Abstract
Natural metabolites from microorganisms play significant roles in the discovery of drugs, both for disease treatments in humans, and applications in agriculture. The Basidiomycetes Stereum genus has been a source of such bioactive compounds. Here we report on the structures and activities of secondary metabolites from Stereum. Their structural types include sesquiterpenoids, polyketides, vibralactones, triterpenoids, sterols, carboxylic acids and saccharides. Most of them showed biological activities including cytotoxic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, radical scavenging activity, autophagy inducing activity, inhibiting pancreatic lipase against malarial parasite, nematocidal and so on. The syntheses of some metabolites have been studied. In this review, 238 secondary metabolites from 10 known species and various unidentified species of Stereum were summarized over the last seven decades.

Abstract
The use of photochemical transformations is a powerful strategy that allows for the formation of a high degree of molecular complexity from relatively simple building blocks in a single step. A central feature of all light-promoted transformations is the involvement of electronically excited states, generated upon absorption of photons. This produces transient reactive intermediates and significantly alters the reactivity of a chemical compound. The input of energy provided by light thus offers a means to produce strained and unique target compounds that cannot be assembled using thermal protocols. This review aims at highlighting photochemical transformations as a tool for rapidly accessing structurally and stereochemically diverse scaffolds. Synthetic designs based on photochemical transformations have the potential to afford complex polycyclic carbon skeletons with impressive efficiency, which are of high value in total synthesis.

Abstract
The marasmane sesquiterpenoid structure can be found in the skeleton of a variety of natural products bearing interesting bioactivity. The unique fused-5,6,3-tricyclic ring structure, in which the rings are cis-fused and the five- and three-membered rings are mutually trans, provides a synthetic challenge for organic chemists. In this work, we took advantage of the photoinduced decarbonylative rearrangement of bicyclo[2.2.2]octenone to develop a new methodology for construction of the highly functionalized fused-5,6,3-tricyclic ring structure in a concise reaction sequence.

Rhodium-catalyzed [5 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition of ene-vinylcyclopropanes and CO: reaction design, development, application in natural product synthesis, and inspiration for developing new reactions for synthesis of eight-membered carbocycles. Abstract
Practical syntheses of natural products and their analogues with eight-membered carbocyclic skeletons are important for medicinal and biological investigations. However, methods and strategies to construct the eight-membered carbocycles are limited. Therefore, developing new methods to synthesize the eight-membered carbocycles is highly desired. In this Account, we describe our development of three rhodium-catalyzed cycloadditions for the construction of the eight-membered carbocycles, which have great potential in addressing the challenges in the synthesis of medium-sized ring systems. The first reaction described in this Account is our computationally designed rhodium-catalyzed two-component [5 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition of ene-vinylcyclopropanes (ene-VCPs) and CO for the diastereoselective construction of bi- and tricyclic cyclooctenones. The design of this reaction is based on the hypothesis that the C(sp(3))-C(sp(3)) reductive elimination of the eight-membered rhodacycle intermediate generated from the rhodium-catalyzed cyclopropane cleavage and alkene insertion, giving Wender's [5 + 2] cycloadduct, is not easy. Under CO atmosphere, CO insertion may occur rapidly, converting the eight-membered rhodacycle into a nine-membered rhodacycle, which then undergoes an easy C(sp(2))-C(sp(3)) reductive elimination process and furnishes the [5 + 2 + 1] product. This hypothesis was supported by our preliminary DFT studies and also served as inspiration for the development of two [7 + 1] cycloadditions: the [7 + 1] cycloaddition of buta-1,3-dienylcyclopropanes (BDCPs) and CO for the construction of cyclooctadienones, and the benzo/[7 + 1] cycloaddition of cyclopropyl-benzocyclobutenes (CP-BCBs) and CO to synthesize the benzocyclooctenones. The efficiency of these rhodium-catalyzed cycloadditions can be revealed by the application in natural product synthesis. Two eight-membered ring-containing natural products, (±)-asterisca-3(15),6-diene and (+)-asteriscanolide, have been synthesized using the [5 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition as the key step. In the latter case, excellent asymmetric induction was obtained using a chiral substrate. The efficiency of the [5 + 2 + 1] reaction was further demonstrated by the synthesis of four sesquiterpene natural products, (±)-pentalenene, (+)-hirsutene, (±)-1-desoxyhypnophilin, and (±)-hirsutic acid C, containing linear or branched triquinane skeletons utilizing the tandem or stepwise [5 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition/aldol reaction strategy. With the success of [5 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition in natural product synthesis, application of the [7 + 1] and benzo/[7 + 1] cycloadditions in target- and function-oriented syntheses can be envisioned.

Abstract
7-Silyl- and 7-silylmethylcycloheptatrienes were shown to react with acylnitroso reagents at room temperature, through their norcaradiene forms, to generate the corresponding cycloadducts 5 a-b and 6 a-b as single diastereomers. The course of the reaction was dramatically modified by changing the reaction conditions. Using a polar medium, functionalized cyclohexa-1,3-dienes 7 a-b and bicyclic compounds 13 a-b were instead generated, incorporating one or two amino groups. Similar behavior was observed by using other dienophiles, including triazolinedione, but also activated aldehydes and ketones. A tentative mechanism has been proposed to rationalize the formation of both classes of products that relies on a domino process involving four consecutive elementary steps, in this order: 1) electrocyclic process, 2) hetero-Diels-Alder reaction, 3) cyclopropane ring opening, and 4) hetero-Diels-Alder reaction. Trapping of the cationic intermediate and isolation of the primary cycloadduct provide support for this hypothesis. An enantioselective version of the cascade using cycloheptatriene 4 b and aldehydes and ketones, under copper(II) catalysis was also carried out, leading to cyclohexa-1,3-dienes 21, 28, and 30 with enantioselectivities up to 93 % ee. Finally, elaboration of the intermediates above has been carried out, opening a straightforward access to sugar mimics 42-43 and complex polycyclic systems 36 and 39.

Abstract
Photochemical reactions contribute in a significant way to the existing repertoire of carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions by allowing access to exceptional molecular structures that cannot be obtained by conventional means. In this Review, the most important photochemical transformations that have been employed in natural product synthesis are presented. Selected total syntheses are discussed as examples, with particular attention given to the photochemical key step and its stereoselectivity. The structural relationship between the photochemically generated molecule and the natural product is shown, and, where necessary, the consecutive reactions in the synthesis are illustrated and classified.

Abstract
A total synthesis of the title natural product, 1, has been achieved using the cis-1,2-dihydrocatechol 7 as starting material. Compound 7 is readily obtained in large quantity and in an enantiomerically pure form through the whole-cell biotransformation of toluene using the genetically engineered microorganism E. coli JM109 (pDTG601) that overexpresses the enzyme toluene dioxygenase (TDO). Three key chemical steps were employed in the synthesis, the first of which was the microwave-promoted Diels–Alder cycloaddition reaction between diene 8 and cyclopent-1-en-2-one to give adduct 9. The second key step was the photochemically promoted oxa-di-π-methane rearrangement of the bicyclo[2.2.2]octenone derivative 15 of 9 to give the epimers 16 and 17, and the third key step was the reductive cleavage of the last pair of compounds so as to afford the linear triquinane 19. Elaboration of compound 19 to target 1 followed established procedures. Single-crystal X-ray analyses were carried out on compounds 11 and 19.
