Abstract
The Strecker reaction is a three-component condensation of an aldehyde, an amine, and hydrogen cyanide, delivering an α-amino carbonitrile. Despite extensive investigations, the possibility to use amides instead of amines as one of the three condensation partners has been largely neglected. Nonetheless, the N-acylated α-aminocarbonitriles that are obtained in this way are of direct interest for drug discovery, because they make up a well-known class of mechanism-based inhibitors of serine- and cysteine-type hydrolases. In response, we have thoroughly explored the corresponding variant of the Strecker reaction, focusing on catalyst use, solvent, reaction time, and cyanide source. Optimized parameters were combined in a sequential one-pot protocol for which the scope was found to be compatible with library synthesis applications. Product yields ranged from 7 to 90%, and conditions were found to be mild and tolerant to a wide range of functional groups, including moieties that are typically present in druglike molecules.

Abstract
α-Amido sulfones can be directly used as N-acylimine or N-acyliminium ion precursors in several synthetic processes aimed at the preparation of nitrogen containing compounds. This review collects the most relevant and practical utilizations of α-amido sulfones appeared in the literature after 2005.

Abstract
This review article summarizes the applications of bismuth(III) compounds in organic synthesis since 2002. Although there are an increasing number of reports on applications of bismuth(III) salts in polymerization reactions, and their importance is acknowledged, they are not included in this review. This review is largely organized by the reaction type although some reactions can clearly be placed in multiple sections. While every effort has been made to include all relevant reports in this field, any omission is inadvertent and we apologize in advance for the same (358 references).

Abstract
The FeCl(3) x 6H(2)O-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts arylation reactions of N-sulfonyl aldimines or sulfonamidesulfones with electron-rich arenes and heteroarenes, which lead to the formation of triarylmethanes and bis-heteroarylarylmethanes, are developed. The use of mild reaction conditions, low catalytic loading, high yield, and single step synthesis are the advantages of the present procedure.
