Abstract
The first example of the direct halosulfenylation of benzo[b]furans with commercially available disulfides and N-halosuccinimides has been achieved, providing an efficient metal-free synthetic pathway to access diverse 3-halo-2-thiobenzo[b]furans in moderate to excellent yields. In particular, a halogen (e.g., bromo or iodo) substituent on the benzo[b]furan ring is amenable for further synthetic elaborations thereby broadening the diversity of the products.

Abstract
A simple, efficient, and mild method for defluorination and functionalization of 3,3,3-trifluoro carbonyl compounds has been developed. In the present method, Cs2CO3 can easily convert α-trifluoromethyl esters, amides, and ketones into β,β-S-, O- and/or N-substituted α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in the presence of N-, O-, and S-nucleophiles with moderate to excellent yields, and furthermore, this transformation with α-trifluoromethyl ester and a series of 2-aminophenols can result in benzooxazoles in good yields.

Abstract
A highly efficient domino protocol has been developed for the synthesis of 6-aryl-4-(methylthio/amine-1-yl)-2-oxo-2H-pyran-3-carbonitriles and 4-aryl-2-(amine-1-yl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphthalene-1-carbonitriles from simple and readily available α-aroylketene dithioacetals, malononitrile, secondary amines, and cyclohexanone. This elegant domino process involved consecutive addition-elimination, intramolecular cyclization, and ring opening and closing sequences. Notably, in situ generated 2-imino-4-(methylthio/amine-1-yl)-6-aryl-2H-pyran-3-carbonitrile plays multiple roles in the construction of various novel polyaromatic hydrocarbons.
