Abstract
Novel isoxazole and pyrazole analogs based on natural biphenyl-neolignan honokiol were synthesized and evaluated for their inhibitory activities against nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-activated BV-2 microglial cells. The isoxazole skeleton was constructed via nitrile oxide cycloaddition from oxime 3 and pyrazole was generated by condensation of 4-chromone and alkylhydrazine. Among the analogs, 13b and 14a showed stronger inhibitory activities with IC50 values of 8.9 and 1.2 µM, respectively, than honokiol.

Abstract
The Suzuki-Miyaura reaction (SMR), involving the coupling of an organoboron reagent and an organic halide or pseudo-halide in the presence of a palladium or nickel catalyst and a base, has arguably become one of most utilized tools for the construction of a C-C bond. This review intends to be general account of all types of catalytic systems, new coupling partners and applications, including the literature between September 2010 and December 2014.

Abstract
A synthesis of the core ring structure of the fargenin/fargenone family of natural products is presented. The general strategy is based upon biosynthetic speculation and exploits a cascade reaction, which transforms a spirocyclic dienone into the core ring system via a deprotonation-oxy-Michael-Wittig olefination sequence. This study represents the first synthesis work towards this family of natural products.

Abstract
Honokiol possesses many pharmacological activities including anti-cancer properties. Here in, we designed and synthesized honokiol analogs that block major honokiol metabolic pathway which may enhance their effectiveness. We studied their cytotoxicity in human cancer cells and evaluated possible mechanism of cell cycle arrest. Two analogs, namely 2 and 4, showed much higher growth inhibitory activity in A549 human lung cancer cells and significant increase of cell population in the G0-G1 phase. Further elucidation of the inhibition mechanism on cell cycle showed that analogs 2 and 4 inhibit both CDK1 and cyclin B1 protien levels in A549 cells.

Abstract
A series of novel 4-O-methylhonokiol analogs were synthesized in light of revealing structure-activity relationship for inhibitory effect of COX-2 enzyme. The key strategy of the molecular design was oriented towards modification of the potential metabolic soft spots (e.g., phenol and olefin) or by altering the polar surface area via incorporating heterocycles such as isoxazole and triazole. Most of all exhibited the inhibitory effects on COX-2 and PGF(1) production but not macrophage NO production. Especially, aryl carbamates 10 and 11 exhibited more potent inhibitory activity against COX-2 and PGF(1) production.
