Abstract
AbstractPalladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of polyhalogenated heterocycles provide a convenient access to multifold arylated and alkynylated ring systems with a broad spectrum of physical and medicinal properties. Products include thiophenes, selenophenes, pyrroles, indoles, furans, benzofurans, pyrazoles, pyridines, quinolines, pyrimidines, pyrazines, naphthyridines, quinoxalines, and others. The regioselectivity of the coupling reactions is controlled by a combination of electronic and steric parameters. While a number of couplings can be carried out essentially under standard conditions, others require the use of more sophisticated ligands and a thorough optimization of the conditions, such as solvent, temperature, or reaction time. The present Account provides a personalized overview of coupling reactions of polyhalogenated heterocycles.1 Introduction2 Thiophenes3 Selenophenes4 Pyrroles and Indoles5 Furans and Benzofurans6 Pyrazoles7 Pyridines8 Quinolines9 Pyrimidines and Pyrazines10 Naphthyridines and Quinoxalines11 Miscellaneous12 Conclusions

Abstract
Dibrominated bis[1]benzothieno[3,2-b;2',3'-e][1,4]thiazines (BBTT) are efficiently synthesized and applied in Suzuki and Buchwald-Hartwig cross-coupling reactions to give access to 3,9-disubstituted BBTT derivatives with extended π-conjugation and enhanced electronic properties. For instance, 3,9-di(hetero)aryl substituted BBTT derivatives surpass their parent congeners phenothiazines with lower oxidation potentials and pronounced yellow to orange-red fluorescence (Φf ≈ 30-45%). In addition, 3,9-bis(di(hetero)arylamino substituted BBTT possess very high lying HOMO energy (EHOMO = -4.46 to -4.83 eV), a favorable property of hole transport molecules. A representative X-ray structure analysis reveals that the central BBTT core in these extended π-systems is essentially planarized. Upon protonation of a 3,9-bis(di(hetero)arylamino) substituted BBTT, the absorption color shifts from yellow to deep blue with a concomitant loss of the emission. The optical properties of these novel BBTT derivatives can be plausibly rationalized by time-dependent density functional theory (TD(DFT)) calculations and correlation between experimentally determined oxidation potentials and σp parameters as well as between photophysical data and the specific substituent parameter σp- by establishing electronic structure-property relationships.

Abstract
Benzo[b]thiophenes are aromatic heterocyclic compounds containing benzene
and thiophene rings. This class of heterocycles is present in a large number of natural and
non-natural compounds. Benzo[b]thiophene derivatives have a broad range of applications in
medicinal chemistry such as antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant, anti-HIV and antiinflammatory
activities. The use of benzo[b]thiophene derivatives in other fields has also been
reported. Various benzo[b]thiophenes compounds have been employed as organic photoelectric
materials, while several benzo[b]thiophenes have been used as organic semiconductors.
Benzo[b]thiophenes have also been used as building blocks or intermediates for the synthesis
of pharmaceutically important molecules.
:
Due to such a wide range of applicability, the synthesis of benzo[b]thiophene derivatives has
attracted intensive research. Numerous mild and efficient approaches for the synthesis of
benzo[b]thiophenes have been developed over the years. Different catalysts and substrates have been applied for
benzo[b]thiophene synthesis. This review will focus on the studies in the construction of benzo[b]thiophene skeleton,
which date back from 2012.

Abstract
Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of heteroaryl polyhalides with aryl boronates are surveyed. Drawing on data from literature sources as well as bespoke searches of Pfizer's global chemistry RKB and CAS Scifinder® databases, the factors that determine the site-selectivity of these reactions are discussed with a view to rationalising the trends found.

Abstract
Zeolite Y nanosheets with a micro-meso-macroporous structure were synthesized, and applied in the assembly of a Pd catalyst (Pd/NS-Y) for direct vinylation of thiophenes with high activity and selectivity, as compared to Pd(OAc)2, Pd(NO3)2, and Pd(PPh3)4 catalysts. This feature should be assigned to the highly dispersed Pd(δ+) (δ < 2) species in Pd/NS-Y, which are more active than Pd(2+).

Abstract
A protocol has been developed for direct Csp(3)-Csp(2) bond formation at the 4- and 6-positions of dibenzothiophenes using a gold(I) catalyst with terminal alkynes and dibenzothiophene-S-oxides. The sulfoxide acts as a traceless directing group to avoid the need to prefunctionalise at carbon. The iterative use of this protocol is possible and has been employed in the preparation of novel macrocyclic structures. In addition, a cascade process shows how oxyarylations can be combined with other processes resulting in complex, highly efficient transformations.
