Abstract
A representative number of decalin and hydrindane derivatives 2a–l were prepared in 11–91% yield by means of a cascade reaction of cyclohexanone/cyclopentanone enolates and methyl acrylate through a Michael–Michael ring closure (MIMIRC) process. The relative stereochemistry of the four stereogenic centers formed in all products was determined by analyzing the vicinal coupling constants from the 1H NMR and X-ray crystallography. Such a stereochemical outcome was corroborated by conformational analysis supported by DFT calculations and simulating the 1H NMR spectra of representative products. All products showed the same relative stereochemistry at C-1 and C-8a, while at C-3 and bridgehead carbon C-4a, configurational changes were observed. The present results provide some insights about the scope and limitations of the triple cascade reaction between cycloalkanone enolates with methyl acrylate. This synthetic protocol is still a simple and very practical alternative to generate decalin and hydrindane derivatives with great structural diversity.

Stereoselective synthesis of new rac-quercitols containing hydroxymethyl groups as glucosidase inhibitors. Bioorg Med Chem Lett 2018; 28:2555-2560. Abstract
Stereoselective and efficient synthesis of hydroxymethyl-substituted rac-quercitols (13-15) was achieved, starting from cis-furan (Kobayashi, 2008) with photooxygenation reaction, which is readily available by the reduction of cis-phtalic anhydride. α- and β-Glucosidase enzyme activity of the target molecules was evaluated and good inhibitor activity was seen. One- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography were utilized in the structure characterization of products.

Abstract
In this perspective, we summarize new synthetic approaches for the construction of various polycyclic compounds involving ring-closing metathesis as a key step. In this regard, we used ring-closing metathesis in combination with other popular reactions like Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, Claisen rearrangement, Fischer indolization, Grignard addition, Diels-Alder reaction, and [2+2] cycloaddition reaction etc. To this end, a variety of functional molecules such as α-amino acids, cyclophanes, heterocycles, propellanes, spirocycles, and macrocycles have been prepared. The strategies developed and the molecules prepared here play a key role in designing new materials and also act as lead compounds in drug design. The strategies and tactics developed here are useful to design polycycles, macrocycles, and heterocycles of diverse ring systems.

Abstract
We describe diverse approaches to various dienes and their utilization in the Diels-Alder reaction to produce a variety of polycycles. The dienes covered here are prepared by simple alkylation reaction or via the Claisen rearrangement or by enyne metathesis of alkyne or enyne building blocks. Here, we have also included the Diels-Alder chemistry of dendralenes, a higher analog of cross-conjugated dienes. The present article is inclusive of o-xylylene derivatives that are generated in situ starting with benzosultine or benzosulfone derivatives. The Diels-Alder reaction of these dienes with various dienophiles gave diverse polycyclic systems and biologically important targets.

Abstract
The identity of the major product of Ru-catalysed alkene metathesis of two polyene substrates has been determined using density functional theory (DFT) NMR prediction, a1H–1H Total Correlated Spectroscopy (TOCSY) NMR experiment and ultimately by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The substrates were designed as those that would potentially allow expedient access to thetrans-decalin skeleton of the natural product (−)-euonyminol, but the product was found to be a bis-cyclopentenyl-β-cyanohydrin [1-(1-hydroxycyclopent-3-en-1-yl)cyclopent-3-ene-1-carbonitrile, C11H13NO] rather than thetrans-2,3,6,7-dehydrodecalin-β-cyanohydrin.
