly efficient reducing agent. The effects of different reaction parameters were investigated, namely the type of solvent and reducing agent, presence of acid promoter, reaction time and temperature, loading of catalyst and pinacol, allowing to achieve up to 84-99% yields of sulfide products under optimized conditions. Substrate scope was tested on the examples of diaryl, alkylaryl, dibenzyl, and dialkyl sulfoxides and excellent product yields were obtained.

Abstract
The reaction mechanism for imine hydrosilylation in the presence of an iron methyl complex and hydrosilane was studied using density functional theory at the M06/6-311G(d,p) level of theory. Benzylidenemethylamine (PhCH = NMe) and trimethylhydrosilane (HSiMe3 ) were employed as the model imine and hydrosilane, respectively. Hydrosilylation has been experimentally proposed to occur in two stages. In the first stage, the active catalyst (CpFe(CO)SiMe3 , 1) is formed from the reaction of pre-catalyst, CpFe(CO)2 Me, and hydrosilane through CO migratory insertion into the FeMe bond and the reaction of the resulting acetyl complex intermediate with hydrosilane. In the second stage, 1 catalyzes the reaction of imine with hydrosilane. Calculations for the first stage showed that the most favorable pathway for CO insertion involved a spin state change, that is, two-state reactivity mechanism through a triplet state intermediate, and the acetyl complex reaction with HSiMe3 follows a σ-bond metathesis pathway. The calculations also showed that, in the catalytic cycle, the imine coordinates to 1 to form an FeCN three-membered ring intermediate accompanied by silyl group migration. This intermediate then reacts with HSiMe3 to yield the hydrosilylated product through a σ-bond metathesis and regenerate 1. The rate-determining step in the catalytic cycle was the coordination of HSiMe3 to the three-membered ring intermediate, with an activation energy of 23.1 kcal/mol. Imine hydrosilylation in the absence of an iron complex through a [2 + 2] cycloaddition mechanism requires much higher activation energies. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract
In this study, we theoretically investigated the mechanism underlying the high-valent mono-oxo-rhenium(V) hydride Re(O)HCl2(PPh3)2 (1) catalyzed hydrosilylation of C=N functionalities. Our results suggest that an ionic S(N)2-Si outer-sphere pathway involving the heterolytic cleavage of the Si-H bond competes with the hydride pathway involving the C=N bond inserted into the Re-H bond for the rhenium hydride (1) catalyzed hydrosilylation of the less steric C=N functionalities (phenylmethanimine, PhCH=NH, and N-phenylbenzylideneimine, PhCH=NPh). The rate-determining free-energy barriers for the ionic outer-sphere pathway are calculated to be ∼28.1 and 27.6 kcal mol(-1), respectively. These values are slightly more favorable than those obtained for the hydride pathway (by ∼1-3 kcal mol(-1)), whereas for the large steric C=N functionality of N,1,1-tri(phenyl)methanimine (PhCPh=NPh), the ionic outer-sphere pathway (33.1 kcal mol(-1)) is more favorable than the hydride pathway by as much as 11.5 kcal mol(-1). Along the ionic outer-sphere pathway, neither the multiply bonded oxo ligand nor the inherent hydride moiety participate in the activation of the Si-H bond.
