Abstract
Catalysts capable of heterolytic silane activation have been successfully applied to the conversion of alkyl ethers to silyl ethers via C-O bond cleavage. The previously-reported cationic pincer-supported iridium complex for this transformation suffers from poor selectivity with regard to monodealkylation of substrate ethers. We demonstrate that a simple non-pincer iridium complex offers improved selectivity and is capable of benzylic ether cleavage in the presence of reductively-labile alkyl and aryl halide functionality. Preliminary mechanistic experiments suggest a neutral tetrahydridosilyliridium resting state which is consistent with previous mechanistic hypotheses. These experiments suggest that a pincer ligand framework is not required for activity in ether cleavage reactions and that simple cationic bis(phosphine)iridium complexes may offer improved selectivity profiles for applications to more-complex substrate molecules.

Abstract
Covering: 2008 to 2015. A review on the isolation, biological activity and synthesis of pyranonaphthoquinone natural products from 2008-2015 is providedThis review discusses the isolation, biological activity and synthesis of pyranonaphthoquinone natural products, covering the years 2008-2015. The pyranonaphthoquinones are a group of metabolites sharing a common naphtho[2,3-c]pyran-5,10-dione ring system that have been isolated from a wide range of microorganisms, plants and insects. In addition to their synthetically challenging molecular structures, pyranonaphthoquinones exhibit a wide array of biological activity, including anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-cancer properties. The therapeutic potential of these compounds has led to a dynamic interplay between total synthesis and biological evaluation.

Abstract
A stereoselective synthetic approach was utilized to synthesize enantiopure annuionones A (1b) and B (2b), two ionone-type norsesquiterpenoids that both bear a 6-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]octane framework and possess allelopathic activity. A stereoselective Diels-Alder reaction based on chiral trisubstituted dienophile 20 was employed to obtain the optically active polysubstituted cyclohexane core of both natural products. Using this approach, (+)-annuionone A (1b) and (-)-annuionone B (2b) were synthesized from lactol (+)-15 in 10% overall yield.

Abstract
Making use of the Hauser-Kraus annulation as a key step, the first total synthesis of tetarimycin A has been accomplished in a highly convergent and operationally simple manner. Preliminary SAR not only validated that tetarimycin A exhibited potent activity against MRSA and VRE at a low MIC value but also identified that the hydroxyl group at C-10 was essential for antibacterial activities.
