Abstract
Sphingolipids play crucial roles in cellular membranes, myelin stability, and signalling responses to physiological cues and stress. Among them, sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) has been recognized as a relevant biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases, and its analogue FTY-720 has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. Focusing on these targets, we here report three novel polymeric capture phases for the selective extraction of the natural biomarker and its analogue drug. To enhance analytical performance, we employed different synthetic approaches using a cationic monomer and a hydrophobic copolymer of styrene-DVB. Results have demonstrated high affinity of the sorbents towards S1P and fingolimod phosphate (FTY-720-P, FP). This evidence proved that lipids containing phosphate diester moiety in their structures did not constitute obstacles for the interaction of phosphate monoester lipids when loaded into an SPE cartridge. Our suggested approach offers a valuable tool for developing efficient analytical procedures.

Abstract
A new cyclometalated Ir(III) complex of a methylene-bridged benzimidazole-substituted 1,2,3-triazole methanol ligand has been synthesized for the photoluminescent detection of pyrophosphate (H2P2O72-) anions. The solution structure of 1[PF6] was fully characterized by 1D (1H, 13C) and 2D (1H-1H COSY, 1H-13C HSQC, and 1H-13C HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, and ESI-HRMS. The 1[PF6] acted as a highly selective luminescent sensor for H2P2O72- in CH3CN over other competitive ions, including H2PO4-, ATP, ADP and AMP. The PL titration of 1[PF6] with H2P2O72- in CH3CN furnished the association constant Ka = 8.6 × 107 M-1 and a low detection limit of ∼127 nM. The structure of the analyte interacting ligand renders the Ir(III) complex-based probe highly selective for H2P2O72- ions. The PL enhancement with H2P2O72- is due to the hydrogen bonding interaction of H2P2O72- with the triazole C-H, imidazole N-H, methylene hydrogen and hydroxyl groups of the ligand that has been supported by 1H NMR titration. Further, the PL enhancement of 1·H2P2O72- adducts was supported by triplet-state TDDFT calculations. In 1·H2P2O72-, the 3MLCT-3MC energy gap is increased, and the 1·H2P2O72- emits efficiently from the 3MLCT and 3ILCT excited states. Finally, a cytotoxicity study and live-cell imaging were performed. The probe showed low cytotoxicity against HeLa cells and was suitable for intracellular pyrophosphate imaging.

Abstract
The goal of the present work was to fabricate a new low-cost, easy-to-prepare, dual-channel fluorescence chemosensor comprised of acridine-diphenylacetyl moieties (NDA) to enable remarkable Sn4+ detection in water and biological medium. The resulting NDA-Sn4+ complex was utilized for the distinguished identification of Cr2O72- ions from other anions and biomolecules. These investigations involve the absorption, fluorescence, and electrochemical methods for the detection of Sn4+ and Cr2O72- ions in pure water. The mechanism for NDA-mediated Sn4+ detection was experimentally determined by FT-IR, NMR titrations, mass (ESI) analyses, and DFT calculations. The obtained results indicate that the NDA chemosensor possessed excellent performance characteristics including good water solubility and compatibility, quick response time (less than 10 s), high sensitivity (Sn4+ = 0.268 μM and Cr2O72- = 0.160 μM), and selectivity against coexisting metals, anions, amino acids, and peptides. The chemosensor NDA induced negligible toxicity in live cells and was successfully utilized as a biomarker for the tracking of Sn4+ in human normal and cancer cells. More importantly, NDA demonstrates distinguished recognition of Sn4+ in human cancer cells rather than in normal live cells. Additionally, NDA was shown to act as a mitochondria-targeted probe in FaDu cells.

Abstract
A new selective probe based on copper complex of Indigo Carmine (IC-Cu2) for colorimetric, naked-eye, and fluorimetric recognition of mono hydrogen phosphate (MHP) ion in H2O/DMSO (4:1v/v, 1.0mmolL-1 HEPES buffer solution pH7.5) was developed. Detection limit of HPO42- determination, achieved by fluorimetric and 3lorimetric method, are 0.071 and 1.46μmolL-1, respectively. Potential, therefore is clearly available in IC-Cu2 complex to detect HPO42- in micromolar range via dual visible color change and fluorescence response. Present method shows high selectivity toward HPO42- over other phosphate species and other anions and was successfully utilized for analysis of P2O5 content of a fertilizer sample. The results obtained by proposed chemosensor presented good agreement with those obtained the colorimetric reference method. INHIBIT and IMPLICATION logic gates operating at molecular level have been achieved using Cu2+and HPO42- as chemical inputs and UV-Vis absorbance signal as output.

