Abstract
The rearrangement of cyclopropylketone arylhydrazones generated in situ from arylhydrazine hydrochlorides and ketones leads to formation of tryptamine derivatives. The use of (2-arylcyclopropyl)ethanones in the reactions with model 4-bromophenylhydrazine hydrochloride gives branched tryptamines with aryl groups in the α-position to the amino group, while (2-methylcyclopropyl)ethanone gives a mixture of α- and β-substituted products in a ratio of 1:3. The method was found effective in the synthesis of enantiomerically pure tryptamine. Thus, (R,R)-(2-phenylcyclopropyl)ethanone gives the (S)-α-phenyltryptamine derivative with an enantiomeric excess over 99%.

Abstract
A photocatalytic method has been developed for the efficient synthesis of functionalized benzimidazoles. This protocol involves photocatalytic condensation of o-phenylenediamines with various aldehydes using the Rose Bengal as photocatalyst. The method was found to be general and was successfully employed for accessing pharmaceutically important benzimidazoles by the condensation of aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic aldehydes with o-phenylenediamines, in good-to-excellent yields. Notably, the method was found to be effective for the condensation of less reactive heterocyclic aldehydes with o-phenylenediamines.

Abstract
Benzimidazole derivatives are crucial structural scaffolds found in diverse libraries of biologically active compounds which are therapeutically useful agents in drug discovery and medicinal research. They are structural isosteres of naturally occurring nucleotides, which allows them to interact with the biopolymers of living systems. Hence, there is a need to couple the latest information with the earlier documentations to understand the current status of the benzimidazole nucleus in medicinal chemistry research. This present work unveils the benzimidazole core as a multifunctional nucleus that serves as a resourceful tool of information for synthetic modifications of old existing candidates in order to tackle drug resistance bottlenecks in therapeutic medicine. This manuscript deals with the recent advances in the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives, the widespread biological activities as well as pharmacokinetic reports. These present them as a toolbox for fighting infectious diseases and also make them excellent candidates for future drug design.

Abstract
The cyclopropyliminium and subsequent Grandberg rearrangements of cyclopropylketone hydrozones lead to the formation of tryptamines, which were additionally substituted at either the aromatic ring atoms or the amino group. The products were tested for their cytotoxic properties against HepG2, Jurkat and HEK293 cell lines using MTT assay. The highest activity as well as the highest selectivity was found amongst the compounds derived with one benzyl substituent at the amino group. The flow cytometry technique revealed cell-type specificity in terms of the mechanism of viability inhibition. Thus, the compounds were found to induce mainly apoptosis in HEK293 and HepG2 cells, while Jurkat cells displayed late apoptotic and necrotic responses. The apoptosis pathway is most likely to include mitochondrial damage.
