Abstract
DMOA-derived spiromeroterpenoids are a group of natural products with complex structures and varied biological activities. Recently, we reported the first enantioselective total synthesis of five spiromeroterpenoids based on a fragment coupling strategy. This full account describes details of a strategy evolution that culminated in successful syntheses of the targeted natural products. Although our alkylative dearomatization methodology was unable to deliver the desired spirocyclic products in our first-generation approach, our second-generation approach based on oxidative [3 + 2] cycloaddition produced the asnovolin H core along with several complex dimers. Challenges with the dearomatization approach finally led us to develop a third generation, non-dearomatization approach based on a fragment coupling strategy to construct the conserved, sterically hindered bis-neopentyl linkage of the spiromeroterpenoids through 1,2-addition. To enable scalable access of the natural products, a refined, multigram-scale synthesis of the coupling partners was developed. A series of stereoselective transformations were developed through judicious choice of reagents and conditions. Finally, modular spirocycle construction logic was demonstrated through the synthesis of a small library of spiromeroterpenoid analogues.

Abstract
We present here a review of the photochemical and electrochemical applications of multi-site proton-coupled electron transfer (MS-PCET) in organic synthesis. MS-PCETs are redox mechanisms in which both an electron and a proton are exchanged together, often in a concerted elementary step. As such, MS-PCET can function as a non-classical mechanism for homolytic bond activation, providing opportunities to generate synthetically useful free radical intermediates directly from a wide variety of common organic functional groups. We present an introduction to MS-PCET and a practitioner's guide to reaction design, with an emphasis on the unique energetic and selectivity features that are characteristic of this reaction class. We then present chapters on oxidative N-H, O-H, S-H, and C-H bond homolysis methods, for the generation of the corresponding neutral radical species. Then, chapters for reductive PCET activations involving carbonyl, imine, other X═Y π-systems, and heteroarenes, where neutral ketyl, α-amino, and heteroarene-derived radicals can be generated. Finally, we present chapters on the applications of MS-PCET in asymmetric catalysis and in materials and device applications. Within each chapter, we subdivide by the functional group undergoing homolysis, and thereafter by the type of transformation being promoted. Methods published prior to the end of December 2020 are presented.

Abstract
Phenols are well-known precursors of cyclohexadienones, which have widespread applications in organic synthesis. In contrast, their hydroxypyridine counterparts have not been explored yet. An unprecedented oxidative dearomatization of a 3-hydroxypyridine involving an unexpected deformylation step is reported. The chemical reactivity of the resulting unreported azacyclohexadiene-type compound was also explored.

Abstract
For decades, oxidative dearomatization has been employed as a key step in the synthesis of complex molecules. Challenges in controlling the chemo- and site-selectivity of this transformation have sparked the development of a variety of specialized oxidants; however, these result in stoichiometric amounts of organic byproducts. Herein, we describe a photocatalytic method for oxidative dearomatization using molecular oxygen as the stoichiometric oxidant. This provides environmentally benign entry to highly substituted o-quinols, reactive intermediates which can be elaborated to a number of natural product families.

Abstract
A new hypothetic biosynthesis of the tricyclic spiroketal core of ascospiroketals A and B is proposed, which guided the development of a novel synthetic strategy for the asymmetric total synthesis of ent-ascospiroketals A and B. The synthesis features an efficient ring contraction rearrangement of the 10-membered lactone to the tricyclic spiroketal cis-fused γ-lactone core, which served as the common intermediate for the synthesis of both ent-ascospiroketals A and B through the Stille coupling reaction at the final step. In addition, seven diastereomers were prepared to conclusively confirm the structure of ent-ascospiroketal B.

Abstract
This account details the synthesis of two scyphostatin analogues exhibiting a reactive polar epoxycyclohexenone core and various amide side chains outfitted for late-stage chemical derivatization into the desirable lipophilic tails. Our efforts highlight a key ipso-dearomatization process and provide new insights regarding the incompatibility and orthogonal reactivity of scyphostatin's functional groups. We further showcase the utility of resorcinol derived 2,5-cyclohexadienones as synthetic platforms capable of participating in selective chemical reactivity, and we further demonstrate their potential for rapid elaboration into complex structural motifs.
