Abstract
Dihydronaphthofurans (DHNs) are an important class of arene ring-fused furans which are widely found in many natural and non-natural products and drug candidates with relevant biological and pharmacological activities. Furthermore, vinylidene-naphthofurans exhibit photochromic properties when exposed to UV or sun light at room temperature. For these reasons, a vast array of synthetic procedures for the preparation of dihydronaphthofurans including annulation of naphthols with various reagents, cycloaddition reactions ([3 + 2], [4 + 1] and Diels-Alder), intramolecular transannulation, Friedel-Crafts, Wittig, Claisen rearrangement, neophyl rearrangement and other reactions under various conditions have been developed over the past decades. This review aims to describe the different strategies developed so far for the synthesis of dihydronaphthofurans and their applications. After a brief introduction to the types of dihydronaphthofurans and their biological activities, the different synthetic approaches such as chemical, photochemical, and electrochemical, methods are described and organized on the basis of the catalysts and the other reagents employed in the syntheses. The subsequent section focuses on biological and pharmacological applications and photochromic properties of the target compounds.

Abstract
We have developed an asymmetric aza-Wacker-type cyclization of N-Ts hydrazine-tethered tetrasubstituted olefins, affording optically active pyrazolines bearing chiral tetrasubstituted carbon stereocenters. This reaction is tolerant to a broad range of substrates under mild reaction conditions, giving the desired chiral products with high enantioselectivities. Generation of two vicinal stereocenters on the C═C double bonds was also achieved with high selectivities, a process which has been rarely studied for Wacker-type reactions. A mechanistic study revealed that this aza-Wacker-type cyclization undergoes a syn-aminopalladation process. It was also found that for substrates bearing two linear alkyl substituents on the outer carbon atom of the olefin, both of which are larger than a methyl group, the alkyl substituent that is cis to the intranucleophilic group participates more readily in β-hydride elimination. When one of the two alkyl substituents on the outer carbon atom of the olefin is a methyl group, β-hydride elimination proceeds selectively at the methylene side, thus both diastereomers can be prepared via switching the configuration of the olefin. Furthermore, the product can be converted to a pharmaceutical compound in high yields over three steps.

Abstract
A PdII -catalyzed oxidative tandem cyclization was developed for the construction of fused 5,6-bicyclic N, O-heterocycles. This reaction was enabled by the combined use of a 3-methylpyridine ligand and pentafluorobenzoic acid additive. A range of heterocyclic products with different substituents could be prepared in moderate to good yields via this methodology. Several transformations, including a scaled-up preparation of product 2 a, were also carried out showing the good applicability of our methodology.

Abstract
Two kinds of ortho- and meta-oxazoline substituted NHC–gold(i) complexes have been synthesized. These gold complexes could react with Selectfluor to give ionic chelated NHC–oxazoline gold(i) complexes which could smoothly catalyze the cycloaddition/oxidation reaction of enynones with alkene.

Abstract
A simple, general route to the 1,2-dihydronaphtho[2,1-b]furans and 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans substituted at C-2 by an acyl or aryl group, starting from phenolic Mannich bases and pyridinium ylides, has been developed. The mechanism of the reaction is believed to involve the formation of the o-quinone methide intermediate, Michael-type addition of the ylide to the o-quinone methide, followed by intramolecular nucleophilic substitution.

Abstract
Alkenes are desirable and highly versatile starting materials for organic transformations, and well-known substrates for palladium catalysis. Typically, these reactions result in the formation of a new alkene product via β-hydride elimination. In contrast to this scenario, our laboratory has been involved in the development of alkene hydro- and difunctionalization reactions, where β-hydride elimination can be controlled. We report herein the development of an asymmetric palladium-catalyzed hydroarylation, which yields diarylmethine products in up to 75% ee. Interestingly, a linear free energy relationship is observed between the steric bulk of the ligand within a certain range and the enantiomeric excess of the reaction.

Abstract
In traditional Wacker processes, Pd(II) becomes reduced to Pd(0) after C-O bond formation and β-H elimination and must be reoxidized to the electrophilic Pd(II) state via a stoichiometric oxidant like benzoquinone, CuCl(2), or O(2). We report herein a Pt-catalyzed Wacker-type process that regenerates the electrophilic Pt(2+) state by H(-) abstraction from a [Pt]-H using an oxocarbenium ion generated from an acetal or ketal under acidic conditions.
