Abstract
Although chemical methods for the selective derivatization of amino acid (AA) side chains in peptides and proteins are available, selective N-terminal labeling is challenging, especially for glycine, which has no side chain at the α-carbon position. We report here a double activation at glycine's α-methylene group that allows this AA to be differentiated from the other 19 AAs. A condensation reaction of dibenzoylmethane with glycine results in the formation of an imine, and subsequent tautomerization is followed by intramolecular cyclization, leading to the formation of a fluorescent pyrrole ring. Additionally, the approach exhibits compatibility with AAs possessing reactive side chains. Further, the method allows for selective pull-down assays of N-terminal glycine peptides from mixtures without prior knowledge of the N-terminal peptide distribution.

Abstract
Low-valent tungsten species generated from WCl6 and N,N'-bis(trimethylsilyl)-2,5-dimethyldihydropyrazine (Si-Me2-DHP) promotes the catalytic formation of N-phenyl-2,3,4,5-tetraarylpyrroles 3aa-ka from diarylacetylenes 1a-k and azobenzene (2a). An initial catalyst activation process is a three-electron reduction of WCl6 with Si-Me2-DHP to afford transient 'WCl3' species. Catalytically active bis(imido)tungsten(VI) species via successive one-electron reduction and N═N bond cleavage of 2a was revealed by isolating W(═NPh)2Cl2(PMe2Ph)2 from imidotungsten(V) trichloride and 2a in the presence of PMe2Ph. The superior catalytic activity of the tungsten catalyst was clarified by a density functional theory study: activation energies for the key three steps, [2 + 2]-cycloaddition of W═NPh and diarylacetylene to form (iminoalkylidene)tungsten species, enyne metathesis with second diarylacetylene, and C-N bond formation, are reasonable values for the catalytic reaction at 180 °C. In addition, this tungsten catalyst overcame two distinct deactivation processes: α-enediamido formation and aggregation of the low-valent species, both of which were observed for previously developed vanadium and titanium catalysts. We also demonstrated the synthetic utility of pentaarylpyrroles 3aa and 3ba as well as N-(2-bromophenyl)-2,3,4,5-tetraarylpyrrole 3ab by derivatizing their π-conjugated compounds 9aa, 10ba, and 11ab.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed [2+2+1] annulation of alkynes and hydroxylamines has been developed for the rapid construction of fully substituted pyrroles. This transformation involves sequential nucleophilic-addition of hydroxylamine to alkyne, alkyne migratory insertion, and synergistic demetallization cyclization, which provides a redox-neutral annulation approach to pyrrole derivatives. Moreover, the strategy enabled alteration of the photophysical properties of pyrrole products by varying the aryl substituents, thus leading to the development of N-functionalized tetraarylpyrroles as new fluorophores.

Abstract
An efficient and green route of C-C bond formation was disclosed to construct 2,3-diaryl-1,4-diketones from α-methylene ketones by the catalysis of tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as an oxidant in water. This reaction affords the desired products in good to excellent yields from readily available materials, with a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and mild reaction conditions. Furthermore, tetrasubstituted furan and pyrrole were smoothly constructed from α-methylene ketones in one pot with 96 and 90% yields, respectively.

Abstract
The metal-free, direct conversion of readily available proline derivatives into 2-aryl-3-iodopyrrolidines is carried out under mild conditions and in good yields, using a sequential radical decarboxylation-oxidation-iodination-arylation reaction. These iodinated pyrrolidines are valuable precursors of other compounds. For instance, they can be cyclized to tricyclic compounds or undergo dehalogenation to 2-aryl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrroles, which are iminosugar and 2-arylpyrrole precursors. This process provides a short pathway to a variety of alkaloid and drug analogues of potential pharmaceutical interest.

Abstract
A series of 2,2'-bipyrroles has been efficiently synthesized using an improved synthetic approach based on Pd(0)-catalyzed homocoupling of various 2-iodopyrroles. This new synthetic approach takes place at room temperature and in the presence of water. Functional groups such as formyl, ester, and nitrile are able to survive these reaction conditions. Solvents are found to play an important role in this reaction.