Abstract
Herein we explore phospholipid imprinting as a means to design receptors for complex glycolipids comprising the toxic lipopolysaccharide endotoxin. A series of polymerizable bis-imidazolium and urea hosts were evaluated as cationic and neutral hosts for phosphates and phosphonates, the latter used as mimics of the phospholipid head groups. The bis-imidazolium hosts interacted with the guests in a cooperative manner leading to the presence of tight and well defined 1:2 ternary complexes. Optimized monomer combinations were subsequently used for imprinting of phosphatidic acid as an endotoxin dummy template. Presence of the aforementioned ternary complexes during polymerization resulted in imprinting of lipid dimers - the latter believed to crudely mimic the endotoxin Lipid A motif. The polymers were characterized with respect to template rebinding, binding affinity, capacity and common structural properties, leading to the identification of polymers which were thereafter subjected to an industrially validated endotoxin removal test. Two of the polymers were capable of removing endotoxin down to levels well below the accepted threshold (0.005 EU/mg API) in pharmaceutical production.

Abstract
4,5-Bis(N,N-di(2-hydroxyethyl)iminomethyl)acridine (BHIA) is a new acridine based fluoroionophore and a highly-selective sensor for cadmium ion. The direct interaction of the aromatic nitrogen atom with a surface is impossible since there are bulky substituents in the 4,5-positions of the acridine fragment. Nevertheless BHIA molecule shows a reliable SERS spectrum while adsorbed on a silver electrode. The analysis of SERS spectra pH dependence reveals that BHIA species adsorbed on a surface can exist in both non-protonated and protonated forms. The adsorption of BHIA from alkaline solution is accompanied by carbonaceous species formation at the surface. The intensity of such "carbon bands" turned out to be related with the supporting electrolyte (KCl) concentration. Upon lowering the electrode potential the SERS spectra of BHIA do not undergo changes but the intensity of bands decreases. This indicates that the adsorption mechanism on the silver surface is realized via aromatic system of acridine fragment. In case of such an adsorption mechanism the chelate fragment of the BHIA molecule is capable of interaction with the solution components. Addition of Cd(2+) ions to a system containing BHIA adsorbed on a silver electrode in equilibrium with the solution leads to the formation of BHIA/Cd(2+) complex which desorption causes the loss of SERS signal.

Abstract
4,5-Bis(hydroxymethyl) acridine (sensor 1) has been discovered and synthesized as a simple-structured Pd(2+) fluorescent probe. Sensor 1 showed highly selective recognition toward Pd(2+) over other examined metal ions in aqueous solution. Under the optimized condition, fluorescence intensity was linearly proportional to the concentration of Pd(2+) in the 0-1 μM concentration range with detection limits of 0.021 μM. The EDTA-adding and stoichiometry experiments indicated that sensor 1 was a reversible chemosensor for Pd(2+) with a 2:1 ligand/metal complex at neutral pH. Moreover, the sensor 1 was also successfully applied to determination of Pd(2+) in water samples and palladium-containing catalyst, which made it attractive for sensing applications.

Abstract
Two new pseudopeptidic molecules (one macrocyclic and one open chain) containing an acridine unit have been prepared. The fluorescence response of these receptors to a series of acids was measured in CHCl(3). Receptors are selective to H(2)PO(4)(-) versus HSO(4)(-), and an even higher selectivity is found over other anions such as Cl(-), Br(-), CH(3)COO(-), and CF(3)COO(-). We show that the macrocyclic receptor is more selective for H(2)PO(4)(-) than the related open chain receptor. The supramolecular interactions of triprotonated receptors with different anions have been modeled in silico and have been studied by different experimental techniques. Optimized geometries obtained by computational calculations agree well with experimental data, in particular fluorescence experiments, suggesting that the selective supramolecular interaction takes places through coordination of the anions to the triprotonated form of the receptor.
