Abstract
A benzene ring was formed to connect a carbonyl group of various methyl ketones with a π-conjugated group through a p-phenylene linker. Methyl ketones and streptocyanines were used as the C1 and C5 sources, respectively, in the (5+1) annulation, which could form donor-π-acceptor molecules.

Abstract
In the past few decades, research on the construction of donor-bridge-acceptor linked systems capable of efficient photoinduced charge separation has fundamentally contributed to the fields of artificial photosynthesis and solar energy conversion. Specifically, the above systems are often fabricated by using carbon-based nanomaterials such as fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, and graphenes, offering limitless possibilities of tuning their optical and electronic properties. Accordingly, since understanding the structure-photodynamics relationships of π-aromatic donor-bridge-nanocarbon linked systems is crucial for extracting the full potential of nanocarbon materials, this review summarizes recent research on their photophysical properties featuring nanocarbon materials as electron acceptors. In particular, we highlight the electronic coupling effects on the photodynamics of donor-bridge-nanocarbon acceptor linked systems, together with the effects of donor dimerization. On a basis of their time-resolved spectroscopic data, the photodynamics of donor-bridge-nanocarbon acceptor linked systems is shown to be substantially influenced by the formation and decay of an exciplex state, i.e., an excited-state consisting of a π-molecular donor and a nanocarbon acceptor with partial charge-transfer character. Such basic information is essential for realizing future application of carbon-based nanomaterials in optoelectronic and energy conversion devices.

Abstract
Fluorophores that absorb and emit in the red spectral region (600-700 nm) are of great interest in photochemistry and photomedicine. Eight new target chlorins (and 19 new chlorins altogether)-analogues of chlorophyll-of different polarities have been designed and synthesized for various applications; seven of the chlorins are equipped with a bioconjugatable tether. Hydrophobic or amphiphilic chlorins in a non-polar organic solvent (toluene), polar organic solvent (DMF), and aqueous or aqueous micellar media show a sharp emission band in the red region and modest fluorescence quantum yield (Φf = 0.2-0.3). A Poisson analysis implies most micelles are empty and few contain >1 chlorin. Water-soluble chlorins each bearing three PEG (oligoethyleneglycol) groups exhibit narrow emission bands (full-width-at-half maximum <25 nm). The lifetime of the lowest singlet excited state and the corresponding yields and rate constants for depopulation pathways (fluorescence, intersystem crossing, internal conversion) are generally little affected by the PEG groups or dissolution in aqueous or organic media. A set of chlorin-avidin conjugates revealed a 2-fold increase in Φf with increased average chlorin/avidin ratio (2.3-12). In summary, the chlorins of various polarities described herein are well suited as red-emitting fluorophores for applications in aqueous or organic media.

Abstract
This review focuses on the postfunctionalization of porphyrins and related compounds through catalytic and stoichiometric organometallic methodologies. The employment of organometallic reactions has become common in porphyrin synthesis. Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions are now standard techniques for constructing carbon-carbon bonds in porphyrin synthesis. In addition, iridium- or palladium-catalyzed direct C-H functionalization of porphyrins is emerging as an efficient way to install various substituents onto porphyrins. Furthermore, the copper-mediated Huisgen cycloaddition reaction has become a frequent strategy to incorporate porphyrin units into functional molecules. The use of these organometallic techniques, along with the traditional porphyrin synthesis, now allows chemists to construct a wide range of highly elaborated and complex porphyrin architectures.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis of guanidinium bis-porphyrin tweezers 1 and fullerene carboxylate 3, their assembly into a novel supramolecular 1@3 electron donor-acceptor hybrid, and its characterization. In solution, the binding constant affording 1@3 is exceptionally high. 1@3, which features a highly confined topography, builds up from a combination of guanidinium-carboxylate hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking/charge-transfer motifs. The latter is governed by interactions between the electron-donating porphyrin and the electron-accepting fullerene. Importantly, positive cooperativity between the applied binding motifs is corroborated by a number of experimental techniques, such as NMR, absorption, fluorescence, etc. In addition, transient absorption experiments shed light onto electron-transfer processes taking place in the ground state and upon photoexcitation. In fact, porphyrin excitation powers an electron transfer to the fullerene yielding charge separated state lifetimes in the nanosecond regime.

Abstract
A general and efficient protocol has been developed to synthesise a series of novel porphyrin dimers with versatile aryl linkers via a simultaneous condensation-cyclisation-oxidation reaction of diverse bis(dipyrromethanes) with dipyrromethane-dicarbinol catalysed by indium(iii) chloride at room temperature in an efficient CH2Cl2 and CH3CN mixed-solvent. The reaction yields increased to 21–26 % based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) and isolated yields were 13–19 % due to the use of the proper mixed-solvent. This mild method is applicable to the preparation of linker-tunable porphyrin dimers with targeted functionalities and could potentially be extended to the single-step construction of longer functionalised multiporphyrin arrays.

Abstract
In the current work, we have documented the use of two complementary supramolecular motifs, namely multipoint hydrogen bonding and metal complexation, as a means to control the step-by-step assembly of a panchromatically absorbing and highly versatile solar energy conversion system. On one hand, two different perylenediimides (1a/1b) have been integrated together with a metalloporphyrin (2) by means of the Hamilton receptor/cyanuric acid hydrogen bonding motif into energy transduction systems 1a•2 or 1b•2. Steady-state and time-resolved measurements corroborated that upon selective photoexcitation of the perylenediimides (1a/1b), an energy transfer evolved from the singlet excited state of the perylenediimides (1a/1b) to that of the metalloporphyrin (2). On the other hand, fullerene (3) and metalloporphyrin (2) form the electron donor-acceptor system 2•3 via axial complexation. Photophysical measurements confirm that an electron transfer prevails from the singlet excited state of 2 to the electron-accepting 3. The correspondingly formed radical ion pair state decays with a lifetime of 1.0 ± 0.1 ns. As a complement to the aforementioned, the energy transduction features of 1a•2 were combined with the electron donor-acceptor characteristics of 2•3 to afford 1a•2•3. To this end, time-resolved measurements reveal that the initially occurring energy-transfer interaction (53 ± 3 ps) between 1a/1b and 2 is followed by an electron transfer (12 ± 1 ps) from 2 to 3. From multiwavelength analyses, the lifetime of the radical ion pair state in 1a•2•3-as a product of a cascade of light-induced energy and electron transfer-was derived as 3.8 ± 0.2 ns.

Abstract
The title compound, [Ag(C72H84N4O4)], crystallizes with the AgII cation on a centre of symmetry. The macrocyclic 24-membered ring core is planar with a mean deviation of 0.0311 (15) Å and the four-coordinate AgII cation fits into its center, at 2.0814 (19) and 2.0872 (19) Å, from the surrounding pyrrole-N atoms, in agreement with what is found in related compounds. The p-heptyloxyphenyl groups are rotated 75.51 (5) and 84.45 (8)° with respect to the porphyrin mean plane, due to steric hindrance with the pyrrole-H atoms of the macrocycle.
