Abstract
After the initial study of different protocols in the synthesis of indeno[2′,1′:5,6]pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines, herein, a new method is presented using cheaper and more accessible starting materials to produce high-efficiency products. In this protocol, the novel nanocatalyst is very effective in the progression of the reaction and increasing the efficiency. This green approach in aqueous media has several advantages as compared with other methods, such as easier work-up, very mild reaction conditions, reusability of the catalyst, and eco-friendliness. The products of this four-component condensation were evaluated using IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectra, and C. H. N. analyses, and the catalyst structure was confirmed by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, TGA and VSM techniques. In this protocol, a novel nanocatalyst was very effective in progression of the reaction and increasing efficiency. This green approach in aqueous media has several advantages compared with the reported methods.![]()

Abstract
In this study, a multicomponent reaction involving carbohydrates, β-dicarbonyl compounds, and malononitrile was disclosed to synthesize a new class of polyhydroxy compounds incorporating pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine, pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine and chromene heterocycles under mild conditions. For the synthesis of this class of compounds, glucose, galactose, arabinose, maltose, and lactose were used as aldehyde component in the reaction with barbituric acid and malononitrile to produce pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives. By use of 1,3-cyclohexanedione instead of barbituric acid, chromene derivatives incorporating carbohydrate moieties were obtained. Also, the four-component condensation reaction between d-glucosamine, aldehyde, malononitrile, and barbituric acid was efficiently provided polyhydroxy-substituted pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives. This new combinatorial approach gave a range of carbohydrate-derived heterocycles in good to excellent yields with high potential biological applications. The antioxidant activities were evaluated using 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) antioxidant measuring system, and the data were expressed as Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity. All of these compounds display significant antioxidant activity. The maximum and minimum antioxidant activities were observed for 4j and 6b, respectively. Our results indicated encouraging perspectives for the improvement and usage of this type of synthetic compounds, indicating significant levels of antioxidant activity.

A series of novel spiro[naphthalene-2,5′-pyrimidine]-4-carbonitriles were synthesized using 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid, aldehydes and cyclohexylidene malononitrile in presence of DBU. The structures were confirmed by spectral data and X-Ray crystallography.

Abstract
The cyclization reaction of 3-methyleneoxindoles with 2-(3,4-dihydronaphthalen-1(2H)-ylidene)malononitrile in ethanol in the presence of DBU at room temperature afforded functionalized 3′-iminospiro[indoline-3,2′-phenanthrenes] in good yields.

Abstract
A series of 25 new spirocarbocycles were synthesized by a three component reaction that involves few cyclic nucleophiles, vinyl malononitriles and aldehydes with variable substitution patterns. All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity and the compounds showed significant activity. Synthesized compounds 4c, 4i and 6i showed good anticancer activity against A549 cancer cell line. Molecular docking studies indicated that compound 4i had the greatest affinity for DNA gyrase receptor than others and compound 6i had the greatest affinity for anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) receptor. These compounds can be better therapeutic agents for microbial and cancer cell lines.

Abstract
The reactions of vinyl malononitriles with 3-phenacylideneoxindoles in ethanol in the presence of DBU as base resulted in the functionalized spirocyclic oxindoles through the domino Michael addition and intramolecular nucleophilic addition to cyano group. On the other hand, the similar reaction in the presence of piperidine as base afforded the simple Michael addition products in good yields. The stereochemistry of the spirooxindoles was established with (1)H NMR data and single crystal structures.
