Abstract
In the field of a heterogeneous industrial catalysis process, the encapsulated structure plays a crucial role in preventing active sites from leaching during the reaction; however, related studies on the strategy to fabricate encapsulated catalysts under control remain rare. Herein, we develop an amino-assisted strategy to construct a highly stable catalyst with core-shell copper nanoparticles (NPs), namely, Cu@NC (NC represents the nitrogen-doped carbon), presenting not only excellent activity but also high durability on the hydrogenation of quinolines even in the large-scale tests, which is very vital in practical application. In contrast, in the absence of the amino group, the Cu NPs were dispersed out of the carbon surface to form Cu/NC, leading to readily lose activity in the recycling tests due to the leaching occurred during the catalytic process. This work offers a promising method to fabricate a stable catalyst to enhance durability in heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
A heterocycle is an important structural scaffold of many organic compounds found in pharmaceuticals, materials, agrochemicals, and biological processes. Azacycles are one of the most common motifs of a heterocycle and have a variety of applications, including in pharmaceuticals. Therefore, azacycles have received significant attention from scientists and a variety of methods of synthesizing azacycles have been developed because their efficient synthesis plays a vital role in the production of many useful compounds. In this review, we summarize recent approaches to preparing azacycles via different methods as well as describe plausible reaction mechanisms.

Abstract
Construction of the hydroquinoline skeleton of symbioimine by Cu-mediated N-alkenylation or O-alkenylation of an allyl aminoalcohol, in which either chemoselectivity could lead to the target compound, was investigated. O-alkenylation followed by Claisen rearrangement was favored with high selectivity under a ligand-free condition. Subsequent intramolecular condensation furnished the hydroquinoline skeleton of symbioimine.

Abstract
Monometallic (Pd, Ru or Rh) and bimetallic (Pd0.5–Ru0.5) alloy NPs catalysts were examined for the hydrogenation of quinoline. Pd–Ru alloy catalyst showed superior catalytic activity to the traditional Rh catalyst. The characterization of Pd0.5–Ru0.5 catalysts, HAADF-EDX mapping and XPS analysis suggested that the alloy state of PdRu catalysts remained unchanged in the recovered catalyst. Furthermore, the catalyst was highly selective for the hydrogenation of different arenes. Recyclable Pd0.5Ru0.5–PVP catalyst showed higher activity than monometallic Pd or Ru catalyst for the hydrogenation of quinoline. Furthermore, Pd0.5Ru0.5–PVP was able to hydrogenate different arenes.![]()

Abstract
An indole synthesis via ring expansion of benzocyclobutenone oxime sulfonate was developed. Utility of the indole synthesis was demonstrated by the total synthesis of (+)-CC-1065. The middle and right segments were constructed by a sequential ring expansion of the symmetrical benzo-bis-cyclobutenone. The left segment was also constructed via ring expansion of the methyl-substituted benzocyclobutenone oxime sulfonates. After condensation of these three segments, the dienone cyclopropane structure was formed to complete the total synthesis.

Abstract
A simple and effective one-pot, two-step intramolecular aryl C-N and C-O bond forming process for the preparation of a wide range of benzo-fused heterocyclic scaffolds using iron and copper catalysis is described. Activated aryl rings were subjected to a highly regioselective, iron(III) triflimide-catalyzed iodination, followed by a copper(I)-catalyzed intramolecular N- or O-arylation step leading to indolines, dihydrobenzofurans, and six-membered analogues. The general applicability and functional group tolerance of this method were exemplified by the total synthesis of the neolignan natural product, (+)-obtusafuran. DFT calculations using Fukui functions were also performed, providing a molecular orbital rationale for the highly regioselective arene iodination process.

Abstract
A concise, eight-step total synthesis of (-)-indolactam V, a nanomolar agonist of protein kinase C, is reported. The synthesis relies upon an efficient copper-catalyzed amino acid arylation to establish the indole C4-nitrogen bond. This cross-coupling method is applicable to a range of hydrophobic amino acids, providing a platform for further diversification of indolactam alkaloid scaffolds and studies on their potent biological activity.

Abstract
N-(4-[(18)F]-Fluoropyridin-2-yl)-N-{2-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazin-1-yl]ethyl}-carboxamides were prepared by labeling their 4-nitropyridin-2-yl precursors through nitro substitution by the (18)F anion. In vitro and in vivo tests showed that the cyclohexanecarboxamide derivative is a reversible, selective and high affinity 5-HT1A receptor antagonist (IC50 = 0.29 nM, ki = 0.18 nM) with high brain uptake, slow brain clearance and stability to defluorination when compared with conventional standards. This PET radioligand is a promising candidate for an improved in vivo quantification of 5-HT1A receptors in neuropsychiatric disorders.

Abstract
Evolution of the synthetic strategy that culminated in the first total syntheses of the structurally unique plectosphaeroic acids B (2) and C (3) is described. The successful enantioselective route to (+)-2 and (+)-3 proceeds in 6 and 11 steps from the known hexahydro-2H-pyrazinopyrrolo[2,3-b]indole-1,4-dione 39, which in turn is available in enantiomerically pure form by chemical synthesis. The central challenge in this synthesis endeavor was uniting the hexahydro-2H-pyrazinopyrrolo[2,3-b]indole-1,4-dione and cinnabarinic acid fragments of these marine alkaloids. Critical for achieving this successful C-N bond formation was the use of an iodocinnabarinic acid diester in which the amino group was masked with two Boc substituents, a Cu(I) carboxylate complex and the weak base KOAc. The highly congested C-N bond generated in this coupling, in conjunction with the delicate nature of the densely functionalized coupling partners, provided a striking testament to the power of modern copper-mediated amination methods. Two approaches, one stereoselective, for introducing the methylthio substituents of (+)-plectosphaeroic acid B were developed. The epitrisulfide ring of (+)-plectosphaeroic acid C was formed by ring expansion of an epidisulfide precursor.
