Abstract
A catalyzed process for the synthesis of the 4,6-substituted 3,4-dihydro-1,3-oxazin-2-one skeleton has been developed through cycloaddition of in situ generated acyliminium intermediates with alkynes. A range of chain N,O-acetals and terminal alkynes were amenable for this mild transformation. As a result, a series of desired cycloaddition products were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
The Petasis boron-Mannich reaction, simply referred to as the Petasis reaction, is a powerful multicomponent coupling reaction of a boronic acid, an amine, and a carbonyl derivative. Highly functionalized amines with multiple stereogenic centers can be efficiently accessed via the Petasis reaction with high levels of both diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity. By drawing attention to examples reported in the past 8 years, this Review demonstrates the breadth of the reactivity and synthetic applications of Petasis reactions in several frontiers: the expansion of the substrate scope in the classic three-component process; nonclassic Petasis reactions with additional components; Petasis-type reactions with noncanonical substrates, mechanism, and products; new asymmetric versions assisted by chiral catalysts; combinations with a secondary or tertiary transformation in a cascade- or sequence-specific manner to access structurally complex, natural-product-like heterocycles; and the synthesis of polyhydroxy alkaloids and biologically interesting molecules.

Abstract
The Petasis three-component reaction (PR) of hydroxy aldehydes, amines and boronic acids is an important multi-component reaction for the synthesis of structurally diverse scaffolds and biologically interesting small molecules. The reaction has been significantly explored in the past decade, and many new variants have emerged, such as asymmetric, traceless and four-component approaches. The excellent stereoselectivity, high yield and broad functional group tolerance altogether make this reaction ideal for fragment and compound collection synthesis, since orthogonal chemical handles can be incorporated for subsequent scaffold formation and appendage modification. Herein we present a selection of recent variations on the PR theme for the synthesis of scaffolds of relevance to medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
Enamides equipped with N-acyliminium ion precursors were obtained through reduction of ynamides tethered to N-imides. Intramolecular TMSOTf-mediated trapping of N-acyliminium ions provided a variety of polyfunctionalized medium-sized diaza-heterocycles of putative pharmacological interest.

Abstract
The synthesis of (3E)-1-benzyl-3-[(2-oxopyridin-1(2H)-yl)methylidene]piperidine-2,6-dione 5 from N-benzylglutarimide was achieved in three steps. The asymmetric hydrogenation of 4 gave either the product of partial reduction (10) or full reduction (13), depending on the catalyst which was employed, in high ee in each case. Attempts at asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of resulted in formation of a racemic product.

Abstract
A concise synthesis of 3-(1-alkenyl)isoindolin-1-ones and 5-(1-alkenyl)pyrrol-2-ones has been achieved by the coupling reactions of N-acyliminium ions produced from 3-hydroxyisoindol-1-ones or 5-hydroxy-1-pyrrol-2-ones with unactivated olefins in the presence of BF3·OEt2 at room temperature. For most of the olefins, the reactions afforded the Csp3–Csp2 cross-coupling products, but for the α-methylstyrene and 1-hexene, the Csp3–Csp3 cross-coupling products were obtained.

Abstract
The stereoselective nucleophilic addition of potassium alkyltrifluoroborates to cyclic N-acyliminium ions derived from N-benzyl-3,4,5-triacetoxy-pyrrolidin-2-one, which affords 5-substituted-pyrrolidin-2-ones, is described. The products are obtained in moderate to good yields and are produced predominantly as the anti diastereomer.

Abstract
Herein we report the conversion of aldehyde-containing potassium and tetrabutylammonium organotrifluoroborates to the corresponding amines through reductive amination protocols. Potassium formate facilitated by catalytic palladium acetate, sodium triacetoxyborohydride, and pyridine borane have all served as effective hydride donors, reducing the initially formed imines or iminium ions to provide the corresponding amines.
