Abstract
Thiourea is an inexpensive and user friendly sulfur reagent that acts as a sulfur source. A simple and efficient protocol has been developed to access thioethers by reacting indoles with p-quinone methides using thiourea as the sulfur source. In our experiments, the reaction apparently proceeded through an S-(3-indolyl)isothiuronium iodide intermediate and subsequent generation of indolethiol that attacked the 1,6 position of p-quinone methides to give desired thioethers in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
A one-pot difluoromethylthiolation of alkyl electrophiles with thiourea and diethyl bromodifluoromethylphosphonate is described. The transition-metal-free approach, readily available reagents, and mild conditions provide a practical way for the synthesis of difluoromethyl thioethers. By changing the "H" source to the most commonly used "D" sources CD3OD and D2O, this strategy enables efficient synthesis of SCF2D-substituted molecules in good yields with high levels of D incorporation.

Abstract
Methylthiodeoxynivalenol (MTD), a novel derivative of the trichothecene mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON), was prepared by applying a reliable procedure for the formal Michael addition of methanethiol to the conjugated double bond of DON. Structure elucidation revealed the preferred formation of the hemiketal form of MTD by intramolecular cyclisation between C8 and C15. Computational investigations showed a negative total reaction energy for the hemiketalisation step and its decrease in comparison with theoretical model compounds. Therefore, this structural behaviour seems to be a general characteristic of thia-Michael adducts of type B trichothecenes. MTD was shown to be less inhibitory for a reticulocyte lysate based in vitro translation system than the parent compound DON, which supports the hypothesis that trichothecenes are detoxified through thia-adduct formation during xenobiotic metabolism.

Abstract
Five sulfur-containing flavor compounds were synthesized for the first time by the reaction of 4-ethyloctanoyl chloride with sulfur-containing alcohols or mercaptans. The synthesized compounds are 3-(methylthio)propyl 4-ethyloctanoate, 2-methyl-3-tetrahydro-furanthiol 4-ethyloctanoate, 4-methyl-5-thiazoleethanol 4-ethyloctanoate, 2-furan-methanethiol 4-ethyloctanoate and 2-methyl-3-furanthiol 4-ethyloctanoate. These five synthetic sulfur-containing ester flavor compounds all have meaty odor and might be used in foods if approved for this purpose in the future.
